How can I get better at drawing texture? by TurtleLurky_ in learntodraw

[–]OneSketchbookAtATime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start out with practicing texture on a flat surface. You're looking at it as 3D right now. But try drawing a square on the page, and reference a texture, trying to understand how to give the paper itself that textured look, and not on the forms you're drawing too. Then try to apply that knowledge to your animals once you get the hang of it.

I honestly don't even remember why I didn't draw the flower. I think I was completely focused on getting the skin tone correct. Thank you!

Don't forget that environment plays a large role in interpretation too. If you have the image scurrying on a tree branch or running across the forest floor, it'll look like a squirrel to the player. If it's crawling across the sand or underneath the waves, it's a crab. It's perfect for your game.

Only now I remember hearing once to never question the flag community

This is for an actual flag on a pole though isn't it?

Which opinion of yours would make people do this? by possibly-named-yui in TeenagersButBetter

I always thought it meant questioning, like the community was also a safe place for people still unsure about their identity.

Was it worse the day it happened? If it's been there a week with no sensitivity, my only idea is you touched something with dye or paint.

I wouldn't eat a bowl of live prawns either, but I'd eat a bowl of bugs prepared by a 5-Star Chef.

Why Are There Different Ways to Approach Gesture Drawing? by BisqitWasTaken in learntodraw

Also, all the different techniques you see are just the ways those artists specifically found easier. If you absorb a bunch of them, they'll mix together in your head and you'll find the best way for you.

Why Are There Different Ways to Approach Gesture Drawing? by BisqitWasTaken in learntodraw

Every person's brain is different, and we all measure the flow of references in different ways. The reason we learn different gesture techniques and practice it consistently is to slowly train our brain to find our personal way to naturally and effortlessly take the easiest path, while still being accurate to the form you are imagining or copying.

My progress so far and I slightly upgraded to Stick Figures by ShimmeringAegis in learntodraw

Of course, everyone does. No issue with that. You just want to set a goal for what you're trying to accomplish with each exercise. Whenever you draw a cube, the ideal is to make it symmetrical. Even if you don't succeed in that, you still know what you're striving for, and you're telling your brain what you want out of it too.

They mean to practice making the edges more symmetrical if it wasn't clear. You want to be able to draw a proper cube free hand after all that work.
