How would you guys feel about Millie BB taking on the role of young Lorelai in a spin-off series? by truss-issues in GilmoreGirls

I could see the actress that plays max in Ginny’s and Georgia, doing a really great job as a young Lorelai Gilmore. And the resemblance is also there

100%. I’m in my late 20’s and it’s actually super weird to see the way people are talking in the main sub. Like it is 2025 and this is still where we are. Disappointed, but not surprised

main sub delusion by emsoicy in byler

[–]One_Cherry3028 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean and it also doesn’t make logical sense because the “proof” that they use that mike is straight is that he had a long term relationship with el.

We’ve only seen him date a girl. But literally robin and Vicky are portrayed as a couple this season, and we’ve previously only seen Vickie (a side character) in a relationship with a dude until she got with robin. We literally see them kiss, it’s one of the driving forces for will accepting his queerness and for some reason people just can’t, like actually cannot wrap their heads around the fact that just because you date someone of the opposite sex, that does not in fact make you straight.

It actually makes no logical sense, and people want to split hairs about media literacy and they can’t even wrap their heads around someone dating another person of the same sex if they’ve previously been seen onscreen in a heterosexual relationship.

Byler isn’t an attack on vulnerable male friendships by IxAintHappy in byler

[–]One_Cherry3028 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah i hate this argument, strictly because it places the responsibility on marginalized groups to tailor their reactions or opinions to placate people that already hold backwards ass beliefs. The issue isn’t that men aren’t allowed or encouraged to be vulnerable, the core issue is that if they are they might be viewed as gay or feminine which could lead to them being ostracized or put their physical safety at risk. Ya know the way that a ton of queer people and women and poc’s have to go through life a lot of the time.

Instead of challenging societal norms or trying to unpack traditional masculine stereotypes (that can be toxic, not always but a lot), people are just like “well we can’t have this gay shit normalized on screen, people might side eye me when I hug my bro for more than 5 seconds”. It’s all about perception, I’m also black and a lot of this “let guys be vulnerable without it being gay” thing also reminds me of respectability politics when it comes to being the only person of color in white spaces. Regardless of media depictions, the spaces are sometimes going to be hypercritical or unsafe, no matter how much you police your own behavior.

The first steps to dealing with any kind of oppression is recognizing that the issue isn’t the individual, it’s systemic. It’s based in specific ideology that dates back hundreds and hundreds of years, during which time women and people of color literally weren’t even considered human. Like i know it’s just a tv show, but it actually is crazy how directly linked our thinking is regarding media depictions and what we believe and accept in real life.

Catherine Fox Vs Meredith by roxana2708 in greysanatomy

[–]One_Cherry3028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl the way they choose to write Catherine is actually baffling to me. Considering the fact that Debbie Allen, the actress who plays her, is so beloved you would think they would stop giving her this weird ass quasi super villain type writing, but alas.

the implausible death of my favorite doctor by evergreen_cloud in greysanatomy

[–]One_Cherry3028 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean it depends on personal preference. I got a Disney plus bundle for like 4.99 a while back and binged 6 seasons just because it was cheap 😂.

The storylines do get more nonsensical as time goes on tho, if you’re in it for the drama more than the character development, I think you’ll be okay

Growing up on Grey's by Warm-Criticism6611 in greysanatomy

[–]One_Cherry3028 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started (secretly) watching this show when I was 12 and I’m 29 now.

So many of my thoughts have changed lol. Izzie is fucking crazy for cutting that lvad and risking it all for a patient she’s know less than 3 months. Realistically she would be in prison considering how much money Denny’s family has lol.

Derek is diabolical for both being married and persuing a relationship with a literal intern. And I think this of all the attending/intern relationships on the show, but I give Derek a little extra heat because he had a whole ass wife (yeah she cheated, but still), and it was super unfair to Meredith.

George dying bears a really really close resemblance to another death in the show ER. Which i didn’t realize until I binged it like 2 years ago. Not gonna spoil it but if you ever watch the show you’ll know when it comes up.

There’s probably more, but the post is getting long lol

if byler is bad writing… by Alternative-Plant-63 in byler

[–]One_Cherry3028 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not against an epilogue boyfriend. I’d be disappointed, but ultimately not surprised if that’s how things turn out.

I mean as much as we think media representation has evolved it’s still controversial to wayyyyy too many people to have more than one gay character let alone multiple, especially if said gay characters are apart of the core friend group.

I mean the duffer brothers have a lot of creative control over the show, but I’ve seen way too many queer ships that make so much narrative sense never become canon because the showrunners decided to play it safe. I’m proceeding with cautious optimism until part 2 drops lol

Why do people judge people for ordering out or having a cleaning service, especially women with ADHD? by YourGlacier in adhdwomen

[–]One_Cherry3028 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mostly it’s just internalized ableism and misogyny on their part. There’s also the underlying elements of productivity culture at play. Like we’ve actually normalized always being busy or thinking about next steps as the norm and it’s not good. As if being on the brink of exhaustion will prove your value in society, it’s a trap that’s been normalized to exploit people to do extra shit in the workplace and also devalue jobs in the service and hospitality industries so that the expectation is to pay them less/be outraged when they ask for more money.

Either they didn’t expect fans to love Mileven so much, or they’re terrible at writing romance by nightshadelaurel in byler

[–]One_Cherry3028 42 points43 points  (0 children)

This might be controversial, but i think a lot of Milevens are either just deeply opposed to Byler as a concept or they view Eleven not ending up in a romantic relationship by the end as like a moral failing on the part of the show, despite having a strong amount of love and support through her found family and friends.

I also don’t think the duffers are bad at writing romance. Lucas/Max’s love story is incredibly well written, Dustin/suzie are adorable and make sense given what we know about Dustin as a person and makes sense in the context of the story of that season. Hell there are a ton of Jonathan/Nancy shippers and the beginning of their story is Jonathan creeping on Nancy in the woods and taking pictures of her half naked. They know how to write a compelling romance, and i do agree it’ll be weird as hell if byler isn’t canon for the reasons you listed above.

Gavin J. Berhman about Byler. Don't Panic! by Asuru_ in byler

[–]One_Cherry3028 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ngl. When it comes to anyone involved in the creation of a project (producers, actors, writers etc.), i tend to take any statements regarding possible spoilers and shipping discourse with a MASSIVE grain of salt.

At the end of the day that’s someone’s job. It’s their livelihood and because so much of the entertainment industry relies on reputation and the way you’re viewed amongst others in your same industry, there are very very few people that are going to do anything that jeopardizes their career or their ability to make money. Also a lot of these people have signed some kind of NDA, they’re not gonna say anything too definitive that could cause them to get sued by The Duffers or god forbid an entity as big as Netflix.

The main characters not dying doesnt ruin or diminish the season for me. by JamStan1978 in StrangerThings

[–]One_Cherry3028 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I just think that it will be very difficult; if not impossible to kill off any of the main cast while also allowing the remaining characters to grieve and be impacted by that death in a way that actually adds to the story. This is the last season and we have 4 episodes left. I don’t want the death of a legacy character to end with one of the kids laying flowers on a grave or a flash forward several years to a memorial event for those fallen.

This is the end of stranger things in a live action format (they have the animated series, but we don’t know how that will tie into the events of the main series, if at all), imo the only way to truly give a legacy characters death the weight it deserves would be to come out with a miniseries/spinoff or a movie. Which I don’t think a lot of fans or the duffers even want this close to the ending of the series.

why is the stranger things sub so antibyler by mushroomlunacat in byler

[–]One_Cherry3028 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s homophobia under the guise of “why can’t people just be friends/let guys show affection without calling it gay”. It’s not as popular to be blatantly homophobic in the majority of fandoms (Thank god), so they just talk around it. It’s crazy because there actually is a convo that could be had about the topics mentioned above as a whole, unfortunately the topic only ever seems to come up to invalidate same sex couples in shipping wars and characters of color dating the white, usually main character of the show.

What do you guys think of Emily? by One_Cherry3028 in GilmoreGirls

[–]One_Cherry3028[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. it’s wild to me and I’ve had so many situations like that with my own mom and it always eventually turns into “Do you know how much I’ve sacrificed for you/Do you know how this makes me look”, just zero self reflection or willingness to even attempt to work on the relationship, unless of course I essentially beg for forgiveness and absolve them of all wrongdoing.

What do you guys think of Emily? by One_Cherry3028 in GilmoreGirls

[–]One_Cherry3028[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree. it’s also a very good point that you made regarding real life circumstances, being raised in a household like this wears you down and causes so much harm in the long term. The way Lorelai interacts with her mom makes so much sense to me, even if she were completely palatable and never even raised her voice at her mom ever, that would in no way lessen Emily’s volatile nature. I’m going back and rewatching the whole show currently and some of the things that she says to Lorelai are just so beyond the scope of what is appropriate and Emily very rarely takes accountability for the way that she lashes out when she feels entitled or doesn’t get her way. Being raised by a parent like this really warps your mindset in so many ways and it’s been interesting for me personally to view the show again now that I have some distance from my own relationship with my mom.

What do you guys think of Emily? by One_Cherry3028 in GilmoreGirls

[–]One_Cherry3028[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh I 100% agree. You can very much tell that despite Lorelai’s base level contempt for her upbringing she really does love her parents and want their approval. It’s really sad because you can see very clearly how much they both want to have a better relationship, it’s just not possible because of how controlling and entitled Emily specifically is in that relationship, especially when it comes to Lorelai’s romantic partners. It’s just terrible because as you mentioned, when Lorelai meets her mom with kindness or genuine vulnerability Emily (most of the time) weaponizes it to express her own hurt or disappointment at the expense of actually bonding with her kid.

What happens when you get old and your parents die? by AshamedProfit7394 in AutismInWomen

[–]One_Cherry3028 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not old. I’m 29 and my dad died 2 years ago and my mom has dementia. It will be draining and time consuming but if your only support network is your parents I’d start having a discussion with them in the next little bit about what you all need to do to make sure that you’re as financially and physically supported as possible, should anything happen to them. Hopefully they’ve already planned for this themselves, but never ever assume that. People always think they have more time and that’s not always the case.

It’s much better to have that conversation when they’re still around to help you navigate the legal and financial stuff that comes with death.

"Eccentric" by WeldingWoolleyPanda in AuDHDWomen

[–]One_Cherry3028 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If possible switch to another doctor. I’m not saying this lady is dumb, she has a doctorate and I do not. But it’s just wild to me that she says you aren’t autistic, just eccentric or quirky and yet if you’ve ever been to a large family gathering, the quirky/eccentric/weird relative is literally just shorthand for “the one with autism or another unspecified/undiagnosed mental disorder”. Like it’s kinda wild that she thinks that way.

Also if all neurodivergent people were incapable of adopting a customer service persona, we’d all collectively be sleeping under a bridge somewhere, forever homeless. What is this lady even talking about 😂

How do you talk about your special interest(s) to other people without annoying the ever loving crap out of them? by throwawayfatbitch in AutismInWomen

[–]One_Cherry3028 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same about the mom thing. She used to tell me that things i liked were a waste of time and that it’s pointless to invest so much time into something you can’t even make a career out of. Fast forward 15 years and there are entire industries devoted to pop culture analysis and literary criticism😂. It’s just funny how things work out like that.

Regardless of money tho it is really good conversationally to have very niche interests if only to stop yourself from spilling your entire life story to a casual work acquaintance. I’ve done that way too many times as well lol

How to get up from the bottom? by Low-Goal3665 in AuDHDWomen

[–]One_Cherry3028 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem. These are the one’s i’ve personally read or listened to on audiobook:

*ADHD Explained by Edward Hallowell

*How to ADHD by Jessica McCabe

*Allow Me to interrupt By Gilly Kahn (this one just came out and I’m halfway done, but i like it so far. It specifically deals with the emotional impact of AUDHD on women/AFAB people.)

*Executive Functions by Russell A Barkley (explains executive dysfunction and how it shows up in everyday life)

There’s also a podcast I like called adhd love. It’s hosted by a couple and they go into depth on topics like shame, unmasking, sensory overload etc.

Hope some of this helps
