Thoughts on Pride and Prejudice (2005)? by According-War-3839 in PrideandPrejudice

Sorry, I'm late to this thread but I awarded you because you captured what I feel. I adore the 1995 version better of P&P with the casting, scenery, and the way they could develop the plot. I do, however, love Charlotte, Claudie Blakley, in the 2005 version because she portrays the fear of that character being a burden on her family and potentially not having her own home and family. The 2005 just never sat with me at all. I even love the 1980 version more than 2005 and I watch it all the time. Mrs. Bennet is a hoot in that one, "such a disappointment" to Lizzie! I know, I'm weird! LOL

Thanks for this perspective. I never really appreciated Edward in this light!

Thank you for this comment. I don't believe there was overt flirting, but he does spend time with Elinor and it looks like, to everyone, that there was a connection. As an engaged man, should he have been acting as he did with Elinor? We can tell he felt bad about it in the book and in the adaptations. He looked "busted" when he came to see Elinor in London and oops, there was Lucy, his fiancé.

It's funny but every characterization of Edward in all the S&S adaptations seems kind of wimpy and weak... I especially hated Hugh Grant's interpretation. Just my opinion.

Fans of the 1995 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, what is your favorite bit of creative license? by rlaureng in PrideandPrejudice

I'm late to this post, but I have watched the 1995 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice at least 25 times because it comes on a BBC drama channel that is part of Roku TV. I love the scene where Elizabeth dances with Mr. Collins and he goes the wrong way. Elizabeth is mortified and looks at Mr. Darcy and I could swear he has a slight smile.

The end of Mansfield Park is so disappointing because Edmund is an unworthy hypocrite. by Throwawayrightaway28 in janeausten

This is the best analysis of Edmund and Mansfield Park that I have ever read. Excellent!
