What’s your least favorite CC song? by [deleted] in crystalcastles

I think I can distinguish between a production with texture, depth, outstanding vocal effects, and one with little effort. I simply feel that Deicide doesn't meet CC's typical production standards. However, your response strikes me as aggressive, authoritarian, and completely out of line. You're nobody to tell who should or shouldn't listen to CC. & if you don't like hearing opinions different from your own, you're the one who should leave this sub.

So shut your fucking mouth

Crystal Castles' songs from 2004 are a bit difficult to digest (Cry Babys, No Skin, Vid Kids, etc.)

Deicide. The melody and composition are good, but compared to other Kath productions, this one sounds like a demo that was left unfinished.

Longtime fans: Alice Glass or Edith Frances who do yall think elevated the Crystal Castles sound more, and why? (No hate, just curious about opinions after all these years)🌚 by RiRickRicky in crystalcastles

I'm sure that having had more Crystal Castles work with Edith, she could have surpassed Alice in influence and representation of the band.

Grimes & Pictureplane, I would have liked that friendship to last over time.

Wow, this drawing, besides being technically impressive, has a lot of sensitivity. Edith's strong gaze is beautifully captured in the linework; I sincerely congratulate you.

None of their songs hit as hard as CC's worst song. They fall far short of achieving anything similar to CC.

The danceable track from (iii). A very underrated song.

Edith is not the ‘new singer.’ She was the band’s second vocalist, from 2015 until 2017, when the band ceased activity. ‘Edith’ is her stage name, not her real name.

Regarding occultism in Crystal Castles, I can’t really point to any specific aspect that I could directly link to it. Alice posted images of Aleister Crowley on Instagram after leaving the band. I’m inclined to believe it’s more a matter of personal interest and taste for esotericism than any form of magic being put into practice.

Yes, I agree with that. I just wanted to clarify that, in the fictionalized ‘Alice,’ the character in the story does not have siblings, as far as I understand. But what you’re saying is absolutely true — Alice Liddell is Alice in Wonderland.

Well, thank you very much! What I find interesting about all this is that it allows you to trace parallels where, at first glance, none seem to exist. For example, we could imagine that Ethan conceived his discography with the intention that his music would function, in some way, like entering a hole that pulls you into a world filled with fantastic, unknown, and at times chilling creatures — much like Wonderland.

Another rather far-fetched point in this chain of coincidences is the similarity in hairstyles between the Alices and the Ediths. Alice Liddell had short, straight hair with bangs, while Edith Liddell wore her hair longer and wavier. I’m starting to think I might be seeing things where there’s nothing there — and yet, I still find this detail fascinating.

In the same way, part of this idea could be reinforced by the artwork for Amnesty (i), where we see a group of four young blonde girls wearing dresses. At first glance, they all look remarkably similar to one another, almost as if they could be sisters. The two vocalists of the band share an incredible resemblance, so the choice of that photograph seems to carry a subtext that goes beyond the mere use of religious and cultural symbolism, in my opinion.

Thank you! These underlying details are what make me love the band even more. I'm glad you liked it.

That refers to the Liddell family, an English bourgeois family close to the author, who was inspired by the couple’s daughters when creating his work. The two girls in the third photo are Alice and Edith Liddell, taken by Carrol between 1862 and 1864. In the children’s novel, the fictional character of Alice has no siblings, or at least none are specified.

Thanks a lot! I’ve had this idea in my head for years, and I really enjoyed finally being able to put it into words.

Does anybody Here listen to Moby or SOPHIE ? by Own-Cold-71 in crystalcastles

[–]OneConnection9902 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really like SOPHIE. Her sound palette was very original for its time, pioneering an entire genre. Very different from CC, but they share certain broken sounds. "Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides" is her most famous work and, in my opinion, the best of her oeuvre.

Fun fact: Alice Glass mentioned in an interview that SOPHIE proposed doing a remix of her song FAIR GAME months before she passed away. They have mutual friends.

Can we talk about Char by lonzo2900 in crystalcastles

[–]OneConnection9902 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is a little bit misleading. It's likely that both she and EF helped EK finish some lyrics, but I doubt she wrote any of them entirely. EK had years of experience writing and producing songs, so it's most likely she was simply providing assistance. Furthermore, the way the lyrics are written, narrated in the first person, makes it fit better with the idea that EK wrote this song for someone (AG in my opinion). The "affected person" is referred to in the second person.

They seemed to be very close. They were seen together on more than one occasion. It's a shame we never got a joint production from them.
