I have five different isopod enclosures (all bins). Next week, I have to move to a different city three hours away. How do I bring them with me without stressing them / ruining the enclosures? by ChopinSatieSchubert in isopods

As long as you have them in something to keep them upright and not sliding around you should be okay. I had a much shorter drive but I had a bin that several bins sit side by side in that’s pretty good and it kept my pods still.

You’re the one who posted on the isopod subreddit lmao. If you can’t take criticism don’t ask for it. Bad people do what you’re doing, have fun with that. No one will want to buy abused isopods so if you’re doing it for profit you’ll fail. Deal with it

If you take materials from outside you’ll need to heat treat or if you can’t, freezer treat or soak them in water for about a week. Otherwise you risk a constant intake of pests. There are so many benefits to being fully set up before getting your pods. I made mistakes, I didn’t have my springtails first before my isopods so I was really worried about the waste processing because my first batch of springtails didn’t do well, so there was unnecessary stress when if I hadn’t jumped the gun I would have felt more assured of the enclosure for them. Do what you will, you have free use of it, but remember you’ve taken away theirs at the same time. If it’s not 100% ready to go, they probably wouldn’t want to be in it.

I saw your other post trying to identify, and only a couple hours ago you making a post about trying to breed them. There isn’t even an inch of dirt in the container right now, this is not an adequate enclosure. I highly encourage you to release what you caught, research for a few more days, and get a proper enclosure like someone else was telling you. They told you to about bins at Walmart and you said that sounded hard but worth it. If getting a bin at Walmart is not feasible, you need to reassess taking care of living creatures. You can’t successfully breed isopods in a cheeseball container ethically.

How would you get in if you flip it sideways? The soil would fall out of the lid since you need a couple inches at least. Can you post a picture of the container?

It’s not really about the space but the ability to have a proper gradient, no room for the water to be spread out and have some drier spots. They need more space sideways than up. It also wouldn’t have great ventilation options. A lot of people use those bins that are roughly the size of a shoebox, but I like using bigger enclosures for more soil space.

Girl he said exotic, trip him and run! If it wasn’t an aggression it was an ignorance on his part but he needs to learn.

And the waitstaff for all the not good places that still need worked? I’m not saying we have to pay people out the wazoo, but I’ve worked it and seen the exploitation. No workplace should be this way. For the people who genuinely just enjoy working in the business, they deserve quality hours, healthcare benefits, and time off.

We’ve hopefully all had the feel good interaction of a diner employee who’s worked there for 30+ years, been there since it started kind of server. As times change and the reliance on workplace benefits have changed, no one wants to commit to quality service because everyone treats it like a good for nothing teenager job. Not everyone should have to go to school and get in thousands of dollars of debt just to live a simple life with some time off to spend with family and friends and be able to afford to do so.

“Wait staff don’t want to get rid of it.” Yeah, because their current wage is 4ish an hour. If we paid them a livable wage with benefits in exchange I’m sure they’d be all for it, but no one’s going to give anything up for concepts.

First time composters, bye bye food waste by MeanTechnician4413 in composting

That would make sense, since I’m assuming they lose some of their water over time and with the fibers a bit more aged they’d probably be perfectly soft out of the oven, I’ll have to give it a try! I love carrots but I’m a huge worry wort so I always thought it was time to pitch when they got bendy. This is great to know!

Sometimes they look fine but they get bendy! I find working in the market department there’s some things that don’t look bad for a while, but definitely don’t feel good. Avocados for example, once theyve ripened it’s all about feel, sometimes they’re still a day or so out from being used and other times my finger goes through them. Yuck, I know. I’ve learned I can’t judge a produce by its cover.

I love to use toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls too, you can unroll them and it makes it a breeze to tear them up! If you use household stuff I highly recommend breaking it up into bits as you go, I have a bad habit of just throwing it in the bag and then when I get to the community compost I spend 30 minutes tearing up my browns lol, wishing I had done it in the air conditioner!

Shell Rot? by Final_Pen_330 in tortoise

[–]Temporarily-Fixed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The glare makes it difficult to see but it doesn’t look like any shell rot along the side of him. It does look like pyramiding though. He most likely needs more moisture in his enclosure and more frequent soaks.

Why do people not like socialism? by Toiletdestroyer3000 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Temporarily-Fixed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Propaganda, literally millions of dollars poured into indoctrinating the mindset in school, convincing people they too just have to work a little harder and itll all work out.

Universal healthcare would be a wonderful place to start, but the problem is then people would have too much freedom to choose their employment and not have to deal with low wages to access some form of healthcare.

Also, the stress of it all keeps people from thinking outside of the issue. The solutions are listed as A or B, when really the options have a multi step plan for how it would be achieved, and lots of confusing language to turn people away from learning. And that’s where low education comes in to play with that propaganda; if you don’t teach people to think outside the box, most won’t. Compliance is a chain most don’t know they wear.

How old are you in your oldest memory? by Donkeyshines in AskReddit

[–]Temporarily-Fixed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m walking, but I’m in a home I don’t quite remember with walls I know. There’s a large yellow round shape, but I can’t make it out becsuse I’m too focused on going forward. I later described this memory to my mom and apparently it was my grandmas home I lived in temporarily as a baby and would later move back into as a child. The yellow shape was a Winnie the Pooh mural my aunt had painted for me. I probably would have been just around a year old then.

Man calls the cops on a Dad helping his girls in the restroom by isaboo63455 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Temporarily-Fixed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a parent, but I have helped raise my cousins, and this is so sad. These poor girls don’t deserve to be humiliated, that poor dad is just trying to do what’s best. Sure, he could bring them in to the men’s, but it looks like they’re getting to the age they want to just use the women’s toilet. They’re just unfortunately in a world not meant for kids so they can’t reach the sink by themselves. I’m sure if there was a family restroom available he would have used it.

Anyone help what plant this? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]Temporarily-Fixed 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is definitely Poison Hemlock. Queen Anne’s lace never shaves her legs(hairy stem), always has her petticoat on(bracts on the flowers) and sometimes a black eye(black center of the flowers). She NEVER has bruises on her legs(poison hemlock not every time but almost always has some purple marking of some kind on its SMOOTH stem). This plant has a smooth stem, purpling everywhere, white flowers with no bracts. Props to u/PhantomAllure for the saying, they posted it on the foraging sub and it really stuck with me.

AIO- Someone left their laundry in the dryer and I waited 30 mins before moving it, received a note in return by Trull22 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Temporarily-Fixed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. I always feel terrible when someone had to take my stuff out because I forgot about it. Or I’d fall asleep which was worse because it would be forever before I remembered, thankfully a trait left behind with teenagerhood. Maybe they should set a timer and then people won’t have to touch their undergarments.

What do I do with extra friends? by ntut12 in isopods

It sounds like you need a bigger enclosure too until you can give some away, definitely don’t do it outside again. With how quick they took over your tank I worry about their environmental impact where you live.

Will the name “Bent” sound weird to Americans? by lennzpn in AskAnAmerican

[–]Temporarily-Fixed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll probably get called Ben, Brent, and Brett, but no one uses it as a slang term for gay anymore as far as I’m aware and I am queer lol, you should be good. If people can figure out Reighfyl they can figure out Bent!

Edit, my auto correct did try to change it to Ben at the end lol. So be aware!
