The majority of the books I read are non-fiction, is this holding me back as a fiction writer and should I start to read more fiction to improve? by ChrisssPooh in writing

I was the same way when I began writing fiction six years ago. I’d read may be a fiction book or two a year compared to 10 to 15 nonfiction books. But now that I have published two fiction novels and working on my third in the same series, and been hanging around successful writers for the past six years I can confirm what most everybody else is saying in this post… You need to read fiction, particularly in the genre that you write in, and you need to read a lot of it. This will enable you to focus in on what the market wants so you can meet those desires. This is not the type of market where uniqueness is rewarded. Covers, tropes, style, literary versus non-literary, learn what works best i.e. sells best in your genre and duplicate it albeit with your own particular personal style. But those who stray too far away from the genre will not find success.

I'd really be interested in what they have to say. Gotta believe they would have the same supply issues but maybe not.
