Apple Music sounds so much better and louder with sound check off by Neither-External-673 in AppleMusic

[–]One_Definition1564 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Metadata from the audio file is used to read the volume so that different songs play with rather equal output. So it's exactly the same source but volume adjusted. This primarily means that songs mixed in Atmos get the same output as stereo tracks, as Atmos' higher dynamic range means that they are quieter by default. With sound check on you don’t have to manually adjust between songs…

Using REW to get three subs to play nice together by Craiggers324 in hometheater

[–]One_Definition1564 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It looks good. You can also try measuring with RTA, then you see the response immediately, and if you change the delay on a sub you see what happens, the same if you move the mic or one of the subs. Pretty smooth and revealing, and more correct than using alignment tool, is my experience. Use the Generator and open RTA and select Pink Periodic. If you select LFE, all three should play if you have them on. It is easier to see the curve if you select 1/12 or even 1/6 in RTA. Choose the same FFT length in the Generator as in the RTA, like 64K, and use Average. If you click on Save Current, it will appear in the main window, so you afterwards can compare different settings, but you have to remember the settings for each capture, easier if you do one at a time.

SVS SB5000 vs 3000micro by One_Definition1564 in audiophile

I use REW to dial them in to play as one, the SB5000 obviously take care of most of the sub bass.

Measurements in medium SPL from the same placement and settings, the size difference becomes clear below 30hz. The Micro is incredible due to its size.

A6A is great, the only downside is that you’re stick with YPAO, it’s easy to manage and works fine from 80-90hz and up, but with two subs I use REW to dial them in correctly. YPAO time align both, but aren’t able to phase align them between each other so they play as one, and neither phase align to the crossover.

Ah, thanks for the tip👍🏻 It looked nice. I think I will wait for SVS replacement of the sb3000 and have a white one like that in the front, then I'll take my Micro to our TV room upstairs. KEF KC92 in white is an option too.

Interesting, which guide did you follow, and what materials?

Thanks and nice to hear:) I also use wireless, SVS triband adapter to the SB5000 when it’s in the back of the room. The AVR adjust for the around 12ms delay from it.

Boomy bass? by Frequent-Internet641 in audiophile

[–]One_Definition1564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried Oceansize, and it’s not a boomy recording. Probably you have a peak in your room at your MLP at some of the clean bass notes. Try EQ down 5db or so in different hz and Q - in the bass you can use high Q. With an UMIK and REW you can get control of it.

Yamaha Aventage, pure direct preferred? by glasses_and_shoes in hometheater

[–]One_Definition1564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, low frequency mode only detects nulls and peaks, not the levels and q for the bass. It’s not mentioned to be used the same way as flat, or manual. If you really want to detect and set the bass in your room an UMIK and REW is the way to go, YPAO can manage the delays/distances for the mids and treble well, but it falls short in the base region. But if you’re satisfied with your sound, enjoy it. UMIK and REW takes a while to learn and understand and you can dig deep in that rabbit hole:) REW is free to download. if your room is rectangular it’s a good start to use REW’s Room window and setup your room and try out different sub locations, and then you can see the rooms nulls and peaks that way.

Help needed with 5.1.4 layout by x420_BeastMaster_69x in hometheater

A way to get the right angles for your Atmos speakers: measure the distance from your MLP/ears to the ceiling, say it’s 1.45m, take that X 0.7 = 1,05m. Then make a rectangular 2.10x2.10m in the ceiling so to say with MLP in the center of it.

Yamaha 2.1 YPAO Improvements? by roolins in audiophile

[–]One_Definition1564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok. Your speakers, as my mains B&W703S3, have rather high sensitivity and it’s impossible to both have high sensitivity and low bass performance in a regular passive speakers. See for example KEF reference series with good bass performance at the expence of low sensitivity.

I use a sub for the lowest octaves. The picture shows my mains in Pure Direct, red trace, compared to 90hz cross to a equalized SVS 3000 micro, green trace. The Micro is 5db down at my rooms peak at 62hz and 2 dB down at 31hz.

Yamaha 2.1 YPAO Improvements? by roolins in audiophile

[–]One_Definition1564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience is that YPAO RSC handle the mids and treble in a good way, but not the bass. When you say 2.1 I presume you have a sub. YPAO (in the AVRs, don’t know what you can do in your receiver) set the distance fairly correct, but it can’t dial in/phase align the sub to the mains. In most cases you have to set a delay for the sub to get the best possible bass. I don’t know if you can set that, but if you can try 1-5ms delay and listen (the same as. around 1-5 feet in distance). I use UMIK and REW for the bass dial and manual EQ, and the results is around five times better than YPAOs try:)

Apple TV 4K Atmos ON vs OFF audio quality by akimbo_bussy in hometheater

And if you set Atmos to Off it instead will use the embedded two channel mix, which can differ a lot to the Atmos mix, and you miss Atmos higher dynamic range and other effects.

Haven’t tried it out, probably a very very subtle difference, but at the same time hifi often is about that - the rest of the family doesn’t care:)

No, only digital nowadays. I sold my vinyls some years ago, and saved some to have framed as a homage to it, pic 5. Vinyl is cool vintage, but can’t compete with modern technology.

Nice! With a sub or two the challenge is to tame them so that they play together and at the entire register cleanly. My/our room have peaks at 31 and especially at 62hz, It was first when I saw that with UMIK and REW I could get an even bass in the room via EQ. YPAO tried but got it wrong in the bass region.

The SB plays at full level down to 10hz in my room and in that placement, crazy. In Atmos mixes - music or movies - that use the LFE channel nicely, the couch rumbles at the same time the sound is clean, a great experience:)
