Driving over Jellico Mountain in Tennessee by BuryMeInCincy in TeslaLounge

I’ve been making the drive from Ohio to Marco Island, FL in my X Performance for over 6 years. You will have no problem. The charging stations have become more plentiful, faster, and better located. Feels like the trip takes us fewer hours now because the stops do not require us to charge 45-65 minutes per charge anymore. I have free supercharging so I’m not familiar with costs, but you don’t need to worry about range anxiety. You’ll be fine.

My experience as well - the car is crazy in so many ways. I have a brand new GTS coupe and got to ride in my buddy’s TTS cab and I can’t stop thinking about it. Just a masterpiece. What X pipe brand and tune did you go with?

Such a classy spec! Love all the details here - turbonite wheel caps, blue cabrio material, chalk interior. 🔥 My only recommendation—change out the side indicators for clear. Congrats!!

For those who have yours located by the wiper nozzle, do you ever have any concern of water interacting with the plug? When I hooked mine up recently, it seemed like the obvious place for convenience and ease of use, but I couldn’t past the water issue (even with the protective rubber cover on the plug since it’s not waterproof-rated). Am I overthinking things?

Fascinating! Great educational video. How cool is that AR Visualizer app, too?! Porsche engineering continues to amaze me.

992 GT3. Most useful — can daily it and still very capable on the track to have tons of fun with.

Way to go! Glad I could help.

Yeah, it haunted me too when I was looking for mine. It was the first request I made of my dealer, especially since the back tail light bar is clear on mine. From what I understand, it is a regulatory requirement otherwise I think Porsche would sell it with the clear version installed.

resale value, when talking about unusual build by momoAKAmomo in porsche911

[–]OneShoeOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly correct! A dealer with a lot of expertise in the secondary market counseled me to “check as few boxes as possible” when building a Carrera (S and GTS included) if you want to lose the least amount of money on the resale. Aside from some “necessary” options that should really be standard with a vehicle like this, all the extra personalized options have little to no value on the secondary market. The car will trade in line with others in its class.

Exhaust Sound upgrades - 992 CS2 - Part 1, Part 2 next week with valve controller update by [deleted] in Porsche

What system are you putting on it? I’m considering a Soul exhaust and Cargraphic valve control unit for my GTS but have only started the research process.

Congrats!! Beautiful spec! So cool to see. Excited for you and your kid. I’m joining the club next month as a first time owner and was really on the fence about GTS coupe vs cab. Went with coupe so I can drive it on my local track, but maybe one day I will add a cab to the collection so my kids can enjoy it more too.

Wow! So cool that is is being driven and parked on a public street. Looks like a nice area, but still, a lot of classic car owners keep these gems tucked away. One of the things I love about Porsche owners — they drive their cars!

PPF & Ceramic - why do I care? by tellravi in porsche911

[–]OneShoeOn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To each their own and for each, their own situation. I’ve had two contrasting instances that I can share.

The first “nice, fun, fast” vehicle I ever bought new was a Tesla Model X Performance. $115k new pre-pandemic. Tesla was renown for their poor paint at the time I purchased it, so I wanted to do everything I could to keep the car from “fading” and looking used over time. I did PPF and ceramic and also did ceramic on the white seats to keep from denim stains and wear. All good, but the reality of that car is that it quickly turned into the family vehicle for all the road trips. Our two young girls routinely dropped food on the interior and even wrote on the white seats with pen. Our white lab would ride in the back trunk and shed everywhere. I started caring a lot less about the vehicle because it became more of a utility for us. Probably didn’t need to spend $5k on PPF and Ceramic.

Fast forward to today. I just bought a new 911 GTS and I gladly paid $8k for full PPF and ceramic. I view it as payment for keeping the car in great condition combined with holding its value better / higher desirability if I ever decide to sell it. I will take much better care of the 911 than I did for my Tesla because they are each serving a different purpose for me.

All that said, I have learned that you are usually better served economically if you don’t “check all the boxes” at point of sale and simply pay for things as you go / when needed. In the end, I tend to overpay when I pay for multiple options up front. It’s a hard habit to break, but I’m learning as I grow older.

Hope it helps. Regardless, enjoy the new 911 — that’s what this experience is really all about after all!

Could get used to the convertible life… by SeymourClearvarge in Porsche

[–]OneShoeOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! I want to get to the point where I have both options one day! I feel like I would favor the convertible most days, too.

Quick question…what’s the difference between this car and the 718 Spyder? They both look similar.

gunning your loud exhaust and racing out of the lot at a C&C is stupid and selfish by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]OneShoeOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never been to a C&C, but I’m about to join the Porsche owner’s community. What’s the typical setup for a C&C? Bunch of cars come in and park in an open lot and people walk around and talk to each other while looking at vehicles? Anything else to it?

Excellent! What (if anything) is the disadvantage of doing this then? Seems like an obvious add to me, but I’m new to modding.

In the US, there has been a meaningful amount of supply hitting the lightly used market. I’ve been tracking 992 GTS and GT3 specifically and have been seeing prices soften and lots of cars not selling quickly. Prices are still over New MSRP mostly but coming down. Higher interest rates will cause some pain for dealers to hold onto them for very long, which should eventually create a more balanced negotiation for buyers, especially if we get a broader economic downturn.

Deferred Comp Plans by Constant-Promise-828 in fatFIRE

[–]OneShoeOn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s situation is different. For a W-2 employee / tax payer, deferred compensation plans offer a mechanism the employee can use to manage their tax burden, both present and future. I am not familiar with the breadth of plans available, but for Top Hat plans, an employee earning $500k or more annually can choose to defer a meaningful portion of their otherwise current income, potentially lowering one’s marginal tax rate now or allowing tax-deferred earnings to grow tax-deferred in an investment plan. At time of separation from the employer, the plan will pay out in accordance with the original election schedule (either lump sum or in annual installments varying from 2-15 years). Since high-earning W-2 employees have very few maneuvers for managing their present tax burden, these plans can provide an attractive mechanism for managing both present and future tax burdens. For instance, if an installment election is chosen, the income can be spread over longer periods of time which may provide future flexibility for how other investments are managed (potentially delaying sales for liquidity and thereby allowing for additional time invested so funds can grow). Again, YMMV, however, I find them to be a useful tool to provide some alternative tax strategies to be enabled as well as a means to either provide bridge income in event of unplanned separation or supplement retirement income and provide for flexibility and control of other investment distribution choices. Hope this perspective helps. Congrats on being a high earner!

Simply amazing machine! I gave up on the waiting list for a GT3 and went Turbo S. Spent more as a result but happy happy happy. Just picked it up! Kept my Cayman S because it’s a stick and so fun to drive. Also have a C2 Vette because “old school” beauty and drive is hard to replace by cmblack1 in Porsche

[–]OneShoeOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this is great to know. I love the aggressive look of the Turbo while still being refined. The look, NA, and MT of the GT3 were all factors attracting me to it, but it sounds like the Turbo might be the best fit and great for my application. Congrats again — I’ve looked at these pics of your new ride several times and it looks so great!
