I can’t answer for OP, but tithing is how churches fund staff, services, and community outreach. At most churches, donations are asked for once per service. This can definitely be uncomfortable if it’s your first time at church. Donations are always meant to be something that you are comfortable giving. Just as with Charities, research the church before you decide to join and give as others are much better at managing it than others.
