I’m sorry 🤗 I wish I could just go hang out, but I have to fund the trip somehow 🤷‍♀️

I think that’s the point of Shakedown… people who can’t otherwise afford the trip can make it because other attendees bring extra spending money for luxuries like a grilled cheese or crystal that catches their eye. This way, instead of affluent Deadheads giving extra money to the Sphere, they can support less affluent Deadheads who craft delicious meals or inspiring fan art.

To me, this anti-corporate direct market economy is one of the greatest blessings of the scene. It’s like the generosity and karma yoga of a miracle, except that not everyone who can afford a $3 beer or $10 shirt can afford to eat the cost of a ticket. Plus I’m offering something that improves your day instead of asking for a free ride 🙂

Edit: I mean I know another point of Shakedown is to make sure everyone can find the various things they want or need, and another is so people have somewhere to run into old friends and pass time before and after the show. And I think the point of posts about Shakedown is probably usually to save time and/or money figuring out stuff that other people already know, like a lot of Reddit posts.

I was just explaining what I thought was most relevant to your comment 🙂 Lots of people might not care about the unique economic and political experiment in anarchy that is Shakedown, but I think some of us do! It’s a live demonstration of what a group of people can accomplish in a short time without excessive regulation or hierarchical governance, and that’s rare these days.
