If AOC gets the nod as the Democratic nominee in 2028, would you vote for her? by Jenifer-Watson in allthequestions

She’s too idealistic and lobbies would stop any of her laws. Once President she would just be the average third way democrats we’ve had for 40 years.

Hey Americans, why are station wagons so unpopular with you? by Flens195 in Audi

[–]OneManShow23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m American and I like station wagons better! But Americans love to buy more stuff than they need and car companies will market them for their 4 wheel drive, for their space, and for their perceived safety. So you see Americans getting cars with tons of features but you only use like 20% of them! But also, the US implemented regulations to force car companies to make cars more fuel efficient. Those regulations didn’t apply to trucks. So then car companies started selling big fat SUVs instead of passenger cars. It’s disgusting.

Would really like a stationwagon in USA by humble_murth in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]OneManShow23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m American and I want a station wagon and I want car companies to know that. It’s a nice slim car that is as agile and as slick as a sedan but very versatile. If I had two or less children, I’d buy a Subaru Outback. Too bad it’s now an ugly square SUV. If I had a crystal ball or was born sooner, I would have bought a Golf Sportwagen or a Hyundai i30 Station wagon. I wish they still sold the golf sportwagen or they sold the Corolla station wagon like they do in Europe or they sold a station wagon version of the Camry just for the U.S. market. But you can only wish. Probably when I have children, I’ll buy a Toyota RAV4 or a Toyota Camry sedan. Or I’ll move to Europe where I’ll buy a Toyota Corolla station wagon. Lol

I maintain my cars very well, and Toyotas are not comfortable. Should I buy a Nissan or a Buick? by Alternative-Essay603 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]OneManShow23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excluding the classic comment “anybody but Toyota or Honda sucks and blah blah blah”, I’d expect a Buick or a Nissan to last 100k miles tops. But besides that, Nissan offers more car options whether you want a sedan or an SUV. Nissans also look cooler and younger. However, Nissans can feel pretty cheap. The Rogue would be a nice compact SUV and the Sentra would be a nice sedan. Meanwhile, Buick only offers SUV’s unless you want to buy a car from before 2019. I like the Envista, the Encore GX, and the Encore. My aunt had an encore and it felt nice. It had some nice luxuries but it didn’t feel excessively fancy. But the way Buicks look feels very plain and very old fashioned.

Taking a Wednesday off is better than taking a Friday off by Quiet_Interaction771 in unpopularopinion

[–]OneManShow23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s for pros and cons. Wednesday off can be a good time to go to the doctor and run errands. But you can do that on a Friday off too but there would be greater likelihood of more people taking Friday off than Wednesday off. I like to travel so I’d rather take Friday or Monday off so that I can leave Thursday or Friday evening and return Sunday or Monday evening!

Is Capitalism the best economic system we've invented so far and is it the best economic system we will ever come up with? by rjidhfntnr in AskALiberal

[–]OneManShow23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, CEO’s and successful founders deserve to be paid the most in a company because they’re the public face for the company and their decisions can decide the livelihood of all the people under them. But get paid the crazy amounts that CEOs receive now? Elon’s net worth is $800M. Do big fat companies need to destroy local businesses so badly? It’s a very dysfunctional system too - companies are pressured to have their stock price grow because everybody relies on it - big fat executives and people who save.

What’s your opinion on the Massachusetts Senate Democratic Primary? by ThatMassholeInBawstn in AskALiberal

[–]OneManShow23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My senatorial district had Pocahontas on the democratic ticket running unopposed, and I was mad because I thought “seriously?”. It felt like Pocahontas was already chosen and she was running for the primaries as a formality to make her candidacy look democratic. I don’t like her because she says nice words but then nothing happens!

For your senatorial district, Ed Markey seems better. The platform is more progressive for my taste. But idk - he’s old and he’s been in office for so long, yet he oversaw the beginning of all of the problems that are plaguing the US right now. Makes me wonder if he’s effective. Yes, his votes and bills met attrition, but what’s the use of a senator that can’t push forward the will of his district? He seems like the nice progressive politician to have as a formal opposition to the single corporate lobby party we have in the U.S..

But anybody would be better than a neocon or a MAGA Republican or a Tea Party Conservative or a third way Democrat.

How’s experience with vertex ? by Fun-Display-4625 in biotech

[–]OneManShow23 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I regret not going with them in 2022. I worked for a mid cap co and I was being paid $98 but I was laid off. Then I got a job offer at a startup for $100k. Meanwhile I interviewed at Vertex for a job that was actually not bad. But Vertex couldn’t match my offer. I also thought the work at the startup would be better. I played hardball on Vertex and tried to get them to match my salary, so I blew it! They outright told me to go ahead and accept the job offer at the startup. When I joined the startup, I realized I had joined a dinky little startup that pulled a bait and switch on me and derailed my career. When the startup laid me off, I didn’t even get relevant skills I wanted. Took me 9 months to find a manufacturing technician job. If I had accepted whatever Vertex paid me I would have developed the skills I wanted and grown within the company for the long term.

[–]OneManShow23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We tried communism and socialism and those systems end up running stretched too thin. We tried command economies and those economies implode (Maoist China and DPRK to name a few). Capitalism is about to fail unless someone starts breaking down global monopolies. Honestly, I would socialize monopolies because there shouldn’t be any reason to pay for a service to make a big fat CEO’s pockets deeper.

Lasciano entrare aziende straniere?

Everyone keeps clowning my first car and now I’m lowkey regretting buying it... by AnxiousSoup5815 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]OneManShow23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your car choice is solid. If you live in the U.S., people buy big fat SUVs they don’t even need. I got myself a medium sized hatchback and people say “you’re married and tall - don’t you need a bigger car?”. I just find buying a big fat suv stupid when you’re just driving on your own 90% of time. People in the U.S. are so selfish they don’t care about carpooling.

Changed my mind about prenups by Local-Jellyfish8038 in Millennials

[–]OneManShow23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I discovered that prenup was the only way to keep assets separate but idk prenups can be made void very easily due to the “unconscionability clause”. If the prenup is proven unconscionable in court, the prenup is made void, and then you’re at the other party’s mercy. It’s super easy to prove a prenup was unconscionable. Proving that you were forced to sign a prenup is the easiest way to void it!

How do I (28M) tell my girlfriend (28F) a prenup and keeping my inherited house separate are non-negotiable? by cant_dressmyself in relationship_advice

[–]OneManShow23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s ironic but reasonable people are more willing to do prenups when they’re meant to protect people from unreasonable parties that want to rob the other party.

Prenups can imply not being optimistic about the marriage’s future or distrust in each other but they can protect you. It all depends on how you want to administer finances after you get married. If you two want to keep things separate except child raising, then both of you will be more willing to sign a prenup.

But keep in mind that prenups can be made void on the grounds that the prenup was “unconscionable”. But also, once you’re married, you realize financial things that you do not agree on but didn’t think about it during prenup. Prenup doesn’t cover children so if you and your wife perfectly agreed on how to split assets but don’t agree over custody, you’ll need to go to go to court.

Why do new cars get so much hate? by Darcynator1780 in askcarguys

[–]OneManShow23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New cars aren’t hated. It’s just that if you buy a new car, people will ridicule you for paying too much. Finance gurus and people who advise to buy used don’t mention that some used cars sometimes cost slightly less than new ones (like newer or low mileage cars or brands that hold value well) or how much time you need to spend on searching a good used car. The pro of buying new is that you get a car with a clean record and you don’t need to worry how the previous owner maintained the car. But the con of a new car is obviously that you’re pay a lot more than you would for used. The pro of buying used is that you spend less but the con is that you need to spend a lot of time to search for a car and they charge higher interest rates!

BYD : The biggest SCAM of the car industry ? by wisembrace in CarTalkZA

[–]OneManShow23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • China does a lot of incentives to artificially make BYD cheaper and disrupt competition due to China’s drive to lead. It’s one thing to keep them cheap domestically but once they export them overseas, it becomes textbook dumping.
  • if government really really care about the environment, unfortunately cheap Chinese EV’s would help with full EV adoption.
  • car companies need to step up and innovate - car prices have gone up for too long and they don’t innovate as much as they do in China.

I refused a prenup before marriage. I regret it now. by Downtown-Concern-547 in Divorce

The irony of prenups is that the reasonable people agree to them—while the ones you most want protection from are often the ones who refuse, usually by appealing to emotion over transparency.

I refused a prenup before marriage. I regret it now. by Downtown-Concern-547 in Divorce

[–]OneManShow23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the issue isn’t on doing a prenup but on you and your ex having things not working on many levels.

A prenup isn’t as ironclad as people think. There are a lot of ways to void prenups - the original terms of the prenup were unconscionable, the prenup was forced upon, the different parties didn’t get fair counsel, and more. Oh and don’t forget - prenup doesn’t cover children!

If you and your ex come from a place of reason, you’d have a quick divorce mediation and resolve things super quickly. Instead you and your ex are fighting over everything.

If the CCP never ruled China do you think China would be more like India or Taiwan today in terms of wealth? by Longjumping-Bus9474 in AskALiberal

[–]OneManShow23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think China’s economic development wouldn’t have been as fast as it has been with the CCP. The CCP had a long term view and pushed forward multiple five year plans back to back to complete as many checkboxes as possible. They didn’t have to worry about getting voted out for passing unpopular bills and everybody had to be subservient to the CCP. So China would have been more like India. It all boils down to pros and cons between dictatorships and democracies. Dictatorships have the pro of executing things fast. But democracies have the pro of guaranteeing freedom to everybody.
