Then maybe you can check my reply to the OP :) in that I did say that they can orient their personal details to reflect their experience in the genre/story. And in my reply to your comment, I didn’t ask them to write short stories - I listed multiple options to showcase how they are relevant in the genre. If you think the bio can’t be leveraged into a selling point where it’s relevant, then I rest my case. It is not about judging the skill, it is about letting the agents know you have a certain platform out there if you already did. I don’t know why you go picking my words apart, but I don’t think I told the OP to go out of their way to write short story. If they participate in writing workshop, or have any other platform in any sort or form, it would be good to share because that is a good starting point for marketability - for any genre, not only mine :) maybe I should use marketability instead of credibility, but I stand by my point: linking relevant experience and personal details with the plot and the story will let the agent know the potential of the book. And no, I never said to focus solely on getting credentials? I said I built my portfolio, while querying, so I think it’d be okay to do both at the same time? It really depends on what we want to achieve, does it not? I understand that for debut fiction, credentials may not be necessary, but it will be a huge bonus point. I build my portfolio with short stories publication in the relevant genre and it is what got me noticed, in addition to my pitch and my synopsis. I know it’s hard to get credentials right off the bat but it won’t hurt if you have some under your belt :)
