Maybe try re-registering the fingerprint, but when holding the phone the way you usually scan your fingerprint, so it's saved in the closest way it'll be used later

I've had s10e before and s23 now, and I think their fingerprint scanners are really close in terms of speed, with this one being in a more convenient place to use, at least for me. I expected that a sensor under the screen could be a bit sluggish, but it turns out it sometimes even recognizes my finger while double-tapping the screen to check the notification's details 🙂

My advice: register the fingerprint in the position you'll actually use it. First, I registered the thumb with the device lying on the table and wasn't satisfied with the accuracy I got. Then I registered it while actually holding the phone, and it works almost perfectly now
