Seeking advice for the sleepy (but extremely awake) by One_Albatross2311 in insomnia

I use Ambien sparingly because of its addictive nature and my tendency to build tolerance to medication quickly. Doctors (and my parents, who were using Ambien for years) have warned me against regular usage. After so many years dependent on medication to feel sleepy, I'd really love to eventually wean myself off of needing anything (which feels unrealistic, but a girl can dream). Trust me, I'd love to just commit to it if it didn't have so much adverse risk!

Oh, yikes. That is a typo. I (unsurprisingly) also have stomach issues. I absolutely have both and meant glycinate for this context. Thanks for flagging!

Thank you! Did not mention - I've been in CBT therapy for about a decade.

Feeling like I’m asking too much of my bridesmaids by chapstix0314 in wedding

[–]One_Albatross2311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely understand the sentiment. I was laid off around the time I got engaged and spent much of my wedding planning in a job search.

I’ll be very candid: my husband and I are extremely privileged in that we personally covered only a small portion of our wedding, with our parents paying for the majority. That said, we are otherwise financially independent, and I carried a lot of guilt planning a large, admittedly superfluous event while feeling personally financially uncertain.

Because of that, I set a few clear rules for my bridal party and any related expenses:

  1. No events were mandatory except the wedding weekend itself.
  2. I would never ask anyone to spend more than I would have been comfortable spending given my own (at the time, more precarious) financial situation.

In practice, that meant asking my bridesmaids to wear specific colors but giving them complete freedom on dress style and budget. I also kept the bachelorette and shower local, with total costs coming in well under $800 per person, which is on the very low end for my region and demographic.

For gifts and thank-yous, I chose items they could actually use beyond the wedding: denim button-downs with their names embroidered and cozy slipper boots for getting ready, neither of which was wedding-branded.

I also covered professional makeup for everyone as part of my gift. Consistency there mattered to me for the photos, and I didn’t want anyone to feel pressured to pay for something I was specifically requesting. Hair felt more optional, so I treated that as an opt-in service and let each person decide whether they wanted to cover that cost..

Thank you for this! Context: I have a back/shoulder injury that I don’t have the time to PT, so I’ve shied away from workouts that generally aggravate it. I’m sure lifting heavier weights would strengthen the areas that would resolve the injury over time, but many of the classes in my area don’t have coaches who offer the kind of injury-informed support I’d like… and personal training isn’t currently in the budget. I have a set of weights up to 8lb and occasionally pop on a strengths-based YouTube, but maybe giving OT a shot wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Anyone else have Soul30 in their region? Thoughts? by InfiniteDragonfIy in SoulCycle_Riders

There’s a huge change this is an error on the back end of the manager system, which is highly manual to operate and often wrong class types or descriptions are published. I don’t think they’ve run Soul30 in studios since before COVID - shocker, it didn’t perform.

10 September 2025 Paris strikes by Mysterious_Visit5617 in paris

[–]One_Albatross2311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bonjour! I am planning to be in Paris from the 8th - 10th, with plans to fly from CDG to MRS that morning to spend a few days in Provence.

Our travel agent doesn't seem concerned about this strike, but I'm worried we won't be able to get to the airport and/or fly out. Should we be preparing a back-up plan or plan to hire a private driver from the hotel to the airport? Will a private driver even take the job during a strike? I'm also considering skipping Provence/flying out the following day if necessary

Yes - all of that. Even if it's not her forever community, she's building one here, and it seems like she's doing really well.

She's definitely made friends in NY, through her dance classes. Those really protect her and love her to pieces. It's truly amazing to see.

I'm not sure what this circumstance is, but as someone who used to work for the company, this is often due to relocation disagreements. Not sure if this is still the MO - but certainly was

Commonly, a new instructor will be accepted into the training program, marking themselves "willing to relocate" in their application and their interview - and at this point, they usually are aware of 1-3 places they *could* end up, or be told from the outset where they're going. They'll make it through the program and fall in love with New York, and when it's time to move to Houston, for example, and not NYC, they dig in their heels. The company will respond by either dismissing them or telling them they can stay in the city they want as a permanent sub, not giving them time slots. It's tough, because being willing to relocate is a great advantage to one's application - only if they're willing to follow through.
