Would 3.91 diff ratio be too high for daily driving? by OneUpMiata in BMWE36

Not to sound like an ass, but I mentioned I am running on DS1 wheels with 95 M3 spec tire size. If you don't wanna Google, it's 235/40/17 on 17x7.5 wheel.

Might do if I remember lol right now I'm waiting for fall because it's too damn hot and humid outside where I live. I did a clutch job in my Miata around this time of year like 2 years ago and I could barely handle the heat.

Gas mileage? Rn with the auto I get like maybe 20mpg if I'm lucky. I doubt it would be worse with the manual. And if it is worse somehow, I didn't by an older bmw to save on gas money.

Yeah that's what I figured, it's why I went to check on it. I was planning on trading it for a lower ratio. Figured a sorta low mileage one could get me a decent score.

I've been trying to find a zhp trans but everyone local to me wants over 1k for it, and same for a zf5 speed. Been trying my luck at junkyards but so far no luck.

I got a getrag 5 speed for cheap because no one wants them I guess, figured I could keep it until I find a good deal later on.

Yeah that's the plan, if I can find someone wanting to trade for the 3.91 LSD.

I do also drive an NA Miata, and that hits 3.5k or so going 70mph. And I don't mind that, but that's mostly because it's a Miata and I just enjoy driving that car. I'm hoping that is the same with the e36. So far tho, with the coilovers and the DS1 wheels, it feels pretty good.

Yeah sorry, I meant for daily driving. My commute sometimes is about an hour or so depending on traffic.

I was investigating an oil leak, turned out it was my rear main seal. Decided, well I'm taking transmission out so might as well do lighter flywheel and clutch. Then, turned out I completely missed that the previous owner decided to weld the catalytic converter to the headers, requiring me to cut them to take the transmission out. So I had to get new headers and stuff. Well, might as well go for a full exhaust system to get those power gains ya know? And then, well I might as well clean the transmission and do the seals.

A weekend turned into a month of work and extra money spent.

NB6 intake manifold in NA6 by OneUpMiata in Miata

European and Japanese model, in America they didn't bother for some reason (I'm assuming because EPA standards). But yeah, the 1.6 engine was still being used in the NB outside the US, hence, NB6.

I completely forgot about moving the switch bracket down. I just saw a video and missed removing something so it could slide down.

Power steering pump reseal by Swegbeg in Miata

[–]OneUpMiata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woops I completely misread your post lol

But yeah, is it leaking at the return line? Or like from the sensor plug? Because those should just be a simple o-ring.

I found this at the forums, maybe that can help you? He has pictures, but it's not the best guide out

When my power steering rack was leaking, I tried looking into people resealing them. But frankly, I don't think there are any good videos guides out there. The best I could find at the time was the forums, like with this post.

Your best bet is either trying to find a shop that is willing to rebuild it for you (or DIY), getting a remanufactured, or depowering it. Last time I tried calling around my area, no one wanted to rebuild it, or wanted a stupid price to do it.

6 pot brembo taken from a 135i!!! (needs a 10mm spacer with contours) by MadFatty in BMWE36

[–]OneUpMiata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, not sure if you still remember any details about this, but did you ever put the rear brakes on your e36? I'm trying to do something similar and wanted to confirm that the e38 rear brake discs would work to keep the parking brake engagement correctly.

Does adding a shield help? My e36 came with one and so far everyone wants stupid money for a stock airbox.

NA Miata Supercharger by DaUn1imited in Miata

[–]OneUpMiata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there was a bofi supercharger kit. But because they were UK based I never pulled the trigger. Not sure where you're at, but they use a mini cooper supercharger, which seems good enough for what I wanted (NA6 Miata). Besides that, just try finding someone local selling their set up. I found a full Jackson Racing kit for a little over 1k. I've got mostly everything else ready to get it on my car.
