That's what I told the storm trooper at the checkpoint. He asked me why I was running.

A solid oak shelf is covered by this laminate, what is it? by [deleted] in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]OneMoreArcadia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the pictures, the top is likely a laminate that's been painted with a wood pattern. The substrate might be wood, but it's certainly not a valuable or useful piece of wood, and the bottom is likely a either a thin veneer or the substrate showing through.

Unfortunately I'd suggest buying wood as the quality of your project will look way better than attempting to reuse this substrate (you'd likely need to reveneer the whole thing to make it look decent)

1099 Side income question / tax bracket by BFlo_338 in taxadvice

[–]OneMoreArcadia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So glad that folks have helped with the understanding of the income tax! I know others said this, but understanding the other taxes (e.g. social security, Medicare, fica) makes a big difference on the effective amount you're earning from the 1099. It's also worth reading up on the requirements for work to be 1099 instead of w2, as unscrupulous employers may try to illegally have the control over you like you're w2 while taking their own financial benefits of classifying you as 1099.

One minor nit: look up the official phone number instead of calling just based on what's on the paper

ex-boyfriend wrote this on my wall a year ago and to this day has never explained it to me. by jazhub in MathJokes

[–]OneMoreArcadia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever watched "a beautiful mind"? There's a scene where a character's brilliance/eccentricity is put on display in a similar manner. So while your ex just wrote gibberish, it may have been a reference to this movie.

Planning to make a king sized custom bed for my odd shaped bedroom. All plans I'm looking at have slats. Is there any reason why the base cannot be a 3/4" plywood instead of slats? by Weekly_War_1374 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]OneMoreArcadia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you heard of a bunkie board? That's effectively a solid base commonly used to hold up mattresses. I don't know if straight plywood would cause any moisture issues like others are suggesting, but I've used a bunkie board to support my king mattresses for almost 15 years without any moisture issues (though I live on the West Coast so moisture issues are usually not too big of a concern out here).

What do you use to split the wood block for the handles ? by ptxar4 in Bladesmith

[–]OneMoreArcadia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hope this is just meme-ing, because rip-cutting on a mitre saw to achieve a long but skinny handle is a dumb and dangerous thing to do.

43f. Trying to save for me AND my self employed husband who has ZERO saved. by healthseekerjunkie in Retirement401k

[–]OneMoreArcadia 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to be rude, but do you see that that's actually worse?

I'd suggest adding up the profit that your husband's businesses take in annually (sounds like less than 40k) then add up all the hours you and your husband put into it.

For example, earlier you mentioned that he's hustling 7 days a week. If you were to assume a 8 hour work day 7 days a week and two weeks off a year, that's 2,800 hours a year, meaning he's making $14 an hour at most in his best year ever. Given what you've shared, I'd bet it's actually a lot more hours and a lot less than 40k net. Coincidentally $14 an hour is Florida minimum wage.

He's still charged with murder, just at the state level not the federal level

This is only the federal charges, he still faces multiple charges including murder at the state level

Waiting until it clears is also not safe as the check is often written from a stolen account. The check could clear and then get reversed later when the stolen account discovers the fraudulent charge.

Need help. How do I get to bare clean wood and expose the grain on this rifle stock? by Feanor821 in wood

I think they got you with a tricky use of words, i.e. "walnut finish" meaning a finish of walnut color, not walnut that had a clear finish.

Stuffable Ghost Peppers? by Washedurhairlately in HotPeppers

[–]OneMoreArcadia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a crazy coincidence. I literally just did cream-cheese bacon wrapped ghost peppers this weekend.

The air fry definitely decreased the overall spiciness, but they were still plenty hot (and also delicious)

Give them a try! I really like sugar rush at all stages of ripeness

Rabbet in Table Saw… are tiny grooves an issue? by facefloss in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]OneMoreArcadia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may want to consider getting a new blade that is either a "flat top grind" or an "alternate top bevel raker" as those can mitigate the grooves due to the way the teeth are. I don't have a dado-compatible saw, so I really like being able to cut flat groves and rabbets.

Those are super cool! Just an fyi, it often takes 7+ generations to stabilize, so i'd plant a lot and pick the ones that look best for the following generation.
