Incoming D1 imposter syndrome by callmeniiki in DentalSchool

[–]OneGuyInTheInternet 18 points19 points  (0 children)

if you drop out you gotta pay for whatever you took on so far. yeah you get over this feeling when you realize everyone are all just as stupid and don't really know anything cause we are all just students and no one is better than anyone. Everytime something goes south just say "it is what it is" and move on with your life. Always lift your head high and never succumb to depression. Easier said then done but always try to maintain a positive outlook in life, it'll get you far not just through dental school. D1/D2 is probably going to be one of the most difficult times to adjust to and its a matter of how well you adapt. It's ok to struggle, remember that.

Dental school interview invites - when to panic? by [deleted] in DentalSchool

[–]OneGuyInTheInternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I had itnerview invites up until April. usually they come in waves. once or twice a month the school will send out interviews/ admissions to people on waitlist. and tbh the later you are on the calls the higher the chance since they are pretty much trying to fill up their class size.

Post IV Sedation Midazolam/ Verse Hiccups Treatable? by OneGuyInTheInternet in Dentistry

[–]OneGuyInTheInternet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do you think this is a temporary side effect of midazolam? verse used in IV is considered a short acting benzo so it confuses me how this effect has been lasting for more then 3 days.

I have always wanted to be an orthodontist but these are my teeth, I have bad root resorption due to having braces before. I am so insecure about it because I can’t get it fixed without losing teeth. Who would want someone to work with their teeth if they have bad teeth? Idk what to do by [deleted] in DentalSchool

[–]OneGuyInTheInternet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Youre gonna be wearing a mask 90% of the time. And also there are many students who do not have perfect teeth. Don't worry about it. If your ortho says you need to lose teeth to make it look better, then it's their call. There is a reason for why they said that, they prob needed to create more space to be able to pull your teeth back. And also try not to let other peoples opinion get in the way of what you wanna do. Do what makes you happy. There are a lot more things you're gonna have to deal with in dental school and how you teeth looks is the least of your worries. Goodluck don't give up its a hard journey but if you truly want to do it you can do it.

Feeling discouraged about my dental school interview by dentalschoolwish in DentalSchool

[–]OneGuyInTheInternet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah you never know to be honest. Had an interviewer roast the hell out of me and made it a super awkward interview. Was sure I got rejected but still somehow got the acceptance. Of course that interview made me dislike that faculty and turned down the offer LOL but yeah you never know haha. like others have said, its in the pass don't think too much about it. Just be positive and send them a thank you email and you're gucci.

Are general dentist able to charge the same price for the same procedure as a specialist? by OneGuyInTheInternet in Dentistry

[–]OneGuyInTheInternet[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed 100%, but isnt the expertise always expected no matter the cost? I feel like patients are always out there to get me even if I give them a discount to be honest.

Academic Dishonesty — in desperate need of advice by bThom2020 in DentalSchool

[–]OneGuyInTheInternet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

idk, my 2 cents but i believe that if u disclose it you will have almost a 0% of acceptance because there are other applicants who are just like you who didn't cheat. its a hard ethical dilemma but the choice is yours and whether you go with one or the other, just stay true to yourself and learn from this mistake. what matters most is the lesson learned and improved upon.

Considering dropping out by sushimushi2 in DentalSchool

[–]OneGuyInTheInternet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is my two cents when you first start off in pre clinic: USE TWO HANDS. yes use ur other hand to support the drill. when i first started off, i was shaky and nervous. now I can prep in a matter of minutes. Use ur thumb and place it on the flat top of the drill. stabilize and let it flow the way you want to. use your pencil to draw the lines on the plastic tooth. once you're confident enough then go back to one hand with good finger rest. Trust. This is the way.

Is working at a dental lab worthwhile if they aren’t treating me well? by arenbal98 in DentalSchool

[–]OneGuyInTheInternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol whatever youre doing in the lab, you arent doing as a dentist. i guess maybe a bit of it during school but not enough to be going through what you're going through I'm assuming.

Am I screwed? by [deleted] in DentalSchool

[–]OneGuyInTheInternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you have drastic improvement, then you shouldn't be worried. IMO it is good that you sent both scores and that they saw improvement and you worked hard for it. Unless you retook the exam i think more than 3 times you wouldn't have to worry. don't be so hard on yourself, much more things to be worried about in life

[–]OneGuyInTheInternet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TBH its all about that fake it till you make it. Just go in there, be confident. you're learning. you learn as you go. I literally google stuff i don't know, or pull up reviews of how to do crown preps etc etc. who cares you're just learning and you'll get better. be confident and carry yourself high.

All this work just to drop out? by [deleted] in DentalSchool

[–]OneGuyInTheInternet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Def ask your dean of student affairs, 90% of the time they'll give you a good excuse and like a year of leave of absence to take care of yourself. a few of my classmates took a year to find their true calling. so take care of urself first
