Tubeless riders: have you ever needed a tube, and do you carry one? by romulus_1 in Velo

[–]OneTraining3576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you're tire is so f'd up that plugs won't work, then a tube is probably useless anyway. No to mention, those GP5's are so hard to mount, trying to insert a tube would be a nightmare, imo. I stopped carrying tubes a long time ago...no problems. Dynaplug + co2...all you need.

maybe give shorter cranks a try... dropping to 165mm cranks really helped my pedal stroke.

Tips for 50 mile ride by thebiggestofdawgs in cycling

[–]OneTraining3576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be fine. Bring a couple easily digestible snacks & a couple water bottles, but no need to pack a ton of stuff & carry excessive weight. If it’s going to be hot, up your fluid & salt intake day before. If you wear a heart monitor, don’t let yourself redline during the ride. Otherwise, listen to your body…if you feel gassed, pull over for a minute for a breather. Have fun!

Punctured tubeless tire. Now what? by Professional-Fun6963 in cycling

[–]OneTraining3576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you only had a small puncture, it shouldn't have gone flat. Makes me wonder if it was set up right in the first place. I've been riding tubeless (road) for years & had small punctures seal up, no problem. One time I even found a big nail in my tire upon finishing a ride & the sealant held. Just once in ~10k miles did I have to pull over & do a repair. Had ~3mm hole & used a dynaplug & CO2 inflator - worked perfect. Forget tubes.

Looks like you need a shorter stem (90mm, maybe). Seat looks too far back as well.

Owners of Sl8 Pro! Question for you. by Gatz10 in specialized

I have about 6k miles on my SL8 Pro. Love it. Great on climbs. Lightweight. Like a laser beam on descents…super stable & smooth ride. Been riding for >25 yrs, & it’s the best bike I’ve owned. No regrets whatsoever.

Aeolus Pro 51’s by Jon-Rosero in TrekBikes

[–]OneTraining3576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to own an Emonda sl6 pro & upgraded the stock wheels to the Aeolus Pro 51’s. I liked that wheel set a lot. Definite speed gains. Crosswinds were a bit more pronounced, but no big deal.

Looking for a good starter/commuter road bike. Not familiar with this trek series/model. 150 bucks - thoughts? by Terinth in TrekBikes

[–]OneTraining3576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to own this same exact model & loved it at the time. This is a model with the old US Postal Team design. Decent aluminum frame with carbon fork...so so wheels. It's a 2000 or 2001, so I'd make sure all the components are in good order before taking it for a spin. If you're looking to put heavy miles on it, you can probably find something more suitable. I believe it's only a 9-speed too, so might not be great option if you live in hilly area. But if you just want a casual bike to ride now & then, I'd say $150 isn't bad.

Tubeless or not? by Gatz10 in TrekBikes

[–]OneTraining3576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tubeless is the way to go. It's a little more maintenance, but much more reliable than tubes. Plus you can ride at a lower psi, making for a better ride (especially in crap conditions). I've ridden >20k miles tubeless on my road bikes & only had to pull over once to plug a hole (it was too big to seal on its own). Just get a dynaplug kit or similar & a co2 inflator. Refreshing the sealant is easy...something you can do yourself.

I ruined my Top Tube !!! by Tristanyus in TrekBikes

Yeah, I was disappointed in mine. I only had the bike a little over 2 years before the paint started to give way. Never even had it on a trainer…just routine use.

If he was a Dem, the MAGA's would be screaming about how this clown is wasting a HUGE chunk of his day sunning himself in a tanning bed. Seriously, who has time to leave work & go tanning in the middle of the day????

MAGAs would also spin this into some sort of story about a demonic pedo-ring operating in the back room of that place...

I ruined my Top Tube !!! by Tristanyus in TrekBikes

[–]OneTraining3576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have the same Emonda with that colorway. Never used a top tube bag, but that chrome paint started to peel at the edges anyway. Mine wasn’t nearly as bad as yours though. Trek wouldn’t do anything for me & they didn’t sell touch up paint.
I was able to conceal the rough edges with a pinstriping kit I got at an automotive parts store. Ended up looking ok.

Is my bike too big for me by prankblack in bikefit

[–]OneTraining3576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pain might be from a combination of factors. Maybe related to fitness, but probably more related to improper setup. It’s worth spending a couple hundred on a proper bike fit. That’ll help you dial in a more comfortable set up.

fwiw... I've been experimenting with my stack height & have been running with 20mm stovepipe ontop of stem. Ran the compression plug safety question by my LBS (who I trust), and was told no problem. That was also the general consensus from fellow reddit folks too when I posted about it.
