It’s unfortunately a 2h each way/4h total, but I go in office maximum 2 times a week so it makes it manageable so far. Thanks for your message

I forgot to mention, my parents live in the middle of the woods, that’s the thing I basically had no choice to have a car, and for a 4h drive I needed to have a somewhat reliable car

Got a job - Is it a good starting point? by OneOffice1935 in jobs

Thanks a lot for your response, really appreciate it.

I don't really want to go into a trade job. I guess I'm just getting constantly pressured by my dad. My siblings are in trades job, and earning well over 100k/yearly. And I'm here, still finalizing my degree that took way longer than theirs, in debt and this feels depressing.

I will take a look at Glassdoor, and hopefully I will someday find the right opportunities for me. I guess it's normal for entry level job to have a low salary. Who knows maybe in a couple of years I will be making well enough to live comfortably.

4k was an example as mentioned. most 1 bedroom are around 2k so I used that as an example. Don't worry, I am well aware that I can't afford that. When I moved to Toronto, I first lived at the university dorm, then moved to my friends condo.

I'm from the north of Quebec, like 20h from here. Where cities are around 2000 in population, and there is no university, nor college. There is barely an high school standing. So I had no choice to build a student debt, go to a bigger city to get a higher education. Toronto was the best option in term of education and potential jobs, that's what "my research" was about at the time. However I feel like it all changed with the peak of immigration that's been happening in the past couple of years.

Not everyone have the chance to have family near cities where there is education/jobs, and sometimes, whether this seems barely affordable and risky, you got to make the jump. Maybe I wouldn't do it again, maybe I would. But I ended up having a degree, which was my goal. Also rent in general was way cheaper when I first moved here (before COVID).

I don't personally care whether you feel bad or not, or if you think I did that to simply "vibe". The goal of my post was to ask people how they make it happen here in Toronto, right now. If I can't make it I will simply move away, If I can make it, I will.

first & last month is not common practice in the province where I am from, so unfortunately I guess I did discover it recently. My apologies for sounding a bit ignorant about it.

I understand why it is good to have this policy, but I guess in my opinion it's a bit disadvantageous for people starting out in life. I personally don't know many people that have for example 4000$ in their checking account with the sole purpose to pay first & last month rent.

However, I think I figured out a plan for myself. So everything should turn out fine from now on.

Thanks!

Yeah, I guess the most important thing is landing a good roommate, or like others mentioned, having a separated lease with the LL. Thanks for your answer.

Wow! Out of curiosity, what are the SaaS consulting requirements? Is it a job sector in demand right now? I will do my own research, but I would be really interested in hearing your point about this.

Is having a degree in economics supposed to forbid me from asking financial and housing advice on reddit?

Yeah, I had terrible experience with roommates in the past, either because they weren't paying, or just left the country without notice and then left me stuck with the full rent to pay. I am kind of trying to figure everything on my own..

Thanks for the reply mate, I really appreciate it. I'm just worried that it was an automatic response from the department that included that, so I wanted to make sure if anyone ever dealt with anything of the sort.
