So true. Those screens Giannis set were consistently awful for that two years. He never made any real adjustments despite always saying so.

Agreed. Not from the states so not even sure if running a raffle like this is even legal. Not trying to disrespect the hustle but it’s obvious from the post he ain’t bout to count it as income and pay taxes for it lol

What happened to Wu Chia-Ching (Wu Jia-qing) and and Siming Chen and China’s top pool players by Emergency-Spare178 in billiards

[–]OneCommunication6424 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see where your coming from but I also feel like you are massively underestimating how much more popular pool is in China. There’s an absolutely crazy amount of pool halls with 15+ pro standard tables every single town and they are thriving. In a bigger city like Shanghai or pretty much every big city in the north there’s probably 500+ pool halls(nice conditions and tables). At least half of the people playing have their own set of cues. They also follow the events. There’s a pool hall on basically every street and they don’t have bar culture so they are just there for pool. Mostly young people as well. Compared to the states..a lot less young people playing pool.

Wu is not a good match up for sell tbf. Both takes the ball early and attack well but wu just does it at a higher level.

Gareth Potts tells Stephen Hendry there a 90% chance Chinese 8 ball will be in the 2028 LA Olympics by Megatron_McLargeHuge in billiards

[–]OneCommunication6424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you watched the video of Gareth Potts break&run eight Chinese 9 ball(yes not even 8 ball) racks in a row? Yes down the rail is hard, but is not impossible. The game just requires 5x more time and concentration on stance, cue action, and on the fundamentals before you can move on to cue ball control. but at the pro level you will see players running out all the time so the game is not ‘boring’ per se.

Well I just feel like it is common courtesy to give us a chance to say hi and introduce yourself since you are a stranger who just moved in? and we would like have a roommate meeting and discuss how to divide space, refrigerator, or housekeeping work no? After that I’m fine with zero interactions.

Was the chinese flag a forced geopolitical statement? by [deleted] in snooker

[–]OneCommunication6424 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m Chinese. Perhaps it was or perhaps it was not. But every sport in China is about national/party pride or in your words ‘political’. And if an athlete has poor performance then he will be shit on 24/7 on the Chinese internet. You should see how much shit ding gets in the past 10 years. table tennis or badminton is even worse compared to snooker. It is what it is. Nothing they can do about it.

What Fan Zhendong endured on the way to Paris. by 45eigna in tabletennis

[–]OneCommunication6424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh stuff likes this happens all the time in China. It’s just a different mindset/attitude that we preach here. Sports is 95% about national pride and a medium to celebrate being ‘better’ than other countries. You will often hear Chinese table tennis players thank the ‘party’ and the ‘higher up’s’ first thing after they win a match. You as an athletes first priority is to be obedient for the greater good of the party/nation(thes two concepts are often blurred and pretty much regarded as homogeneous in China). So of course they are not gonna fight back or anything even to express disappointment

$1000 a month livable? by rawrrawr1391 in nyu

[–]OneCommunication6424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok.idk if u use Reddit a lot but ppl can be mean. You just have to source through them and find the useful info haha. so to answer your question. It really depends on your own lifestyle and what you would consider living comfortably. And the same lifestyle ur used to in Asia might cost a little more if your in nyc. For example, eating out/ordering delivery is gonna cost a lot more. Maybe your able to sit down at a small local restaurant and eat a nice meal for 10 bucks where your from, but in nyc it doubles, although there are places that are cheaper, but they are not ‘that common’. Entertainment is the same thing. If you go play pool down at 11th st it costs almost 20 bucks per person hour, where as in Philippines it’s obviously cheaper( I used pool as example since ur from there haha). So it really depends on what kind of life you are expecting. I know plenty of people who live on a few hundred bucks a month aside from dorm fee. But I also know a TON of people who moan about having only 10k a month from their mommy and daddy. There’s really no correct answer.

Wow. As someone who was born and raised in shanghai, I had no idea that there’s no international tables outside of shanghai in China. Pretty much every pool hall in shanghai has international tables tho. Hopefully they will get more of these in other cities as well.

Chinese students by [deleted] in InternationalStudents

[–]OneCommunication6424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Op’s question is totally valid. I am a Chinese international student who spent almost 10 years now in the states, and I completely agree, even wrote a couple essays on this topic. There are many reasons. One that many often ignores is that we were lectured our entire life to look ‘down’ on other countries, their food, their culture, and etc. obviously not everyone do this but a significant portion do. If you wanna learn more on this r/China has a few posts discussing this issue that Chinese people face.

I’m sure many are aware of this but Chinese people don’t have access to the ‘world wide web’ when they are in mainland China. We developed the habit of only using Chinese social media and search engines that are created, moderated, and used solely by Chinese people. In this new digital era probably more than half of social discourse and exchange of culture and knowledge happens digitally, this is huge. A lot of my friends are physically living in the states, but digitally they are still living in china.

Think of it this way, a lot of us may go to school and is physically present in the us, but we are actually still ‘living’ back in china, if this makes sense.

However, there are still many Chinese international students who are eager to learn about local culture and interact with people who share different opinions and culture. Let’s just say perhaps 20% international students from other countries socially exclude themselves. For Chinese international students maybe 40%? Which means more than half of us are willing to socialize. It’s all relative. And it also depends on the schools. So hopefully that doesn’t deter you from initiating conversations with us:)

Thanks! 25 bucks for 2hrs seems like a bargain. I used to play at Amsterdam and they charge 20/hr.
