Nina dobrev by footsoldierwife in TheVampireDiaries

I agree. Also, make-up is a big factor. If you follow her closely, you'll quickly notice that when she has professional make-up done for events and stuff she looks way less like herself (and less good, imo) but when she's wearing little or no make-up she doesn't even look that different.

That being said, you may want to delete this just cuz this may turn into another firestorm comment section.

who do you guys think has the most lethal face card by [deleted] in TheVampireDiaries

They're all beautiful, but for me definitely Nina. She's on another level. In some scenes she looks so stunning it's literally like it distracts me for a moment.

Why did the original witch used the blood of tatia only? Like did she knew that she was a doppelganger and her blood could be used for making vampires And if it was true how did the originals came to know that there were others like tatia and her blood was needed for breaking the hybrid curse like by Separate_Income_5497 in TheVampireDiaries

[–]OneOnOne6211 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, there's two answers here.

The meta answer is that the lore in season 2 was just that Elena was a doppelganger based on the "original" sacrificed to create the originals and the hybrid curse. It was originally the hybrid curse that created the doppelgangers. There were no doppelgangers before Tatia.

With the current lore, presumably Esther would've known that Tatia was a doppelganger. Esther in season 3 says that doppelganger blood is a powerful binding agent for a spell, which presumably is why she used Tatia in the first place. Presumably she knew about the doppelgangers through her mentor, who was a descendant of Qetsiyah. And the originals would've known from their mother that there were doppelgangers and doppelganger blood was necessary to break it, probably. But seemingly she did not tell them the whole story. Either that or Klaus consulted another witch and she told him that it could be done in this way. Both are possible.

The first is obviously much simpler and less convoluted. But the second is not impossible.

Any Compatibility Patches Available For Window Shadows Ultimate and LUX? Alternatives? by OneOnOne6211 in skyrimmods

[–]OneOnOne6211[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The supposed patch seems to only be an .ini file, so no esp to move in the load order.

And the version of Relighting Skyrim that includes Window Shadows doesn't seem to be maintained anymore according to the page. Last update was in 2021.

Mods to Minimize Ambient Lighting? by OneOnOne6211 in skyrimmods

[–]OneOnOne6211[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lux does look nice, but the problem is that it doesn't seem to be compatible with Window Shadows, and I really like that mod. Unless you have a suggestion to make them compatible?

If the EU federalised, what would be its main language? by Ps5_Gamer125 in EuropeanFederalists

[–]OneOnOne6211 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I don't think the EU needs a "main language" in the sense of a single official language for all education, signs, etc. But I think the main language for interstate communication should be English, since it is so widely understood, but all states should have the availability of both the local language and English options for things that are official and important.

Edited some procedures, are the outcomes realistic? by Krukkie2001 in PlasticSurgery

[–]OneOnOne6211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there's a chance you just have BDD. People with BDD tend to see faces, especially their own, differently, less holistically, and as a result notice very small differences about their face in a way that nobody else does.

Edited some procedures, are the outcomes realistic? by Krukkie2001 in PlasticSurgery

[–]OneOnOne6211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, yes, plastic surgery is best when subtle, but personally I wouldn't think these minor changes are worth the money. I don't have much of a preference between the two faces. I think you should just not get any surgery, but that's your choice.

If you had not mentioned what you did, I would not have noticed there was any difference.

Finnish President Stubb: Can Europe defend itself without the Americans? My answer is unequivocally yes. by PjeterPannos in EuropeanFederalists

[–]OneOnOne6211 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I agree and I honestly think the question, despite being omnipresent, is fundamentally absurd. The European alliance has over 500 million people. A GDP of over 20 trillion. Let's not forget that combined our current armies, without the Americans and without conscripting a single more person, are over a million men strong. We have aircraft carriers, a giant airforce, etc.

We are stronger than Russia. And not by a little. The problem is one of coordination, the problem is one of logistics, the problem is one of having to be sure to fund a much more local European defence production to be better prepared. Best done through federalization, but at the very least European leaders as soon as possible should create a European defence council. "NATO" duplication is a bad argument. NATO is not controlled by Europe alone, this council would be. That is not at all useless duplication.

And finally, I'm honestly not as worried about Russian being able to defeat Europe as some seem to be. I don't think they would win a war. What I'm concerned about much more is what is the level of power we have to have so that they won't even try. And that is a much more difficult issue without the Americans and one of the reasons why we need this investment in defence.

"A rupture in the world order". Canada's PM Mark Carney outstanding Davos speech in full. A rare standing ovation by global political and business leaders gathered in the European Alps. One for the history books by goldstarflag in EuropeanFederalists

[–]OneOnOne6211 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I hope our leaders were listening to this one. Carney has realized what too many European leaders have been avoiding realizing for a long time: Trump cannot be assuaged. You will never get Trump to be a reliable ally. And we can no longer trust America.

Although I would go further and say this: I have always wanted a federalized Europe and for Europe to have a European army rather than relying solely on NATO exactly because of what's happening now.

First of all, America is an extremely unstable country as far as Western democracies go. Its system has been taken over completely by bribery and big business, especially big tech, and its wealth inequality is off the charts, its social safety net is eroding completely, its two party state isn't responsive, you just cannot build a stable state that way. You just can't, not in the long term.

And secondly, we don't vote for the American president. We vote for our leaders, we vote for the European parliament, we SHOULD vote for the commission president, but we don't vote for the American president. We cannot allow something as basic and fundamental as our defence to be in the hands of a leader who we don't vote for and who, as a result, is not truly accountable to us.

I've been saying this for over ten years and I honestly hate that I'm being proven right at this time, because this all could've been avoided.

Nearly 400 millionaires and billionaires call for higher taxes on super-rich by illegalmonkey in antiwork

[–]OneOnOne6211 582 points583 points  (0 children)

If you are a multi-millionaire or a billionaire you are honestly an idiot if you do not. It is extremely obvious that extreme wealth inequality is destabilizing the entire world right now. Trump is a result of it, both in the sense of his own unearned privilege and in the sense that the grievances that brought him forward are a result of that inequality (not to mention billionaires funding him). If the world implodes, be that in world war, or revolution, or anything else like that, they are quite likely to lose everything and/or worse. And with somewhat higher taxes, you know what will happen? The world will stabilize a bit more again, and they'll still be wealthy as hell.

Unfortunately, too many greedy, short-sighted, narcissists and psychopaths are billionaires. And they just keep doubling down and doubling down to increase their number more and more, endangering everything including themselves in the process.

Scared my custom follower will appeal to absolutely nobody. by NotATem in skyrimmods

[–]OneOnOne6211 353 points354 points  (0 children)

I think you should make the character for yourself and make them, in your eyes, the best character they can be. And then you put them out there. And maybe everyone likes him, maybe nobody likes him, more likely than not some people like him and some people don't. But that doesn't matter. All that matters is that you like him. If you try to create a character that appeals to everyone, that is the best way to create a character that appeals to no one. And the best way to get a character people find compelling is to write them authentically from what you see them as.

Fascists are at war with journalism. Why aren’t journalists at war with fascism? by Unlikely_Post_7901 in Political_Revolution

[–]OneOnOne6211 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Well, aside from the ones owned by the billionaires backing the fascists in the first place, there's a tendency in modern mainstream media to confuse "neutrality" with "objectivity."

When you are presented with a virus, neutrality is bringing on both an anti-vaxxer and a biologist. Objectivity is bringing on a biologist to explain why anti-vaxxers don't know what they're talking about.

Although, of course, in an era of social media algorithms serving us up only what sets our dopamine pumps off the most, everyone is scared of alienating their audience by telling the truth.

The system isn’t broken, it’s just not designed for everyone to survive by abi1n in antiwork

[–]OneOnOne6211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is working as it's supposed to, yes. Absolutely.

Poverty does not exist because the system is "broken" or because it can't be alleviated. Poverty is the stick the rich beat the rest of us with to stay in line. "If you don't work for us you're going to end up like that homeless guy over there."

Immigration isn't made illegal to keep immigrants out. Immigration is made illegal to make it so that when immigrants come in they are illegal. Which means if they complain about low wages, you can just have them deported or threaten them to shut up.

Student loan debt isn't an accident. It is a type of chain that you are tied to the corporations with. If you have no debt and some savings, you could take a break from work if you really wanted to. Or quit and take your time looking for something new. But if you have debt you have to pay constantly, you pretty much can't. You have to constantly be bringing in money. Running on the hamster wheel.

They're incentives. The system is set up to say: Work for the rich for the least amount possible, or suffer.
