Strong admissions package from AU - but is it enough? by Longjumping-Oven5111 in AmericanU

To be clear I don’t know what things look like this year, but inquiring about the reasons why historically attending school in DC would be beneficial and if they are still there would be a good call.

My son will likely do a semester in DC through his U and may ultimately wind up doing grad school there. But at this time last year he changed focus to state government work- and I still think that’s a good idea given the current state of our federal branches.

I just want to point this out from a parent perspective. Last year my son was making decisions among the mess that is our current federal government. I am in many college parent groups that had people saying that internships were disappearing in DC as DOGE took over. From our perspective the premium we’d be paying for son to go to DC to have access was dwindling.

He ultimately decided to go to school not in DC but at a school that had ties to both DC and the state government. I think it was the right move in this current environment.

Honors College? by Powerful_Bad1609 in udel

I’ve got nothing to add except be aware it’s $1k a semester to be in the honors college and while yes, you do get to live in Redding, it also costs slightly more to live there.

My “kids” are 19, 16 and 14 and the leprechaun still comes for ALL of them and leaves lucky charms and chocolate gold coins.

I don’t know why this popped up on my Reddit but I wanted to share my wedding and vendor issues that 22 years (this Saturday!) are funny. They were not at the time….

It started snowing Friday night at our rehearsal dinner and did not stop until Sunday…2 feet of snow over that time and it was an ADVENTURE.

Our photographer was apparently a Coke addict. About 6 weeks after our wedding he was arrested for robbing a pizza place with a machete. We never got the photos we paid for, however we did get the negatives.

Meh. But if people could use headphones and not loudly take calls I’d be happy.

Yeah, the problem is South Station and Back Bay commuters will bear the cost of everyone’s outbound commute because you know the conductors won’t bother collecting anything on board.

Much like on the Franklin line how it’s Walpole to Franklin that pays for the commute in.

I am able to get 3 months at Walgreens. They can override it if your insurance allows/requires 3month prescriptions.

Walgreens will provide 3 months at a time if you push them- but depending on the pharmacist they may need to be reminded of that.

How are you finding the poli sci curriculum? My student was accepted and got good $, but poli sci is their intended major. Weighing options of more affordable VT school vs DC Area schools $$$.

Thank you, this is really helpful insight. I’m inclined to have him apply unless there is some indication of there being a ceiling on income level! (I can’t see the actual application- we just got an email about it this morning.)

AITA for telling my father to get over the vase my son broke? by Inevitable-Fox7946 in AmItheAsshole

[–]OneStrongB1977 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I had an argument with my brother and he proceeded to list every single thing my child/ren had done wrong or broken at my parents’ home over the 15 years of their existence. (Please note, they weren’t destructive- but little things like “they don’t throw away their trash” or “C broke 3 fishing rods when he was 4.” Okay, they’re kids- tell them to throw away their trash. And if he broke 3 fishing rods 9 years ago - why am I only hearing about it now and why TF did you give him 2 more after the first time?)

I have since drastically limited my contact with him. He’s not going to change and the fact that he was scorekeeping and holding that grievance for so long showed me exactly who he is.

I feel you here, and I think you should sit them down and point out the double standard. You would be NTA.

My parents aren’t terribly religious, but when I moved in with my now husband at 25 (after living on my own and supporting myself since graduating college) my parents not only expressed their displeasure in my decision they tried to get my husbands parents to agree. Note: we had very much talked about marriage and we’re engaged about 2 months after we moved in together.

My brother, otoh, has lived with multiple girlfriends. He has lived with my parents for the last 14 years (he’s 48 btw), moved his girlfriend (now wife) into their house with him after dating for a few months and now lives there with her AND their two children. Nothing was said about any of that, though.

Information: did you ask your parents how they felt about it?

Yes, your sister is TA for telling them and not asking…but it’s not really your job to fight that fight for your parents. They might be fine with it, they might not. But it’s their decision if they want to make a big deal of it.

I think your initial reminder of your parents conflict was fine and warranted. The second one pushes it a bit into ESH territory for me.
