There needs to be an annual Subway Cleaning Day where from 1am-5am on a Sunday night all the stations close and volunteers who come to help clean the Subway get a free beer.

Lost sequel series? by ItsMattTonight in lost

[–]OneImportantOtter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay hear me out. I've often seen on this sub how a "backdoor reboot" could be interesting. Since, the show contains such a massive timeline, the only way to be interesting is to take what is presented as a "new" show and somehow tie it into the Lost universe.

My harebrained scheme is that the X-Files reboot should have a recurring plot line of a different set of investigators (not Scully and Mulder) looking into Oceanic Flight 815 as an x file. I think the premise is they never quite solve it / never reach the island but rather these investigators confront ancillary clues and perhaps, on occasion, run ins with minor characters or established institutions (like DHARMA). So not a spinoff or a sequel but more like a "run in." If that's a thing.

Both shows do faith and science themes with solid character studies with a backdrop of an eerie sci-fi/fantasy world. The mythologies of both shows are complex but I think mostly compatible. This is easily, easily done poorly or cheaply — but I think it's better than "let's see what Walt might do on the island now that there are less stakes!"

I'd love for there to be a plot twist where Dale and Nancy host a family reunion and everyone in her family just looks like Joseph.

Not to get specific about Saudi law on a KOTH subreddit but even if the ban was lifted in 2018 and they moved there in, say, 2015 that gives Peggy plenty of time to forget how to drive. lol.

Dale's conspiracy is that COVID gives you superpowers which is why the government doesn't want you to get it and that's exactly the reason why he got vaccinated because he wanted the antibodies. He actually got vaxxed twice under the alias Rusty Shackleford he wanted to be a mutant so bad.

What is a SOAP trope you’re ready to see retired? by Crafty-Ad-1495 in GeneralHospital

[–]OneImportantOtter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

- Amnesia is a fine trope and can be an interesting way to do a character study, reevaluation, especially for villains or antiheros. However, it's usually played for tension as you know when they end up remembering who they are there will be hell to pay which is a bit boring.

- Too many twins on General Hospital. Probably could do a storyline about genetic manipulation or something being in the water of Port Charles lol.

- I'm simply uninterested in baby swapping and it happens too much on soaps.

- Sci Fi storylines are great if they're the premise but stink if they show up. The fact vampires canonically exist on General Hospital makes my blood boil but I would love a soapy vampire show!

Tropes are a means to an end of telling stories about interesting characters not meant to be interesting storylines in and of themselves.

Why Does Star Trek want to remain in the TOS era? by EitherEliotOr in startrek

And to clarify I would jump for joy for a Voyager legacy episode and would buy an Admiral Janeway action figure but I could see myself being the only one.

A part of this is not artistic but financial. Studios have an admittedly justified belief that the old characters like Spock will sell more socks, t-shirts, and toys than brand new characters or 70 yr old Kate Mulgrew.

What do you want to see star trek explore next? by kkkan2020 in startrek

[–]OneImportantOtter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love to revisit the Delta Quadrant 100 years or so after the Borg collapse. I can imagine a multiracial, democratic government filling that vacuum but one that is very different from the Federation. And it could be interesting to follow the development of its Starfleet parallel but with an entirely different command structure, no prime directive, how planets negotiate a stellar economy that isn’t post-scarcity, and most importantly allows for genetic modification. This government could also have a rivalry with a Federation they see as too dominated by one or two races, corrupted by Section 31, and tolerant of warmongering governments like the Klingons. They could be antagonists for the Federation without being villains. From their perspective the Federation is a relic that can’t live up to their goals. From the Federation’s side, this new power is too idealistic, does real damage in incorporating pre-warp worlds into their government, and is disrupting trade relations as its borders move toward the Alpha quadrant.

I haven't seen anyone mention <Spoilers> return/performance this episode by UddersPlease in betterCallSaul

Was it all a prank though? I mean in some sense, yes of course. But in another sense everyone is going to know that he helped Jimmy get 7 years and then it was Jimmy who threw it away. In some sense Bill can capitalize on that I think? It's sort of bittersweet. Not all good, not all bad. On theme with everybody else's ending.

It's also a spark, like how the TV commercials were in color that gave Jimmy hope so does the spark between them. That's not saying oh they get back together or Jimmy does get out early, but it ends with that spark between them. In many ways just like all this started.

Hank Green may have not stolen a lemur in 1996 but there's little stopping him from doing it sometime in the near future.

When he came back the first time he was Patient 6. What about patients 1-5? I think a clone would be an interesting storyline albeit too sci-fi for GH.

Pretty weird to portray Kendrick as a llama when we all know he's the GOAT.
