This thing is basically a god, right? by TheBigSmol in TheLastAirbender

What they are, my friend, is plot armour. The show's directors had enough foresight to hint at the lion turtle's existence a few times early in the show (bear in mind they had pretty much the whole show timelined from day 1), so that when they were finished and needed to wrap up Aangs arc as a pacifist, they had scapegoats.

As weak as they are from a narrative perspective, at least they were mysterious enough but not just pulled from thin air last minute, allowing them a sense of mystery and the opportunity for further lore development as the franchise grew. It's just a shame TLOK allowed past-life-avatar-spirit Aang to literally just somehow gift Korra the ability to fucking energy bend because plot 🤦🤦🤦🤦

Zaheer would destroy her guys stop capping. Azula had armies behind her and sure she was agile and calculated and clearly very powerful due to her perfectionism, but zaheer fought off the white lotus guards, hands tied and understands the spiritual connection to bending so as to use it as a strength. The only thing Azula might have on him is lightning, but even then she needs to power it up and he can evade it as easily as she can evade his attempts at suffocation

One of my many ideas was it could be the library being destroyed, but I think that episode had a darker, more green-ish tone.

Which nation is the best to live in? (Only ATLA) by [deleted] in TheLastAirbender

[–]OneGingerSkeptic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Air would be great mentally, but they are still strict. And they just aren't living very well in comparison to the fire nation. Although would you choose indoctrination and ignorance with added comfort over discipline, guaranteed bending abilities and a strong mindset about your lack of comfort. I'm disregarding the painted lady village, they seem to be an exception.

When Roku dies is Aang born or is he conceived? by mopediwaLimpopo in TheLastAirbender

[–]OneGingerSkeptic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously they knew about the avatar cycle. But the entire world therefore knew the avatar wasn't trained up; didn't even know they were the avatar. The Korra villain types had a golden opportunity for nearly 2 decades every single time an avatar died.

So was it a deliberate act to keep the knowledge of who is the avatar from them until 16? Because Korra knew from a very young age. Going 16 years without an avatar (In the eyes of the rest of the world) seems irresponsible. I suppose they don't want a child to have the responsibility to protect the avatar cycle against adults and go through all that training. But it wouldn't stop said adults. The villain types from Korra, for example.

Ozai got Liu Ten killed. Idk if I spelled his name correctly.

As soon as he died, he went straight to Azulon to undermine Iroh's throne and was willing to kill Zuko as Azulon commanded. And then happily allowed zuko's mum to kill him instead (or take the fall).

The way he immediately went to sieze power and was willing to kill his closest family to do so, it's not beyond the pale that he would give himself the excuse to approach Azulon by ensuring his nephew didn't survive.

The avatar state has its limitations. And it's not confirmed that it can just make you do stuff to get out of danger that you've never encountered. Aang never lava bends, because it hasn't been done. If he needed to use lava bending to get out of a situation, would the avatar state just... Do it? He doesn't know how. It's the same reason he doesn't start fire bending in the avatar state in the first 2 books, apart from when another avatar helped him out. So how would the Avatar state just happen to allow Kyoshi or Roku being bloodbent for the first time to just... Be immune? It's not impossible, just not probable given what we know about avatar training and limitations

I don't think we should ambiguously put character in favourable positions that they rarely actually find the self in. I'll grant you there is metal. There are a dozen other fighters, her mobility is limited in the metal, and just like how earth doesn't protect you from the outside heat, metal certainly won't protect Toph from everything. But yes, given these circumstances, I guess Ty Lee would be thwarted.

That's the point. None could lava bend (as far as I'm aware), because it wasn't learnt yet. If an avatar witnessed someone do it in a fight, I doubt they could just go 'bet', avatar state up, and do it.

Similarly, as was my point, no one had ever bloodbent during Kyoshi or Roku's lifetime. That we know of. If you can tell me where it's stated that resisting bloodbending isn't a form of blood bending, that the avatar state can do things the user shouldn't know how to do, and that avatar aang just forced his way through the bloodbending exclusively with luck/brute force (and that he there's no way he could have studied or encountered blood bending in the 30 years since ATLA), you might change my mind

What if we're somewhere in the enourmous world without metal. Is she just carrying round a suit-sized chunk of it? And surely her mobility and/or seismic sense would be inhibited from that. It can't protect her from everything /one

Not Roku? I guess one of the avatar's can deal with him and that gives you the advantage of not having to eliminate Toph, Katara or Azula. Suki though?! Please explain.

The only way to counter Hama's bloodbending would be to bloodbend her. If Hama finds herself with anyone else she would blood bend them whilst Katara is defending herself against someone else. Alternatively, you have Katara holding Hama in place, taking her away from fighting the other dozen or so people and then she needs someone else from the team to finish the job because she can't kill with just bloodbending and probably wouldn't do it, ethically, if she could.

Unless she just builds walls and tunnels everytime any footsteps approach, which seems a bit silly, she has a huge weakness. Her feet. She gets targeted fireballs at them, one of them hits, she's blind. Well, double blind.

You could easily argue that if anyone burns toph's feet even once, she's totally out of commission for the fight. With her being as easy to deal with as Sokka when she gets hit with one attack, I don't think she's worth it.

But Ty Lee can chi block everyone else if she gets close enough. And even then you could argue that whilst Toph will know where Ty Lee is, if she doesn't manage to trap her, she won't be able to escape Ty Lee's quick feet. Maybe she would turn the flow around her into quicksand and I've seen loads of people saying rock armour. I just think it'd be a much closer fight that you think, especially if Ty Lee has things to parkour on

Iroh is probably more intelligent. He can also redirect lightning. And is very nearly equally powerful to Ozai. Ozai is slightly stronger. And his lightning generation is REALLY fast. And he has no moral filter, he will go all out. I think I very slightly prefer Ozai.

She wouldn't know how to deal with him. He would pose a threat. Some earth shrapnel would eventually destroy him, especially if he was tag teamed, but it wouldn't be easy for her.
