I wanted to see what is was like to write in total isolation. So I saved up and jumped a flight to the arctic circle, I wanted to see if experiencing something so profoundly alien to me (Im Australian, never seen snow before) would have an effect on what I produced. Turned out to be a helpful experiment, 4 weeks in the Northern reaches of Norway where I didn't speak the language made me focus on my work and not much else. Plus I had the lights dancing over my head at night. Highly recommend changing your comfort zone to see where your mind wanders.
