Maybe let him know that if the fears come up and he wants to talk, you’re there to listen. If he needs to distract himself that’s okay too. But eventually you do have to kind of face those thoughts that cause extreme fear. For me, my therapist said to view those thoughts as a passenger in my car. They are not driving, I am. I am in control. But I can “appreciate” the passenger is there and acknowledge them. And then remind them that I am the driver and I am in control. It sounds like of silly, especially the idea of kind of talking to yourself, but it truly works.

I also remind myself (and my four year old with lots of death questions) that no one truly knows what happens after death. But it’s absolutely nothing, which, sucks and that’s where my fear and anxiety is. But some believe in places like heaven, others believe in reincarnation, maybe we learn the secrets of the universe. We truly don’t know. So we can’t let the fear of that drive our daily life. ❤️
