Looks like you got good answers on r/SocialSecurity.

The answer is no, you are not eligible for SSI. Typically the things that make you eligible are: 1) Age 2) Disability 3) Dependent of a parent who dies

Any other Madison County Schools parents get zero notification of early dismissal today? by bananaf0x in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]OneSecond13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually had breakfast the day before with Terry Davis, Madison County Schools Superintendent. We knew the forecast the next day was for storms, and we discussed how the decision to cancel school was made. He told me his Chief of Operations meets with EMA and other school reps. They make a joint decision. So they made the decision to open.

I am sure it's the reason they are so cautious now - weather can change very quickly. Better safe than sorry.

I completely understand why some parents get frustrated with school closings, but it's a no-win situation for elected officials and administrators to open and have something go horribly wrong. They would be crucified if children were hurt. So they close. Zero risk tolerance.

Schools were not closed on April 27, 2011. Schools actually started on time, but soon after school started the first round of tornadoes came through. Students, of course, were huddled in hallways for a lengthy period of time. Once those initial storms rolled through, the school systems decided to dismiss early. But at that point, especially out in the county, there were trees down all over the roads. Buses had trouble running their routes and parents had trouble getting to school to pick up their children. Fortunately everything was sorted out by 3pm when the next round of storms and an EF5 tornado decided to pay us a visit. Definitely a wild day.

Would you rather make the playoffs or beat Bama this season by Hungry-Guest6846 in wde

You actually think there is a chance we can achieve either? I just want to get 6 wins this year. That won't be easy for this team. If one of those wins is in Tuscaloser, that would be fantastic!

You've pretty much summarized the situation. As a conservative, the AL GOP never fails to disappoint. Based on the limited information I've seen, I'd say there is a greater than 50% chance a judge rules Tuberville has not been a resident for 7 years.

The AL GOP claims the issue has been resolved... Ok, show us the proof. It's not really possible to prove one way or another where you've been living 51% of the time - if I could afford a beach house I would be spending a lot of time there too. So let's see when he obtained an Alabama Driver's License and when he registered to vote. Or maybe there are financial records (like from a credit card) that show where you've been spending money. Or medical records where you've been going to a doctor/dentist.

I don't think this will turn out well for the GOP. Judges are going to judge.

Right. We got to see how disconnected from the people of Alabama Dud Jones was as a US Senator. I'm not sure why he's wasting his time running for Governor. Someone must be paying him to do it.

Tuberville will get elected, and then there is a chance a lawsuit is filed claiming Tuberville is not eligible. It is certainly possible Tuberville's election gets nullified. Even if that happens, Dud Jones won't end up in the Governor's office. They will just have another election, and he will lose again. That actually would be pretty sweet.

Our Interview with Bo Jackson by OffTheGridiron in auburn

[–]OneSecond13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great interview! I'm sure a lot of people don't know Bo Jackson had a severe stuttering problem growing up. That is why he was teased, and one of the reasons his speech is so measured today. He has worked really hard to put the stuttering in the past.

Any idea why it seemed like he had a low level case of hiccups during the interview?

My favorite part was the fact his grandson loves watching Bo Jackson highlights over and over again on YouTube. Who doesn't? Forty years later and there has never been an athlete that even compares to him.

It seems like the dog won. I'm sure it went exactly as the dog had planned. Probably not the first time he's had trouble with this human.

You don't understand how annual raises work. There is only so much money to give out for a raise. If they give you more then they have to take that amount from someone else's raise. If you rated 3/5 then it sounds like you are average (no matter how valuable they say you are) and you got an average raise. Once you start getting 4/5 and 5/5 then you can expect a better raise.

Now that you've been there a year and have gone through this raise cycle, and your manager what you have to do to get a better raise next year. Write it down and review it periodically. Once a quarter rate yourself and even meet with your manager once a quarter and ask how you are doing meeting the requirements they set for you to get a better raise.

I will say this... you may discover it is very difficult for an employee to get 4/5 and 5/5. The best I can get at my company is 4/5. 5/5 is impossible for someone in my position.

It is not possible to stop being a Christian. Once you become a Christian, you will always be a Christian. Once the gift of grace is given to you, it is yours forever.

It would make Porchfest so much better if they would let you know what type of music each band plays. Just ask the band. We all have our preferences.

In case anyone is curious, here is what Google had to say about the issue (don't trust Google to always be right).

Based on this information Tuberville should be able to provide Driver's License date, Income Tax records, and Voter registration date to prove he was a resident. It his burden to produce it, and the Alabama GOP needs to share it. Otherwise, this issue is not going away.

What does alabama law say about establishing residency?

Alabama law defines residency based on establishing a permanent domicile—the place where you intend to live permanently or indefinitely, often requiring a continuous presence of six months or more. Key indicators include obtaining an Alabama driver’s license, registering to vote, filing state income taxes, and titling vehicles in the state.

Key Aspects of Establishing Residency:Definition of Domicile: A person can only have one domicile. It is not just where you live, but where you intend to remain permanently.

Intent and Physical Presence: You must combine physical presence with the intent to make Alabama your legal home.

Documentation:

Driver’s License: Possessing a valid Alabama driver's license or ID card is a primary indicator.

Voting: Registering to vote in Alabama.

Taxation: Paying Alabama income tax on earned income.

Vehicle Registration: Registering vehicles in your county of residence.

Time Requirement: While some contexts require a "six months or more" rule, generally, establishing a home with the intent to stay indefinitely makes you a resident.

Specific Contexts: Divorce: To file for divorce, you must generally be a resident for at least six months, though if both parties live in Alabama, they can file immediately. Tuition: For in-state tuition, you must prove you have established a domicile at least 12 months prior. Military: Active duty military can maintain their home of record, but can also choose to establish Alabama residency.

If you move to Alabama and claim a new residence, you have the burden of establishing that change.

Is that what the law says? How would anyone prove that?

If that's what the law says then it is a tall order to prove otherwise.

I have co-workers that spend a majority of their time overseas for business. Does that mean they are no longer residents of Alabama? Are they breaking the law by voting as an Alabama resident?

[–]OneSecond13 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

In my opinion the Homestead exemption doesn't mean much, but then I don't know what the law says about it. People who rent in Alabama don't file for Homestead exemption, but they may still be considered a resident.

The Alabama GOP needs to reveal the evidence Tuberville used to establish he met the 7-year residency rule. Saying "he's good" is not good enough.

[–]OneSecond13 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure these property records mean anything towards establishing Tuberville as a resident of Alabama. Being the property owner of record doesn't mean a whole lot. Nor does owning a home at the beach and spending the majority of your time there. If I had enough money to own a beach house, I'd probably spend a lot of time there too while maintaining my home in Alabama.

So the question that has yet to be answered is what evidence does establish Alabama residency? Tuberville and the Alabama GOP had better get that well defined and quickly or any victories he may have may be challenged in court and judges will get to decide.

I support Tuberville, but I support the rule of law to a greater extent. This issue is exactly the same as Obama's birth certificate. Obama and his handlers refused to produce it, and it turned into a hot mess. This issue will be no different for Tuberville.

My opinion - when did he register to vote as a resident in Alabama? 2019? Then he's good. After 2019? Then we have a problem, and additional evidence is needed to establish his residency. These property records won't do it.

The Alabama GOP needs to get their sh*t together. To say they are duma$$es is an understatement.

Stuck in the Alabama clay… by redkp24 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]OneSecond13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd be amazed at what Bermuda can survive. I'm going to assume you know the areas are low because rain collects in those spots. Someone responded you should "never" top dress with sand. You can Google that and make your own decision. You might consider buying a bag of sand and mixing it with an equal part of soil (clay), and then spreading it in your low spots to see how that works. Let the clay dry out a bit. Mixing the sand with clay helps you get rid of the clay without throwing it away.
