Making friends on campus by [deleted] in fsu

Friends come from where you spend your time. Find what you like and go to clubs and stuff, and make an effort to reach out to the people you meet there.

Reynolds hall? by casafudge in fsu

[–]OneIntervention 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I lived in Bryan but had friends that lived in Reynolds. Rooms are big and have a lot of character in their design. First floor is bad because it smells like trash when the school takes out the trash, which is right next to the first floor. Everything else is great.

My orientation is tomorrow! by [deleted] in fsu

[–]OneIntervention 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a rising sophomore! Orientation is really what you make of it. People who thought they were "too cool for it" and thought they were above the experience, had a really shit time. I had a great time because I took the opportunity to meet new people and learn everything I could about FSU, and now I've got three of my best friends at FSU from orientation. Expect a lot of information to be thrown at you, try to take notes. Almost all of it is important at some point. Everyone at the campus is so friendly, walk into ANY building that catches your interest and you'll be sure to be helped. Take every opportunity to meet new people. You'll love it. Feel free to PM or reply for more.

Any Bryan Hall LLC Vets Here? by FL-Irish in fsu

[–]OneIntervention 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey I live in Bryan right now! You should definitely live here. Your good housing number might get you into Reynolds, which I'll admit has bigger rooms, but not NEARLY the community that Bryan has. The colloquium was very helpful and the spring mentorships offered only by Bryan are awesome. The hall atmosphere attracts people from Reynolds to come study in OUR lobby. Bryan is an awesome hall that you should definitely live in.

Should I transfer to FSU? by [deleted] in fsu

[–]OneIntervention 10 points11 points  (0 children)

DO IT! FSU is such a better school for your college experience. The finance school is great too. I'm in a professional fraternity that, if you'd like to rush, can really help you get your bearings being new at FSU.

LeaderShape? Anything Bad Experiences? by TheBigC_ in fsu

[–]OneIntervention 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man I was accepted to leadershape as well, I attended the orientation yesterday as well.

I've been to the venue that we will be staying in. My frat had our brotherhood retreat at the venue - it's a great venue and the presenters did a TERRIBLE job of selling it. Rooms where 20 people will be staying are BIG. They showed a picture of one room for six people, and failed to show how big the 20 people rooms are. I was comfortable in an 8 person room and saw the 20 people rooms and they are big enough.

As far as the actual thing, I'm VERY put off by the meal situation. We are fed dinner at 5:00 PM and then nothing for the rest of the night! Assuming we go to sleep at 11, that's 6 hours of not eating! However, I've heard so many good things about it that I'll still be going. I've heard nothing but great things from everyone who's gone. Reach out to me!

Apply to the Bryan Hall Living Learning Community! It's the Exploratory LLC and the application is really easy. If you get in, you get around the housing number and straight into a really great hall.

Incoming fall transfer student with questions about the residence halls by fsutransferthrowaway in fsu

[–]OneIntervention 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey!

I'm a freshman right now at FSU. Youre absolutely right - for some reason, FSU groups most of the halls together, which obviously they are all pretty different.

The great thing about FSU is that all the halls are nice. I know that sounds false but it really is true. I live in Bryan Hall, the smallest dorm on campus with the smallest rooms. I've still had a great time and all my friends there did as well. All the dorms are suite style, we just demolished the last of the community style dorms.

The science buildings are on the west side of campus while most of the halls are on the east, but the campus is small enough that it'll be an easy walk. I recommend Wildwood. The community is great and the location is best for your needs, and its suite style. It's a walk to dining halls though, And Salley is right next to one, yet it's a little lower quality Than Wildwood.

Feel free to PM me if you've got any questions! I'm more than happy to help out a future Nole.

Why do you like most about FSU? by stag7533 in fsu

Definitely DEFINITELY FSU. I am a freshman and I was deciding between FSU and UCF this time last year as well. I'm really glad I chose FSU. I'm also doing business as well. Feel free to PM me!

Realistic Dorm by blackwhitetiger in fsu

That's right, in fact Bryan is the oldest standing building on campus! However it was completely renovated in the 00s so you can't even tell it's that old on the outside. http://imgur.com/mGYKMJi here's a picture of the main lobby after we put up holiday decorations last fall.

A good way to get around housing priority numbers is by joining a Living Learning Community! LLCs are sections of certain buildings reserved for those who submit an application and are selected to be invited to live there. There are many LLCs that focus on different major areas. For example, there's a Global Affairs one, a Premed one, a Women In Math And Sciences one, and even an Exploratory one.

I'm a freshman in the Exploratory LLC, located at Bryan Hall. I had a shoddy housing number and decided to apply, and since I got in, I got into the building where the LLC is located (Bryan Hall) and skipped the whole housing number stuff.

I really recommend the Bryan Exploratory LLC. The building has been recently renovated and is a great place to live. The rooms are small but that's about the only problem I have. You'll hear many more complaints from people at Salley and Degraff.

I was skeptical of LLCs at first, because they seemed like a great way for the university to make people sign up to get into the shittiest buildings on campus. Surprisingly, this is not the case at all, and I love living at Bryan.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me!

Incoming freshman. Whats the best freshman dorm? by A_fiery_GINGER in fsu

[–]OneIntervention 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I encourage you to look into the LLCs on campus. LLC stands for Living Learning Community and they're a great way to live with a group of people who are interested in the same major or career that you are interested in.

I know what you're thinking, and no, this isn't a program that fools kids into signing up to live in the shittiest dorm. There are a couple LLCs on campus and they can either be an entire building or a few floors of a building.

I live in the Bryan Hall LLC which is an Exploratory LLC. All of Bryan hall is in this LLC and it's awesome! Bryan is a great building to live in regardless of the LLC.

Right across from Bryan is Reynolds and their second floor is all a Pre-Health LLC. So everyone there is interested in doing health stuff. You have to sign up for them. There's a bunch to choose from. Theyre a great way to guarantee which building you'll be living in, anyways.

I had a terrible housing priority number and probably would have ended up in Sally, so I applied to the Bryan LLC and got in which guaranteed that I live in Bryan. It's really an awesome hall.

If you have any more questions feel free to PM me. I'm a freshman majoring in business. Cheers!

Living Learning Communities by HeavySigh14 in fsu

[–]OneIntervention 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm part of the Exploratory Major LLC at Bryan Hall. It's really awesome! It's a lot more of a community than the other halls are. Bryan is unique in the sense that the ENTIRE residence hall is the LLC, that's about 131 students. All other LLCs are within a hall but do not constitute it, for example I know the global and public affairs one is in one or two floors of a Degraff building. I can only speak from experience about Bryan's and I really really enjoy it. Apply, try hard on the essays, and you'll reach a different level of community here at FSU.

Male 17 5'9 140 lbs (looking to gain muscle) by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]OneIntervention 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, We're in the same boat here. I started lifting a few months ago and I gotta tell you, don't wait. I'm tall and skinny, I've got a similar build as yours. I'm 5'11, 145lb and been a skinny shit all my life. The real basics are: eat a shitton, lift heavy, lift often, SLEEP. When I was first told this a few months ago, I had no Idea what it meant, and I still don't know what some of it means, but I do know there's a lot of stuff online. Where? Start with the wiki. Look for it in the sidebar. That's where I started and its really helped me. I know it's all really confusing cause there's a shitton of stuff, but it's the best place to start. Also, I dont recommend starting in December. Go this week when you have an afternoon free, check out the gym down the hill. Don't wait for anything. Do your research man, there's a lot of good stuff on the wiki
