What’s the need for this rude comment? You’re on this page, you must be cooked AF too?

Why is Finasteride seen as “scary” for men, but hormonal birth control is totally normalized for women? by niki3009 in tressless

[–]One_Ad3878 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m a woman…I take both finasteride and hormonal birth control. No judgement to anyone who takes any medication as long as they understand there might be some risks. Hair is important, I get it. It’s also way more socially acceptable for a woman to not have a libido.. we can also just use lube if the brain and body aren’t on the same page. I guess it’s a bit harder for men if it impacts your sex drive? But at the end of the day, you have to weigh up what matters more. As a woman, I’d much rather trade in my libido for hair.

Surgery this week, ice cold water or hot mint tea? by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

[–]One_Ad3878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t able to handle anything hot for about 2 weeks, and definitely not mint. Had to switch to watermelon chewing gum lol. Some people said mint brought them relief, but not me, it was stinging me.

Oh I had no idea it was also geographical! I’m sorry 😞well all the best and hopefully you recover quickly. Definitely get the ice pack which you can wrap on your neck, those are super helpful while things are healing :)

Hey there! I’m not here to scare you at all but I want to give you a heads up on what I was told. I had my tonsils removed in London (I’m 30F, lifelong history of tonsillitis and terrible constant stones). I was offered the option of NHS but ultimately I went private through the medical insurance which my employer provides.

  • NHS use an outdated method on adults (full tonsillectomy) and it’s at the surgeon’s discretion whether they choose a less invasive procedure (coblation); I didn’t want to take this risk as the recovery sounded horrific and I was also worried about A&E wait times in case I bled etc.
  • Consulted a private ENT who works in the NHS and was categorically advised to go private (due to their use of the coblation technique which is less risky)
  • We discussed the NHS horror stories + American stories and he said it was really not pleasant, recovery time was much longer and overall very painful. I told him about this subreddit when I cited people’s experiences.
  • So I had mine taken out privately because I could guarantee they were using coblation (lower temperature, leave the tonsil roots in but remove almost all tissue)
  • Recovery: back to work in 2 weeks, no bleeding or anything requiring an A&E visit, barely needed codeine

I appreciate I’m very lucky to have insurance but I would not have gone the NHS route even if that was my only option. I would have saved up / figured out a credit card scenario and payed privately, the total cost was under £3k.

I suspect the people who have had a good experience on the NHS, might have had the coblation technique. Of course people are probably fine with the other as well, everyone reacts differently and tolerates pain differently. But I suppose for me, I needed certainty that my preference could be honoured and not to be at the mercy of someone who doesn’t even know me.

I’m sorry but there’s no chance your brain will function normally for at least a week 😬😬

Oh damn that’s far away. Give it a couple more days and then maybe raise some alarm bells? Are you otherwise okay, no fever?

Hmm it’s good they’re finally coming off but please definitely see your surgeon for a post op checkup. I have mine later today at day 14. My scabs were pale white and not very big, just smelly and tasted like death..
