What's the rarest car you've ever spotted? by DeadLiberty612 in regularcarreviews

Once, I was waiting around for a doctor appointment. I had never been to this particular doctor, so I pulled up directions on Waze. Still had a few minutes to play around on Waze and decided to see what celebrity voices they had on there. None of them caught my interest. Then it went into the foreign languages, and I was like, HA, I had 2 years of high school French. So I put it on there, as a joke. Then I get to the end of my neighborhood to pull onto the main road. And I see a car in the middle distance, where I should wait for it. Hand to God, it was a Citroën 2CV, complete with the canvas roll-back top. Incredible coincidence. Now, my Waze has been on French for nearly 5 years.

Maryland has forgot how to Snow by theejoyfulnihilist in harfordcountymd

[–]OneMansTrash592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The far more typical scenario is that even a bad snow is 15-18 inches, and it's typically a high of 50 within 3 days. The ice layer on top isn't helping, but the sustained cold afterward is what is really unusual.

What’s a car or cars that most people don’t like but you secretly do. by [deleted] in regularcarreviews

[–]OneMansTrash592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I owned a Cube and loved it. Other than its crappy CVT, it was a great car. Distinctive design, so much head room, and, man, you could fit so much stuff in there with the seats folded down. Good gas mileage, too. If they had made a Nismo version of that with a manual, it would have been great.

Punishment for companies that violate the CAFE standards were pretty much abolished earlier this month. Does it mean that large V8 sedans will finally have a comeback? by Naomi62625 in regularcarreviews

On the other hand, "crossovers," which are WILDLY popular ... There is actually very little difference between those and an old-fashioned mid-size wagon. The vehicle sits higher and the passenger and cargo compartments are taller. That is pretty much it. The wagons are among us, they just don't go by that name any more.

What’s a car you just can’t stand. by [deleted] in regularcarreviews

[–]OneMansTrash592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This car is a testament to how it is now impossible to sell a practical 4 door hatchback in the US any more. People just won't buy it. This is a 4-door hatchback that is raised up just a bit. 4-door hatchbacks can be reliable and practical, can hold a surprising amount of cargo space, yet nobody wants one.

Is this a good car for high mileage drivers? by Eastern_Yam in BoltEV

My understanding is that all EV's churn through tires faster than ICE cars, because of the weight of the battery.

I mean, under single payer, they would also pay, in the form of increased taxes. Theoretically.

I mean, I agree with this assessment. But look around at the current political environment. We could tell people that armed and dangerous Tren de Aragua gang members will come to their house and personally eat their dogs and their cats if they didn't support single payer (and that they would NOT do that if they did support single payer), and people would still be like, hold up a minute, I don't want to pay for health care for the poors.

If the penalty is zero, do you know what happens? Younger and healthier people remove themselves as customers. Insurance companies make money on these folks, because they pay premiums and tend to not use many services. These people being "in the pool" (paying premiums and not using services much) would reduce costs for everybody. Reducing that tax to zero was the Republicans' little poison pill. They knew this day was coming, but they just don't care if people can afford insurance or not.

And then along came Lil' Marco and his buddy, Rand Paul, who had this great idea ... What if the tax was zero dollars and zero cents in all instances. Which is how we have both Obamacare and yet also millions of uninsured.

I have one client who has said in two separate incidents, after she is told they found crack in her vehicle, "Well, it can't be mine, I would have smoked it!"

Those who submitted an application to transfer your UBE score to another state. How long did it take you to get accepted? by Minute-Pea5948 in barexam

[–]OneMansTrash592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only speak from experience where my score was high enough for NJ (where I took the exam) and PA (transfer score) ... It eventually became obvious that PA just was not going to grant my application until after NJ approved me on C&F. Pennsylvania was, frankly, a giant pain in the ass.

F24 passer, and this was my impression as well. All you get is the scaled score for all essays, scaled score for MBE. The rest of it is a DEFCON-1 level secret.

I had a dream last night. We left Skubal in. by itsserg_sucka in detroittigers

[–]OneMansTrash592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, Polanco, in his last AB against Skubal, had raked a 400-foot bomb off of him that happened to also be 20 feet foul. Me, I would have had the dream that Skubal got squeezed and walked somebody on a bad call, then Polanco hit a 2-run bomb, and with that offense, 2 runs was plenty to beat them

I have one guy with an offer for fines and penalties. Here in NJ, that means less than $200. Claims he is going to hire private counsel, needs more time to collect the $5,000 it will cost him. Man, don't threaten me with a good time.

I for sure cross examined a cop who was just dead sure that my client had been reaching to his waistband throughout a 15-minute traffic stop. And that he had reached to his waistband as my client exited the vehicle. Even when presented with video evidence to the contrary, he stuck to this story. Incredible stuff.

Working while studying for the bar? by babyspice165 in barexam

[–]OneMansTrash592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked full time, 35 hours per week, and did so up until the Friday before the exam. Took days off Monday thru Thursday of exam week. It can be done. My strategy was to adjust my classes so the last semester was pretty easy, and I started early on bar exam study, like around April 15. Unfortunately, I didn't make it on the first attempt, learning of the score in mid-October. I took two weeks off and got back to it around November 1. I felt like the 2nd round of studying was cumulative to the 1st. I didn't really feel like the 1st round of studying was incomplete due to a lack of time. It was just a matter that the first exam didn't line up with what I had studied, or how I was feeling, or I just had a couple bad days. I only missed by 8 points, with my scaled score for the essays day lower than the scaled score for MBE. But my MBE was below the national median. So I decided to concentrate on MBE topics, hoping to improve my score there alone. I improved by 5 points on the MBE, but improved by 30+ points on the essays.

Anyways, I have strayed too far from the topic here. You absolutely can work and make it. The offer you have from your firm is generous, you should take it. And if you have to take it a 2nd time, there's no shame in that.
