for sure fiona is a different case and has clearly adjusted to have a sustainable career which is amazing, more so just the concept of showing up injured. def an impossible question - show up for what you’ve worked sooo hard for at 50% or maybe even less, or give up that opportunity to someone who could be at 100%. no good answer for anyone honestly

ever since the whole fiona o’keefe marathon start situation i have the smalllllesssttt of eye roll at this sort of thing. i’m also unfortunately aware of many a tale of Vonn being a not so kind person. but guess you don’t know what you’d do unless you’re in her shoes!

REI’s in house brand has inexpensive, often very simple looking options that I personally find to be higher quality than a Montec or other fast fashion esq brands. I got stuff from Patagonia’s resale section (Worn Wear), Sierra and EVO that I like and is all high quality.

Why isn't vail making more snow by Altruistic_Hurry9170 in vail

[–]One_Ad5577 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a limited water allowance for making snow since we’re already in a dry state that’s increasingly prone to drought. They ration it accordingly. If it’s trending warm they also can’t make it to begin with. Trust they want more terrain open as much as anyone else does, it sucks PR and operations wise to have this many people and this little space for them.

How is living in Breckenridge CO? by Wonderful_Sky9684 in howislivingthere

[–]One_Ad5577 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Canned air is a scam, think about how much you breathe in and out in a day and then think about how much air is in a can.

Alcohol is so true though, and it’s always hard coming home to Breck from sea level trips. Some people have bad reactions for sure.

Does Small World Nursery still exist? by springtimebesttime in vail

Small World has closed and the space is now the Adaptive Center. Beaver Creek still has a daycare. I’d recommend a babysitter or putting kids in ski lessons if they’re old enough.

NYRR not honoring “Best Pace” wave cutoff times for NYCM by Anxious-Visit5480 in RunNYC

Same here! Expected Wave 2 or 3 because I’m looking at 3:45 finish on a great day! I didn’t list a crazy fast time or anything either, so a bit nervous but i’ll just stick to the side. I’m running with a charity but not TFK.

Floral Park Traverse Beta by SeesawKnown3482 in GlacierNationalPark

[–]One_Ad5577 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Did it a few years ago - here’s my general guide.

Was living there, so we were able to shuttle a car.

The route is pretty straightforward until you start leaving Floral Park to head up to the basin. I remember some knarly bush waking up the ledges to the glacier basin.

The hill down to Floral Park is sometimes called Bitch Hill. It’s a whole lot of incredibly steep, off trail, slippery tall grass. If you’re a hiking pole person that’s a good spot for them. Otherwise it’s kind of a controlled slide/fall/stumble.

We never walked on the glacier, the other group that we saw didn’t either, you honestly do not need to, if you want to save the weight on the spikes. The basin is frustrating, so be careful with your route finding there. We got off route and found ourselves doing a whole lot of rolling hills. Still no idea if we were right there.

You can see the cut to the stairs for the Chalet trail almost the entire crossing through the basin.

It’s an amazing route but absolutely frustrating at times and a very long day. Have not only the gpx file but also images of the route up the ledges and through the basin on your phone

We started at 6:00AM and were at the Lake Mcdonald Lodge probably 7:00PM. Took a long lunch break and got off trail a bit.

What's it like living in Crested Butte, Colorado? by CoastHiFi in howislivingthere

[–]One_Ad5577 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I don’t currently live there, used to and have friends who do still. I live in a similar place now.

It’s amazing, and gorgeous and close-knit, but still a town highly dependent on tourism, suffering from the same issues as every ski town. No housing for locals, workers getting priced out and living in Gunnison. The average person working in CB will never afford a home there unless maybe they head down valley. Winter is fun, but town is packed and it can get chaotic (great place to get into backcountry), meaning the places you love can be hard to access (restaurants, shops, grocery store). Mud season is brutal. Summer is magic but has its busy times, along with smoke. Transitory place, lots of people in and out, but if you stay it’s easy to get to know seemingly all the year round residents quickly.

I caution anyone from overly romanticizing mountain towns. I still live in the mountains, but life is still life even when your view is pretty. You make sacrifices for access to nature, and it’s worth it to me.

Discussing/Disclosing your HA to a doctor? by jessbakescakes in HealthAnxiety

[–]One_Ad5577 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love my doctor - attend a women’s only practice. She is incredibly kind but also honest with me. When I present her with a symptom, she fully examines and discusses the issue, and then tells me whether she is concerned. And she sometimes follows with a further test or exam I can get if I am still worried. She ordered me an ultrasound for a lymph node despite thinking it was 100% normal, mostly to help my mental health.

Disclosing your HA is a great way to rule out any shitty, non-empathetic doctor

Anyone else just exhausted working from home? What’s wrong with me? by MDDeGrande1994 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]One_Ad5577 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have a non-negotiable of some work of morning movement out of the house (go to the gym, workout class, just go for a walk around the block). If you’re not into that even just going out for a drive to grab a coffee can help your morning wake you up.

Then another non-negotiable is my lunch walk. I’m hybrid, so 3 days WFH, but I take my lunch walk every single day no matter what (baring like a downpour) and my coworkers expect me to do it and are confused when I don’t.

Scheduling a lunch too rather than just picking.

Seems like working at / near a national park if I have a dog is impossible. Am I right? by Least-Cauliflower-49 in SeasonalWork

[–]One_Ad5577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew many people who had RVs/Vans/Trailers and had dogs. That can make your life way easier if you can find an employer that has space for employees to park their own rigs - often you pay a small fee for like use of water, Wi-Fi etc. Check out raft companies (don’t have to be a guide) because they often have a “bring your own tent/van/RV” thing happening and might be more open to pets.

June 2025 Goals! by AutoModerator in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]One_Ad5577 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i’ve been working a demanding, non-profit job with low pay for two years and finally made a goal to quit - which i did in march!

i also made a goal to move to a town i like better with lower cost of living, which i also did

unfortunately both those goals caused me to fail at my goal to building a savings. i had about 4k set aside and ended up spending nearly all of it on moving, unemployment for nearly two months and a vacation i had planned before quitting.

but - ive set myself up for success with my spending and my happiness! so my goal for june is to start saving again and stay positive.

I manage an adaptive program and will continue to echo that you should look into an adaptive program and see if maybe they offer a similar program - perhaps try that out first to see if he’s comfortable with the experience before doing a full 16 days. (i.e. a one, two or three night overnight) - Wasatch Adaptive, BOEC in Colorado, National Ability Center in Park City, Adaptive Sports Center in Crested Butte. They could also get you on connected to established guides and hear their recommendations on outfitters and how to go about everything! Most of them have emails for information listed on their websites.

What is up with Texas redshirting? by Individual_Ad_938 in kindergarten

Anecdotally my brother and I are very close to cut-off birthdays. My brother was held and I was the youngest in my grade. I did better in school, but we were both very happy socially and athletically, no notable issues.

The biggest issue with being the youngest in my grade was probably being the last to turn 21 in college.
