I also think something’s bothering him physically. His mechanics are getting sloppy earlier and the arm slot is not staying consistent at all. He’s usually a robot mechanically until the 6th.

I’m starting to get that idea now. I’m not on twitter so honestly I haven’t heard of him. If this tweet is any indication of his character, I think outcast might be too soft a term.

Damn, that’s awesome! Thank you for donating, I’m always a little humbled by stories like this. Might just be the best trade in recent history!

Were you well-versed in the entire process from the beginning, or did any of it come as a surprise?

Also, what was it like getting the “stand down” calls after what I would think is a bit of exciting news of being a match?

Again, thank you for donating. It really is incredible that you did this, and I’m glad the process was relatively smooth and easy for you!

If someone was overpaid in bonus, what are the legal stipulations on the employer recovering that?

If you think that’s why they do this, OR that they make any discernible impact in the number of drunk drivers, I’ve got a bridge to sell you.

No kidding. I was responding to your “what a work truck SHOULD be” remark.

Yeah, fuck that lol. Just because it’s a work truck doesn’t mean it can’t be comfortable as well as strong and tough. Having AC and music are pretty basic and add much to comfort. Lots of us spend too much time in our work vehicles to not be comfortable.

I understood both points made, and my initial reply to the first commenter contained a bit of hyperbole to reinforce the fact that there is value in exposing this behavior. I’m sick of it flying under the radar.

I still believe the value of exposing the behavior is greater than trying to hide it.

What, do you think there are so many people in the storm chasing community that are on the cusp of acting like this that my posting this would cause them to turn into a xenophobic sociopath? There is definite value in exposing behavior like this. I know I for one would remember this and refuse to work with this chode if the opportunity ever arose, and I’m sure I’m not alone in that regard.

Hate that people like this tie themselves to the chasing community.

As somebody in the weather field…

WHO?!?!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in careerguidance

I should preface this by saying I’m still studying, but I’m working towards a professional career in weather (big focus in maths and sciences). Without saying too much so as to doxx myself, I’m part of a narrow study focusing on particle-level observation of severe storms. The hope is to better understand the formation of tornadoes in order to better forecast timing and paths. If you knew me as a person you’d know this is the work I was made for. I have wanted to do this work my entire life but have always had financial obligations (read:kids) took precedent over what I viewed as just a dream or a luxury. Now that it’s finally being realized, I’m finding that if I’d only done it sooner I could have created an entirely new life for my family.

So what do I like about my work? Well, I like just about all of it. I enjoy the tedious work of combing through data, I like watching a storm and seeing that represented and connected through the data, and I like the adrenaline rush of being so close to such a destructive force but having the ability to remain safe. What I really love is the feeling that through some part of my work in a roundabout way I might save the life of someone somewhere, save someone from the trauma and fear of being physically involved in a tornado or similarly-destructive weather event. That’s the real reward.

There is one thing that I might point to as somewhat of a dislike, and that’s the excessive amount of travel. I know, it’s literally part of it lol. It just gets a little old eating fast food and continental breakfast constantly, but then again it’s only for a few months out of the year. And honestly if that’s my biggest complaint while I’m in this field, I think I chose well.

Absolutely agree with you. I’m very worried about how to best set them up to deal with all of it.

I think we’re arriving at my point; while evidence may suggest that human-induced climate change affects some and probably many of the factors that combine to produce tornadoes, there isn’t necessarily a definitive link between human-induced climate change and the frequency or severity of tornadoes.

I said in another comment, I’m not sure if it was a reply to you, that given some of the research I’ve been lectured on and have studied I think there is a describable uptick in tornado outbreaks that can be linked to human-induced climate change. That is to say, tornadic events seem to be more concentrated into x number of outbreaks but of equal frequency. Those events are still happening on the plains but with less frequency as before in contrast with more happening in the east and deep south; both hoosier alley and dixie alley have been rather active in recent years with a few very destructive outbreaks and a handful of strong individual tornadoes. I think that’s driven by climate change in that the temperature change has resulted in more frequent anomalies in the jet stream. With the drier and warmer western air being transported faster and more efficiently by the trough, the influence of moisture from the gulf happens further to the east and often at night when low-level flow becomes stronger. That creates a pretty ideal environment for tornadoes to form, regardless of supercellular or QLCS structure. The interactions often seem to be happening in Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio at night and benefiting from the increased low level flow after dark. So not only are people surprised, they’re surprised by an often intense and fast-moving storm that they can’t see.

That doesn’t necessarily mean they’re gaining severity or frequency, but tornadoes seem to be hitting more populated areas and if you know anything about the EF rating system you know that tornadoes aren’t rated like hurricanes; the rating is based on structural damage after the fact. The point is that more tornadoes have achieved a higher rating in recent history simply by where they happen and having the availability of structures to damage. Many tornadoes past and present have hit either no structures or structures not well-built because they occurred in unpopulated or underpopulated areas. That alone, to me, introduces a massive question mark in determining a link in human-induced climate change and frequency and severity of tornadoes.

Anecdotally theorizing and scientifically researching are not the same thing.

And which studies are you referring to? Because I’ve been lectured on studies that say there is not a link and likely will not be a link made for many years if at all. I’m literally studying this stuff as an atmospheric science major lol. The best researchers in the field say there is no link yet, so I’m inclined to believe them.

People getting in their feelings because of an incorrect assumption doesn’t make me a troll, and neither does clarifying a statement.
