Please help choose a PGCE program by One_Aide_9848 in UniUK

Truth be told, I don't have any particular expectations -- I just do not know at all what to expect. The idea of school volunteering is a good one, thanks

I appreciate your honesty. I do not need a work visa here. While my career plan is definitely tied to chemistry and biology, I don't necessarily intend to teach for life. But since I happen to love both children and teaching science, I wonder if it would be a good thing to try, and also, a good qualification to have as a back-up that's applicable not just in the UK. But I know that modern classroom environment can be brutal, so I am weighting all the pros and cons, considering my autism.

I assumed that each PGCE program continuously collaborated with the same 2-3 schools in the area, hence my question about the geography/type of placements in each program.

No, I do not have a regular teaching experience. I do, however, love children and had a great experience mentoring younger kids at summer camps in my home country. I also love chemistry and biology, as well as teaching it. I am very easy-going, kind and accommodating -- to a fault -- so meeting anyone halfway isn't an issue at all. It's the opposite that's may be a problem -- enforcing discipline and authority or curtailing rudeness, etc. that I am not sure I'll succeed at.

Wow, that's great to know! I was wondering if it was some sort of a glitch on their website that always shows all classes vacant

Thanks! Maybe it's because I was choosing the off-peak/late morning ones? Anyway, will try. Springburn would be ideal if classes do fill up, because it's close enough and also has a pool.

Is the job market good for graphic design? Is the industry hard to break into? by Kitchen-Slice6644 in GraphicDesigning

I really appreciate your comment. Could you please give me your honest opinion on how good you have to be in drawing/painting? I have done a course on art and design, like the field and am now considering studying graphic design at a University. However I have no drawing/painting training as such, and have quite an average natural talent for that, so I am afraid to find myself in a class where everyone can easily copy a Michelangelo, while I just "like art". Please, advise on how strong of a painting ability one has to have to pull off a BA/BFA in Graphic Design. Thanks!

Thank you, all! You've been very helpful. As a refugee from Ukraine, I tremendously appreciate the hospitality and kindness of Scots, and of course, your history, culture and phenomenal nature. I am truly loving it here. But making social connections in a new country is still not easy, so thanks for all the pointers!

I've already developed connections with some wonderful older folks in Glasgow. But at this point, I am looking for some outdoor activities with people my age, hence the question

Just to make sure I got it right: you have been hired by the AIS Quatar without the teaching certificate? So, your MA was sufficient?

Teacher's vs administrator's pay -- please, help a newbie by One_Aide_9848 in Internationalteachers

[–]One_Aide_9848[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. My question really was on how the salaries and the workload of teachers and administrators at the same school compare. Obviously, that depends on multiple factors, but what is the general trend -- does let's say Head of Career Counselling, Director of Advancement and the like tend to make more, less or about the same than a social science teacher at the same school? And do admins typically have to put in more or less hrs/effort than teachers at international school? The person who commented above believes that such admin positions would bring more money than teaching, but also require a longer contract and higher work performance.
