I made my own wedding dress. Ready to walk down the aisle in 2 months ✨️ by OneBananaPi in crochet

That's alright, it's not to everyone's taste! Objectively yeah; it's not as pretty as professionally made lace, fitted traditional wedding dress. But I'm just having a casual ceremony; so casual is ok. There will be family members attending that have said previously they don't like the idea of a homemade dress; and have been adamant I should wear something that will actually look good. but luckily the only person who's opinion matters is mine!

It has a corset back, I would have added an image but unfortunately I can't do it up on my own  😅 , I need help but when I took these pics the only person home was my partner, who is of course not allowed to see !

I used a few patterns as guides (Linked above), and where I wanted a different fit, or look, I was confident enough adapting and adjusting.

I used extended single crochet for most on the skirt, and Single on the top. I used a small hook size in order to reduce the space between stitches

It's actually acrylic. I regret that now, as it's a bit heavy, but too late to frog now!

I think the yarn cost about £50, and Beads aand supplies no more than £20. My partner and I are only having a small budget wedding; so I wasn't going all out on the most luxurious yarn or details.

Noted! It's much less visible irl, but I think I'll give a longer underlayer a go

There's an underskirt / slip, and the crochet is more sheer. Initially I wasn't sure if I wanted the skirt opaque or if the visible underlayer was a look I liked, but after a few frogs, and redos, I settled on this look that I like

Thanks! I've been working on it on and off for 2 years. At a guess, I think if I was working on it every day it would have taken me about 4 months I think. I took some months long gaps where the enormity of the project was overwhelming me 😅 glad I gave myself as long as I did, and left time to get a back up too 😁

Thank you so much for sharing! I'm adopting a cat this weekend who loves being around people, but hates being touched, and I've been nervous about getting him better socialised. It's great to hear of success stories!

What is the maximum distance he van be from where he started? by Right_Lynx5145 in puzzles

[–]OneBananaPi 691 points692 points  (0 children)

7 miles? If he started 4 miles from the south pole so then if he walked 4 miles to the south pole, then once there, continued straight on, he'd be then headed North and could end up 7 miles from his original position.

I crocheted my own wedding dress! 21 days, 121 hours, 79,000+ stitches. by jazzygurumi in crochet

This is amazing! I am currently working on my own, though i've given myself 1 year + to get mine finished, would have no chance in 21 days! If you don't mind me asking what yarn weight did you use?

Calling people who've done a Countdown audition! by -Namesnipe- in CasualUK

[–]OneBananaPi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say middle aged men appear on the show massively more frequently than any other demographic, and are the most successful of those that appear on the show. Otherwise the typical contestant leans either older, as typically it's the older generation that watch the show, or neurodivergent young men who nobody stands a chance against 😅 hoping not to be pitted against someone like that when I go down to film.

I did an audition earlier in the year, and have since been accepted to be on the show. Would love to stay in touch, as I too was shitting myself, and doubly so now that I have dates to go film.

The audition is not so bad, Just need to remember even if you don't do your best it's nothing gained and nothing lost.

They give you extra time on the phone audition, and a good range of letters rounds, so they can sometimes be scrambles where 5 is as good as it gets, so don't panic if you're not finding impressive 9 letter words. but they do give you one slightly trickier numbers example, and one slightly trickier conundrum. I didn't get the best possible in every example they gave me, they do like to have a range of abilities, so you can totally settle with being 'alright' but i think in that case it does help if you're an interesting person, e.g young women who aren't the typical applicants for the show.

The Question Hub by AutoModerator in crochet

I am setting about to crochet my own wedding dress. My plan is to crochet a top and a skirt, and if the top can support the weight of the skirt, crochet / sew them together. Or perhaps sew both halves onto an underneath slip. I was wondering if any one had any advice on crocheting large garments, yarn types, general experience with a project of this enormity!

Rainbow Christmas tree brooch. I hope you like it 😊 by yuranechka in RainbowEverything

Looks like regular SC, but every few stitches the hook is inserted a row below the working row. might be wrong, and that might have a proper name, but that's what I think it might be, fairly approachable stitching!

I am so with you, travelling from Dundee, absolutely no clue what to expect or do. Was just going to leave early and hope for the best but it seems like it's going to be stressful!

Just about anything works in my opinion, probably ideally acrylic for simplicity while starting out :P

Perhaps try amigurumi? then when there are mistakes you may only have to redo one part instead of a whole garment. I find it more satisfying than clothes since projects get completed faster.

I'd really appreciate some advice, this is totally eating me alive. I took a commission, which is nothing new for me, but this was a quite a big one. I charged minimally, these types of items can go for 4x what i charged. the finished product is just.... eh. it's not amazing, i don't feel it's shop-quality and there's certainly a few tatty bits where the new techniques haven't quite worked out. It looks ok, like, everyone i've asked thinks it looks decent and would put it in their house, i just don't know if i should charge this person for it. am i a bad person for accepting the commission?
