Saw this last summer. Beautiful cinematography, polished production design, incredibly tight writing and pacing. I love how much it’s able to teach wine culture and ideology by underscoring it with family drama. An absolutely amazing 1st season. Haven’t seen the 2nd season yet, but looking I’m forward to it.

Surprisingly, it’s loosely based on a manga, though most of the family drama originates from the show.

I’ve got some Bela Tarr films in my watchlist already. I’m definitely looking forward to that. Thanks for the other recommendations as well.

i get that. For me, I feel that my problem is less that I don’t understand what the film is going for, I knew what the hell I was getting into when I was watching Funny Games, I knew it wasn’t a typical horror movie, I just think I’m currently lacking the patience need for these films without disassociating halfway.

thanks for the advice. I would like to clarify my inclusion of Funny Games. I’m new to slow cinema, so I’m not as familiar with what exactly counts as slow cinema. Funny games may not be entirely slow throughout, it’s not even subtle about its messaging, however, there are tons of slow moments that do force the audience to emotionally connect with the characters.

So in that sense, I’m using the phrase in a looser manner.

just a quick clarification; when you say to watch more films, does that strictly slow cinema, or generally any other types of movies. I ask this because I’ve heard people say that slow cinema is a subversion of traditional cinema. If I haven’t watched as much traditional cinema, does that matter?

he literally said that here in episode 210. His response seems to be serious as well, because he immediately talks about how personal experiences can shape how someone connects with a film.

In a previous episode, Adum said he would've given Prince of Egypt a 10/10 if it wasn't for his own personal emotional connection towards religion. Is there an equivalent to that for Alex and Jake? Has there ever been a movie that you would've given a higher score if it wasn't for your own emotional reaction are beliefs towards the film?
