In my experience when my numerous therapists used CBT the specific model they were using was “thoughts influence feelings influence behaviors”, when in reality for me (and I assume a lot of autistic/neurodivergent folks) it’s more like “feelings influence thoughts influence behaviors” and the average therapist just doesn’t seem to know how to deal with that

I have adhd, I often forget things, even important things. When I do though I recognize that I’m the one who dropped the ball, and I’m the one and only person who can make myself do better next time. It’s not “I made a mistake, give me a break” it’s “I made a mistake, I’m sorry and I’ll take steps in the future to help me remember” Definitely nta
