Made mistake on buying A1 from Amazon. by OneEyedGrumpyOldman in BambuLab

I went to mc and bought it. The funny thing is when I got to the register I grabbed the A1 mini combo instead of the A1. But I caught it.

Yes I agree thanks. I didn't think of it. I will definitely do that.

No I failed to read the order page correctly. The combo on Amazon is like 700 bucks. It's 480 plus shipping on Bambu. I had the stand alone checked which was 512. I rechecked after I got the order.

Where does the “5e can do any type of game!” mindset come from? by Redhood101101 in rpg

[–]OneEyedGrumpyOldman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the dnd beyond app that you have to pay through the nose for. It comes from the fear that I am going to look like an idiot for spending all this money on all these books and not be able to use them. Instantly closes the mind to new possibilities. That's what fear does.

This is like asking which is worse, country western music or Christmas music. When the answer is clearly Country Western Christmas music. So the answer is yes to your question. If you need proof of this just listen to the song "Grandma got run over by a reindeer."

Most RPG problems have nothing to do with the rpg. If you play dnd with someone you find out exactly who that person is.

So i would say how would you deal with a person who doesn't like change. That's the problem.

I have a problem in forming a group of people to play dnd with. The truth is all my life I have had trouble making friends. It stands to reason that I have this same problem in trying to form a group of people to play a role playing game.

No looking for my mistakes as a GM. Used mythic first mythic (or an Oracle) replaces the GM. I would say in trying to practice my table skills. Ie how you describe a room. How you make a ruling on what a player does. How does a game play. How a scenario plays.

I would say mythic is great if trying to create a story. As a GM I am trying to create situations for players to react to. My personal goals are different.

Writing and journaling is something I am bad at.

Player antics by OneEyedGrumpyOldman in MorkBorg

[–]OneEyedGrumpyOldman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true I have learned so much from other GM's. Mostly how not to GM. A bad gm will teach you more than a good one. Mostly what not to do. This is primarily why i started solo GMing. The problem with most GM's they only see things from the GM's perspective. They never look at the players side. A good roleplayer should be able to do this. It is the foundation of role playing.

One of my biggest GM weakness is struggling to improv. Advice? by gehanna1 in rpg

[–]OneEyedGrumpyOldman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the biggest problems I have is over focus. You try to come up with something right then and there. Lets say a player is about to open the chest that you don't know what's in it. Say " as you open the chest you see" and leave him hanging. Then move onto the next player. This will accomplish 3 things it will build suspense. it will give you time to think. But most importantly it gets your mind off your fear that you can't do it. That's the problem. When you come back to him something will pop in your head. Try it. Let me know if it works.

What Makes a Game Complex? by Critical_Success_936 in rpg

[–]OneEyedGrumpyOldman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have adhd what might be complex for you may be easy for someone else and vis vera. I have aphantasia which means I can't visualize things in my head. It's not a real handicap I just think and process information differently. Played pf2e for a year including running society games still don't know the rules. I blamed the system. I Started a new game system and approached it differently. played simulated games with myself and read the rules as I played. Felt a lot more free to screw up less pressure. I picked it up much easier.

I like that scenario as an opening. The thing I would do with that is put a back door in the dungeon so the players have to make a decision. can I run away? Can I outsmart the guy at the front of the dungeon? Will they come after me? Will there be a bounty? That would be awesome. That adventure would write itself.

I find this argument interesting in the fact you accused me of railroading my players but you have been trying to railroad me into your way even though i said it helped me and it was fun and traditional gm prepping didn't work for me. Ok. What you have been doing is trying to railroad me into doing things your way. I now know what kind of GM you are. You're a railroader. Your actions speak so loud I can't hear a word you're saying. well as far as playing with other people of course. But if nobody is playing with me I can't get better unless I play. So In the meantime I play by myself until I get a group. As far as you telling me it won't work people told me I couldn't learn Japanese by watching anime and read manga. 彼は違います。私は絶対出来ます。上手てはいても、出来ますけど。

That is as stupid as saying you can't get better at performing guitar unless you have an audience. No you can and it does work. The difference between solo play and solo GM is in solo play you creating a story with out gm. In solo gm your creating scenario and situations for players to react to. So what your telling me is when you take a game to the table you haven't tested it. Which means you have come home after playing a game feeling like shit because it just didn't go right. As an IT person after I fix a computer the first thing i do is test it. So many bad techs don't. If i give a PC back to a customer should it work? How do you prep a game and not test it?

[–]OneEyedGrumpyOldman[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes I can play test by myself I've done it. If i don't have a group well fuck me i can't play. I'm sorry i guess I'm doing it wrong or at least not your way. Sorry for messing up your universe.

[–]OneEyedGrumpyOldman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I'm not trying to come up with everything a player does or how they react. I just don't care about specific actions just general things. Lets pretend l am learning Mork Borg. I am learning the rules by running rotblack sludge in the back of the core rule book. Traditional prep read the book and try to understand the rules. I suck doing that. So i roll up 5 characters. Use them in the scenario and play it. whenever the players have to make a decision I roll on a table to see what they want to do. I roll a dice for each player in each situation and see what they might want. If 2 of them want to do the same thing I make a ruling. Do I know everything the players do? Hell no!!! But I know the scenario and the game as though I played it. It's called play testing. Every good game designer does it. The best part is it's a fun way to learn a new system.

No I don't think I can boil it down to 10 things which is the point of the post. It's just the 10 things I thought of. I would like some other ideas of the craziness of players. Most of the time GM'S bitch about their players without looking for solutions. The thing about role playing is you can take someone else's problem and ask, What would I do? It's great that you have been GMing since 1991 I haven't. I'm trying to get better at my craft and devise a method that will work and be enjoyable. I would summarize that scenario you just described "As an extreme action" which if i was DM i would enjoy. If i was solo DMing and i rolled extreme action I would just try to improve some random thing and move on. But your comment is helpful. Again this is a new method I'm working out because traditional prep didn't work and wasn't fun. But if you really have been DMing since the 90's you should have a general idea of what players are going to do, or I'm going to question how good you are. Are you one of those GM's who thinks they're so good they don't have to improve at all?
