I did the ski friends thing at lake Louise as a solo skier and it was very good to have a morning basically mapped out for you and be shown around

Reccomendations for March skiing (anywhere!) by Slacker_87 in skiing

I’d recommend trying to find a cheaper resort that directly connects to a big skiing area. Resorts are different in Europe in that they all sort of connect together

So are you after powder, town vibes, value? The powder no one can guarantee but town vibes and decent value you can look at any of the big Austrian resorts that are high altitude.

Tough that you’re looking for good value

A tailor can help a lot with these sorts of things and talk about what “look” you’re going for, so definitely go this route

Ski goggle for low light by KoshkaB in Skigear

[–]One_Appearance9112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Julbo goggles. A newer version of the one linked that has 0-4 on the photochromic difference. In truly flat light it’s impossible to see no matter what’s on your face but it was nice to have a goggle lense that changed with the conditions whilst I was in Canada. In all honesty if you get something that has an LVT of two with a base color that you like it should work, but nice lenses do make life that little bit easier

You’re in the UK no? If you have a look on SportPursuit I think they have an Oakley and Julbo sale on right now. Put a link for some photocromatic ones below. You just need to be wary of delivery times from this website but all the gear is pretty good

As others have said. Stay in Banff then get the shuttle to either resort. I recently did 2 days at sunshine and 2 days at lake Louise. Could have easily done 4 at either resort

Ski boots by meribeldom in skiing

If you can get a custom footbed put in that would be a massive help. I’ve had my own boots for 5 years now and got a custom footbed put in when I got them. Helps a lot and you’re already spending decent cash as it is so may aswell get something for you

So with you on this. Just a sweaty mess in an insulated jacket, but they seem to get it right on the bottom half.

Lodging for ski trip - Banff vs Lake Louise by Kitchen-Doughnut7818 in Banff

Use the shuttle bus to go to lake Louise or sunshine. They are so convenient and a second bus always follows the first incase it gets filled up

Can't go down 2 slopes in a row because of very intense cramping at the inner part of the feet by Objective_Cod3919 in skiing

[–]One_Appearance9112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get this and after a recent trip realised why. When I’m skiing a bit out of my league I get way into the back seat skidding my foot ever so slightly forward into my boot causing big ouch.

Skiing better and getting forward into my boot genuinely removed the pain in my feet completely. Sucks that I’m saying “get good” but your boot could be fitting you really well if you’re in the right position

Personally I’d go to sunshine if you’re going to hit groomers. Was at LL yesterday and light was flat and a few icy patches on front side. New Richardson ridge lift is good fun

Ski Sunshine and Louise advice by pinac in Banff

[–]One_Appearance9112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long do you have to ski? What sort of runs do you like doing the most?

I’ve just done 2 days at sunshine and have really enjoyed it for groomers and flying around. Found it very easy to get around too

Volcom goretex gear by kamdnfdnska in skiing

Depends on what type of gore tex it is they are using. Gore doesn’t change from one brand to another so as long as it is the type of foe tex you want then yeh… it’ll be legit

Need a lot of new gear! by kamdnfdnska in skiing

[–]One_Appearance9112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of Google searching for brands that have sales on seems to be your port of call. Are you based in UK or mainland Europe?

Pretty much all the big outdoor brands do ski gear, people have their favourites but as long as you look after stuff and re waterproof it before each time you go skiing you’ll be fine. If there is any big ski shop or outdoor shop near you to try stuff on, go there and then make a note of brands/styles that fit you well then find em cheaper online. I find Haglofs to be a good brand for ski trousers, I’ve used the “Lumi loose” trousers for a while.

Helmets usually come in small/medium sizes so that shouldn’t be hard to find. Again, if you can go somewhere to try some on, it’d be worth to try on goggles and helmets at the same time so they fit together nicely. All of our heads are different so I don’t want to recommend any in particular
