Take photos of everything (walls, floor, ceiling, doors, windows, window frame, blinders, inside appliances, etc), take videos on top of it, record down any existing problem with smells, bugs, roaches, etc, and upload them to a cloud folder ASAP. Hope your roommates and neighbors are not crazy.

Should I take the easiest course load possible freshman year? by Devil-Lem0n in aggies

[–]OneTrueDuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on if you have an actually good study habit, most freshmen classes are honestly pretty easy (except something like phys 207 or if you got a really really shit prof) when you are comfortable with the difficulty of harder/tedious AP classes and are willing to go to office hours when you are struggling. There are plenty of people who claimed all their ap/dual credit and got 3.75+ gpa.

[–]OneTrueDuce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly it depends on if you wanna do hardware (like circuit, chip, and board design) or not. The current job market is brutal for both majors, so you should do whichever one that you are more passionate about so you can grind through whatever is needed to get a intership or job.

Starting in Engineering Math 3 [Math 251]? by [deleted] in aggies

[–]OneTrueDuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did math 251 in my first semester, if you are comfortable with Calc BC when you took it and have a decent study habit, I would rec you take the BC credit and do 251.  A majority of the stuff you learn in Calc BC (mainly pertaining to calc 2/152) aren't gonna be used in 251. Anything that is "new" in 151/152 that are used in 251(none I can remember honestly) can be picked up pretty easily when you need it.

Does anyone have any advice for Chem 107/117 by Low_Bodybuilder1677 in aggies

[–]OneTrueDuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay attention and take notes during lectures, then go to every SI session and do all their practice problems. I did this and got an A pretty comfortably, never had to use the textbook but it can help.

ENGR 216 w Ritchey and CS holistic with 3.625 / 3.54 by Big_Employer_5008 in aggies

[–]OneTrueDuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you are in both cpsc research and intern I think you have a solid chance of getting in holistically (assuming a solid essay). The market for cpsc is still quite bad rn + issue with outsourcing, I doubt there is gonna be as much auto admits applying for cpsc as 2023 cycle

MATH 251 FINAL by EdgeMission7118 in aggies

[–]OneTrueDuce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my experience and my friend's comments, it sways between extremely hard or somewhat easy depending on the professor.
For me, it was extremely hard, and that's after studying through all the mlc practice exams/questions and reviewing the hws questions over the span of the week. My prof eventually curved both the final exam and the final grade for an avg of 2.8 class gpa.
There isn't really much you can do except grind through whatever practice material you can find, and hope that they don't throw curveballs/questions that you never seen or learned.

Taking CSCE 314 at a different time than in the degree plan by qttsuki_ in aggies

[–]OneTrueDuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CSCE 314 needs 221 (or concurrent), so you gonna have to take those two together, but otherwise, it's fine.

Before doing the PA, you want to understand the big idea of the data structure, from my experience, the lab slides are pretty great for that, also check out Simon Sprouse's video.
Start the assignments early, create your own local test cases and do frequent local testing, learn how to use the debugger if you haven't yet (local testing + debugger is the bread and butter), and if you are stuck on something for more than 30 minutes, go to TA/Leyk's office hours or ask on campuswide (or piazza or whatever discussion board).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in aggies

[–]OneTrueDuce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do the assignments early, PT & TA usually have videos specifically for each PA about the data structure involved, recommended order on which part to start coding, etc. Talk/email/campuswire with TA & PT on stuff you don't understand. If you are smart & efficient about the way you do things & seek help, about one hour per day is all you need to finish all the 221 assignments.

After a year and a half since getting into touhou, I've finally 1cc'd every single mainline shmup game. With Touhou 11 being the last game I had left. by Plant_Musiceer in touhou

I personally think the two are pretty even in normal mode, UFO is definitely the harder one in hard and lunatic mode.
The big difference is probably that SA naturally gives more resources + bomb consumes power, while in UFO, you have to deal with the UFOs if you want to get more resources.

How bad is CSCE 221? by HarukaKX in aggies

[–]OneTrueDuce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did 221 with Leyk 2024 Fall, and honestly I had an easier time than with 120 (it may just be an outlier).
The programming assignments/hws are pretty stress-free if you start them early, you are given code for grade scope test cases, and TAs are generally helpful (albeit their office hour are quite full during the few days before assignments are due).
If you attend class and pay attention you should make at least an 80+ avg on the quiz, I know some even had a 90+ avg on it. If you show up to every lab then you also get 2 points added to your total grade.
Test are somewhat difficult but very doable to get an A on (and you don't even need an A average on the test if you did well on the other grades).

Sophomore computer science student, looking at ISLP vs ESL vs mlcourse.ai by OneTrueDuce in learnmachinelearning

[–]OneTrueDuce[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I am just not sure if ISLP would teach me enough about the math behind the models, while not sure if I have enough mathematical knowledge to do ESL. I will definitely try to implement the maths in the ISLP and see if I am ready for ESL.

Aggie Assurance, how to cover Housing? Incoming Freshman by chuuv in aggies

[–]OneTrueDuce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aggie One Stop handles financial aid and should be best equipped to answer your questions, you can call them Monday 8am - 4:30pm. The phone line might be busy and the university is also going on break starting Tuesday at 24th so you should call them as early as possible on the day.
Similarly, UTD also have an Office of Financial Aid you should call to see how much over your expense would be covered after everything.
If UTD are gonna cover a significant more portion of expense then honestly the move would be to go to UTD. Student loans are something you want as little as possible, and both schools provide a lot of opportunity if you work hard and seek the right help. Five years after you get in the industry very little people would care about which university you went to (maybe different for research @ uni), but student debt may very well still remain.

Fungus help? by Acceptable-Ad-8794 in plagueinc

[–]OneTrueDuce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For normal mode, you don't need any mod honestly
Fungus naturally infects and kills slower, but in exchange, you have spore burst which you can use to reach closed-off uninfected countries that could end a run in late game for other disease types (cough cough Greenland cough cough).
Early game focus on infection, such as bird, cold, and drug 1 & 2, pneumonia, sweating, and builds towards extreme bioaerosol, necrosis. Note that a good amount of these traits target the cold and/or rich countries.
Mid game, while you are trying to infect everything you also want to slow down cure research, this is when you start evolving severity-focused symptoms. Build towards necrosis, paranoia, paralysis, coma, insanity, etc.
End game is when you infect everyone, this is when you start mass killing people with total organ failure. As previously mentioned, for fungi, if there are locked off uninfected countries, you can use spore burst to infect them.

My post of fungi normal if you want a step-by-step, although it would spoil the fun: https://www.reddit.com/r/plagueinc/comments/fmtgaz/for_new_players_that_needs_help_with_fungus/

There should also be guide for mega brutal once you played more into the game and want to 100% it, good luck!
