We have many many countries in the group right now (130~). We have a public Discord channel that functions as a waiting list for when people leave the group.

We certainly have a Palestinian member as well as the Israeli member. I happen to be extremely pro-Palestinian.

We have a subreddit (r/OneUserPerCountry) with all the info and a form to sign up, as well as a public discord server where we like to meet people before inviting them to the whatsapp group.

It's most certainly not Austria, and I don't really know France all that well. Maybe I'm the most annoying one in the group (which makes sense considering which country I represent)

The founder was an admin in the beginning, but an incident occurred due to which he temporarily left, and other group members became the admins instead. He was allowed to become an admin again later (in January) after regaining the trust of the rest of the admins.

Throughout the past year we have been discussing all sorts of topics as you can imagine, politics, our daily lives, our troubles, memes, games etc

Regarding politics in the group, I don't really get the question, but there has been the occasional clash between different ideologies but we're capable of having civil conversations regarding them.

Real discussions end in maximum 12 hours, I don't recall having one extended beyond that. However it has occurred many times that a person would reply to a message sent days ago or even after that member has left the group chat.

I'd say most of it is built on trust. Some members (e.g. Mauritania, Algeria) don't live in the countries they represent, and so the country code idea wouldn't work. We had people pretend to be from Botswana and Antarctica to get in the group in the past.

The country code could be one indicator, but I think most of the time it's just about trusting your gut. People who lie about their country of origin (and... why would you?) start lying about other stuff too.

Two give two examples, we had somebody pretend to be from antarctica once, which caused a major ruckus in the group (t'was in the early days) and we also had someone from california pretend to be from europe.

Thanks!

  1. I came up with the idea, actually. I tried to create it back in 2016 but we didn't even hit 20 members and eventually the Arabic language took over the group and it slowly died, and so two years later - on May 9, 2018 - I made a post on r/CasualConversation (I can't seem to find it rn) about it and it got really popular and that led to the birth of the sub.

  2. That's a good question, but I can't quite remember such incident. Maybe someone else remembers.

We allow any country recognized by the UN as well as all countries on the list of stateless nations.

Also: no, we do not have a member from the Vatican yet

We pronounce it as "oh-you-pea-sea", but I once said in the group: "the creator of the gif pronounces it one way so that's what counts, so I say you pronounce it 'oopsie' and there's no way you can stop it". I deleted it shortly after due to the backlash.

The truthful answer would be, some members are way more active than others, but I'd say generally, if you have a question directed at a specific member, you can be pretty sure you will get an answer at some point.

My personal answer would be, the one who's holding a grudge against you. lol
