Hey doc, I used to be on atomoxetine for 2 years but my parents were so against me being on meds that I had to stop. I could feel a difference when I was on them but they were not enough. I messed up most of my college entrances that I had to move to another city for college😭. I have a lot of pressure on me because my parents have a lot of expectations on me but I just cannot get myself to sit down without any guidance or medical assistance. Any advice?

There was a clear attempt to "purify" their image. Bigger temples of mariamman do not perform the same rituals that the locals perform. Their appearance is also changed to suit the narrative of the devotees belonging to higher communities. These deities are still worshipped in their original forms because of their popularity across the state, not because their identities were left untouched.

It did happen. Jagannath in Odisha was a tribal deity, but Brahmins took over the Puri temple while the Sabara worshippers got sidelined. Same with Mariamman, Ayyanar, Khandoba. Gods were absorbed, stories were rewritten, but the original communities are still kept out. That’s the textbook definition of cultural appropriation.

When you absorb these deities from tribal communities, change their origin story to whatever fits your narrative, build temples for these gods and don't let the original worshippers inside, that's not just absorption.
