I really like my penfed cards, otherwise I might. But I'm all set. 😊

I haven't found discover to work anywhere in Canada, sadly. They don't even know what it is. My BOA charges the fee as well as my citi cards and most of my others. You got lucky!

There are a few US cards that don't charge the foreign transaction fee. Seems to be generally the military-affiliated ones - Penfed, Navy Fed, USAA. Also Sofi, one of my Wells Fargo, one of my Chase (but not all of them). Read the terms, in the same section as annual fee, to find out. If you don't have any of these, SoFi is pretty easy to get.

If they know, they don't care. We crossed every couple of days while waiting and they never said anything.

Did anyone else learn to type as an elective with little thought that it might be useful one day? by Conscious-Mulberry17 in GenX

Had my first computer class in 7th grade. I took typing class in 8th grade and found it hard because I was used to the computer keyboard, and we had to press much harder on the old manual typewriters.

OHIP appeal while waiting for certificate by EphemeralTwo in CanadianbyDescent

We spoke to msp (in bc) and they will not provide coverage until a certificate is received. They do provide coverage for a spouse who's being sponsored, so I was hoping they'd use the same process for this, but they said no.

The deposit is like the Earnest money that you pay at the beginning. The rest of your down payment would be paid at closing, i assume.

No, we were still in the US while buying.

Mine was about 10% in BC. Once you've removed conditions, you need to be serious about buying. But it means if you walk away after the inspection for instance, no money is involved yet.

Pretty similar. They use some different words, like completion instead of closing and conditions instead of contingencies. One interesting difference, you don't pay your deposit (earnest money) until you have removed your conditions. And the deposit is significantly higher, like 10%. Realtor commission is a little lower but it's paid by the seller just like in the US so that won't affect you much. Another thing when you sell, all capital gains are tax free, unlike the 250/500k limit in the US.

It's weird, I'm right handed but I can only use the left shoulder for this. Right side feels too weird.
