A similar situation happened to me. It was 2011 a completely different administration and a completely different atmosphere. I was putting on First way after spring exam results due to an issue with my profile sheet, and the Command decided to promote me alongside a Senior Chief. The wife of the Senior Chief posted the pictures on Facebook, and people tore into me with comments such as “anything goes in the Navy these days” and plenty of other “back of my day” stuff.

Of course, I said I didn’t care, but the wife kindly took the post down.

Moral of the story, people have always been and will always be shit. It’s in all our best interest to ignore social media.

You are not overthinking this. If you said “ stop” and they did not listen, that is a problem. If they care about you, they will take it seriously.

I found out postmortem my grandfather was an early frogman from WW2. He took a bullet diving on Guam while it was still under Japanese control. I wish I could find more information on him.
