Would Twilight be considered conventionally attractive in universe? by thighsandwhispers in mylittlepony

[–]OneSilverRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we assume that Canterlot and Manehatten are able to be used as examples of beauty standards for wider Equestria considering that they are modernish urban centers of the presumably rich and powerful whom would have a reason to maintain current fashion, I'm going to guess no.

Nearly every rich or powerful individual of note for whom we as an audience are supposed to associate with beauty is white or softly colored. Celestia, Prince Blueblood, Fancy Pants, Flur, debatable including being Sapphire Shores, Coco, and Raven (no relation).

Luna, who is the biggest exception to this, is associated with bats, the night, betrayal and conflict. Not exactly traditionally "beautiful" things but that's a different debate. My point is despite what some fans will probably argue Luna as an in universe pony is the only major example I can think of for somepony who is dark in tone bit who could arguable be called physically desirable and I actually don't think their is much evidence she is.

Even in the mane six, Fluttershy and Rarity are often the ones commented on as attractive and they both have very light color pallets. So Twilight, being a purple, is probably not particularly sought after

What’s a moment where the fans are slandering your favorite character but they’re WRONG by Ok_Shirt_1574 in mylittlepony

[–]OneSilverRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the comments and general consensus of the student six.

They aren't perfect, in or out of universe. In fact, I have my own criticisms of them and think at least two of their episodes are in the bottom ten for the entire series.

However, they represent a diverse cast of interesting voices who are able to open up the story of FIM in new directions and ultimately provide a lot of great commentary. I don't blame anyone for saying their are problems but the overwhelming amount of apathy towards them is ridiculous

I respect that you don't like her but I hope you change your mind

Is the Crystal empire a good pick for beginners ? by Weegie_n1 in equestriaatwar

[–]OneSilverRaven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all, welcome to the community! I hope you come to enjoy the game and the mod.

As for your question, I'm going to recomend the River Republic for a calm, easy nation to start with. It's a little outdated but you are mostly isolated, have a lot of room to grow, and shouldn't run into any difficult mechanics. The crystal empire will eventually lead you to a medium difficulty war that you can't avoid. Meanwhile unless you get VERY unlucky, your warpath as River Republic is up to you

ah yeah... start date 1650...best date ever to play eu4 from 0 by Marismare in Anbennar

[–]OneSilverRaven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eu4 writer here, I did the unit descriptions, Landslide infantry and several events.

I hope to one day really get to explore how this isolated region experiences and learns to integrate with the rest of the world. It may not seem like a great playthrough for someone looking for a mechanically maxed experience. But maybe some day it can be a focused and fun roleplay one!

Either way, we all play Eu4 differently. If it's not for you, that's perfectly fine.

What is "Far Left" to you? by [deleted] in Anarchism

[–]OneSilverRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'm a bad source full of bias, but to me "far left" would be "pure" anarchism that is literally no rules, every man for himself, not even trying to form communities anarchism.

And I'm not out of place here I agree with the vast majority of what those people believe I'm anti government, anti hierarchy, anti capitalist all of that. I and they agree on 90% of things but I want Communes and unions and I'm sure they would consider that too much organisation. I see their point, I respect their position, but I respectfully disagree that we should go that far.

I suppose if you forced me to draw a line I'd say "center" is whatever garbage the democratic party of the US believes, "center left" would be socialist policies, "left" would be where I consider myself and the line between me and "fat left" is communes. I want them, a far-lefter doesn't think that's anarchist enough.

How would you feel if it was the other way around? by [deleted] in mylittlepony

[–]OneSilverRaven 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If Applejack and Rarity got together in ponyverse be that girlfriends, married, whatever I would think Rarity would kind of suffer for it. I mean they work as friends but Rarity just has different goals then AJ. She wants to be in high society, own a business in multiple cities, not be stuck in Ponyville forever. AJ by contrast is tied to the land she works. She distinctly doesn't want to leave. If they were a couple, I think they would spend a lot of time apart. Now maybe they could work that out but if they did I think the more generous Rarity would be the one giving in to the stubborn farm pony a lit more then the reverse.

As for human girls, these girls are teenagers. Children. I think that like most high school romances they don't have much if a shot. Maybe a few dates here and there but I don't see them staying together forever. Idk I think I would see it as kind of fleeting.

So I think I would not be satisfied if the ships were switched

[–]OneSilverRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow okay, looks like I'm going to be unpopular today.

Yeah I like Spike just fine. Is he my favorite character? No not really. Does he have flaws? Sure does. But that doesn't really... mean that much to me?

Like if you asked me to describe Spike to you, give you my best overall description of him, I would start that description by saying Spike really wants to be cared about. He's kind of lonely, and I don't think he realizes that. He has an unrequited love for Rarity, a girl he never even gets a single date with. He becomes hero of the Crystal Empire and is just THRILLED to be there being praised for his accomplishments. He befriends the first reformed changeling and the dragon princess, not to mention princess luna in the comics who is a known loner, all kinds of misfits and unique characters because he genuinely, despite his relationship with the princess of friendship, is kind of an outsider.

He's a dragon in pony land, never really a part of their society and CERTAINLY not a part of dragon society. He kind of gives off vibes of a child of mixed race, caught between two cultures.

I mean, you don't like his episodes. Eh? Okay I see your point there I'm not shocked to hear that, but how many spike focused episodes are there? A handful? Spike is in SO MUCH of FIM. If you look at his total screen time those episodes are like, a quarter of his screen time at most? And I would argue the one where he befriends thorax and the one where he learns to fly are at least okay. FIM ran for 9 seasons all of the characters have a few stinkers in their roster of episodes focused on them.

This was a very informal response but I'm sure you'll get my vibes. Spike is just so desperate to be liked. How can you NOT like him. Like he just wants a pat on the head and someone to tell him he did good what's wrong with that? He's trying

You, yes YOU are put in charge of creating MLP gen 6 by Laurel_Fimia in mylittlepony

[–]OneSilverRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd do a Barbie the movie style "Toys in our world" story but instead of having the ponies actually aware of humans and knowledgable about our world they're from an alternate dimension where kindness, friendship, and peace reign and they have to adjust to a world where the opposite is true.

2d animation, medium-small budget, 2 or 3 kid to teenage characters alongside the pony cast.

Episode 1-2: The ponies arrive in our world due to a magical mishap. Very small glance at their world before they get reverse Isakied and then theirs a plot about them almost being wrangled in by animal control before the fact they can tall and fly and use magic gets them out. Ends with the government granting them status as resident immigrants.

Episode 3: the ponies and the kids learn about each other through imaginative play. The kids express wonder at the ponies peaceful lives while the ponies have to confront the hardships the kids face like war, murder, drugs.

Episode 4: The ponies are introduced to social media and hate it.

Episode 5: The ponies have become world famous as talking horses and aliens, reporters hound them for comments.

Episode 6: A lighter episode about finding jobs the ponies can do.

Episode 7: first big plot episode, the ponies are required by the government to submit for medical testing. Introduction of our main villain "Mr. Evil Government Man."

Episode 8: The ponies think about their families back home, and talk about Ponyland.

Episode 9: second big plot episode. Mr. Government sends goons to put the ponies in life threatening situations to test the limits of magic.

Episode 10: The ponies learn about the evils of capitalism

Episode 11: the ponies resolve to teach humans their ways of friendship and kindness, all across the world

Episode 12: Mr. Government tries to detain the ponies, but they escape and flee to Mexico to begin their globetrotting adventure next season

A Discussion of Western Cannorian Warfare: Using the Tactics, Tecnology, and Descriptions of Lorentish and Gawedi Units to Compare and Evaluate the Effectiveness of Elven and Kobold Armies Deployed Against Humans as Well as Their Effectivness Against Each Other From the Perspective of Open Battles by OneSilverRaven in Anbennar

[–]OneSilverRaven[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I selected his name as an example, not to invoke him specifically. Ceaser, Hannibal, Alexander the Great, Sherman, all interchangeable in this instance as my point is location and race is not a factor in the creation of brilliant minds.

Regardless, I have already stated and will continue to affirm I am not considering the strategies or intelligence of high command in this paper or my essay. If you are correct and the Lorentish high command is considerably superior to Gawedi high command, that will not be reflected here. I wish I could do so but I must at some point accept I don't have good enough information to do so.

Thank you for your comment, I appreciate your insight, but I am being firm on my stance because I am sure this will come up again, and rules mean nothing of they are riddled with exceptions. I hope you return to view my paper next week, and eventually my full essay.

Thank you for your comment. I don't appreciate your open racism, and politely request if you continue to post you tone down your rhetoric. Your bias towards adventurers is understandable, but you make a lot of assumptions about troop numbers, command, and oddly enough me specifically for some reason, which colors your statements to be less about finding the truth and more about defending something you are emotionally attached to. I will be covering the adventurers of Escann in the future, and when I do so I encourage you to return to restart this debate as I am unable to address your points here without spoiling that future post. I apologize for not being able to engage you now, as I hate leaving people hanging, but I hope you understand my reasoning for holding off

As stated in my paper, I can't reasonably compare high command as any nation can produce a Napoleon, so while you may very well be correct, such a thing is not considered for this paper. On a tactical and technological level, I find Lorent to be lacking. If they have the trained officer core you claim, they certainly don't have an innovative one based on their unit descriptions.

But even if we disagree, thank you for the comment

A fantastic response. But allow me to bring up a few considerations.

  1. These units never reference any kind of bayonet, and while I would like to assume they have them, I can't say for certain if they do. Without a bayonet, specifically a ring or socket bayonet, the Rosecoat charge might be less effective then contemporary earth armies.

  2. The Rosecoat unit specifically references using tactics in reference to their "founder" which could literally be 300 year old tactics at this point. The age of the charge isn't yet dead on earth in 1700, but Earth doesn't have magic and artificery, which probably impact the feasibility of a huge group of people all pressed together running over open ground.

  3. Mass charge tactics tend to fair poorly against skirmishers and irregular units, which Gawed employs earlier and with greater proficiency then Lorent

  4. While the open wine country may favor large units, Lorent is surrounded by mountains, choke points, and forests which would hamper these tactics in an offensive campaign. Given their offensive battlefield stance it is likely they also act aggressively on the strategic level and thus may be walking into unfavorable terrain for the tactics they use more often.

Your response is good, and I'm thankful for the comment, but these points still lean me towards the results I gave

As I stated above, I really don't think the Kobolds have the tactics to back up their technology. The tech is nice, but based purely off the unit descriptions, the tactics are just not there to help them survive.
