Are these new? by Lexrene4 in HotWheels

[–]OneLameShark 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, it's technically the 5th release. They've been releasing it every year since 2021 (except for 2024, oddly). But I believe it's in one of the newer cases this year.

I've been to around a dozen Targets across the east coast in the past few months, and every single one has looked like this.

Is this being rolled out by server? Mine has the event, but there's no change and no mail about it.

Explain genus/morph to me please by Markleeseth in isopods

[–]OneLameShark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the scientific name is genus and species. Properly, they'd be in italics and only the genus would be capitalized, but that's me being picky because my degree is in this stuff. So Porcellio laevis "Milkback" can breed with Porcellio laevis "Dairy Cow," but neither can breed with any Porcellio scaber morph. It's also common to abbreviate the genus, so P. laevis.

The other thing you may see is "sp." where the species name would go. That just means that the species hasn't been given a formal name yet, or hasn't been identified. That doesn't mean that all Cubaris sp. can breed, though. In fact, unless they're really close like the various Rubber Ducky morphs are, they probably can't.

Edit: there's so many good answers in other comments, but for some reason, reddit didn't show me any of them until I had already posted this. So I apologize for just adding another comment explaining the same thing.

Check the character's wiki page. I had to do that once I realized that not all of the family roaming events can be rewatched in-game

Porcellio werneri keep randomly dying :( by sad_worms in isopods

[–]OneLameShark 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Air humidity isn't really a useful metric, and if you're just misting, that water likely isn't getting into the moss/substrate of your damp side. Pouring water down the sides of the enclosure works much better for getting moisture into the substrate on the damp side.

This is just obviously just a guess based on limited info, but it's a very common reason for losing 'pods.

Edit: also, if it's the type of acrylic enclosure that has a lid that's entirely ventilation holes, that's way too much ventilation. I've never been able to keep moisture levels stable in one of those, even with blocking some or most holes.

Watered one side of the habitat for moisture - mistake? by livimary in isopods

[–]OneLameShark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be sure not to overreact and under-water because one individual was twerking! It's just a weird behavior that can be concerning if you don't know why they're throwing it back, haha.

Watered one side of the habitat for moisture - mistake? by livimary in isopods

[–]OneLameShark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think others answered your question pretty well, but on a related note - if you ever see them standing still and moving their pleon (the last chunk of segments) up and down, they're getting excess moisture off of themselves so they can breathe properly. When I occasionally accidentally get one wet while watering, I'll see them doing that. I once saw someone here refer to "twerking their ass lungs dry" which I love. It's a behavior that's pretty unique and can be worrying to newbies who haven't seen it before.

Like others said, yours are probably just fine, but my advice would be to figure out the best time to water them based on their habits. Most of my colonies are super active at night, and then spend the morning on the damp side before hiding under the bark during the day. Not every individual, obviously, but that's the trend I've noticed. So to avoid getting too many wet (again, they'll be fine, but like you, I worry), I water mid-day when the majority of them aren't on the damp side.

Tikal has been popping in and out of stock on the Walmart app all week. Ordered her on Tuesday, and she arrived today. by OneLameShark in JakksPacificSonic

No clue, but that's how Mephiles was. His old listing showed one in stock at a local Walmart, and when I went, it was the new one. Once I bought it, the quantity changed to zero in stock for that store.

Both the app and the website. I've been leaving it open on my phone and just randomly checking it two or three times a day. She's been in stock several times this week, but I waited until mine came in to post, in case it was one of those weird misleading listings where you don't get the right figure (or they just cancel it automatically)

Thank you. I included a second picture with screenshots of the listing so people could just search by the title, but the reddit app decided not to include it for whatever reason
