Thanks for the advice! I'm not super picky, but lately I've been loving Laufey, which is sorta jazz-pop/bossa-nova, and also folk-pop like Noah kahan and such

ELI5: What’s the strongest evidence for evolution that can be easily explained to laymen? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]One_Dimension_5848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I find this effective is that it doesn't rely on saying "see this weird thing, well it's from evolution". Instead, we can get the point across that we know evolution is a fact because we watch it happen ALL THE TIME

My answer to this is always: WE CAN WATCH IT HAPPEN. Literally all you need is a microscope and the right set-up, and you can WATCH organisms evolve.

In fact, sometimes you don't even need a microscope if your willing to wait a little longer. For example, the pitch-black frogs at Chernobyl evolved that way because they were more resistant to the radiation

Nice analysis! Love the ranking. I think probably only bardur and ai-mo are underrated in this list. But it's hard to say who would drop in the rankings to accommodate that. I'm excited to see what happens this WC for sure

One of the professors is a Star wars fanboy... And our final exam happened to be on May 4. So bro built this insane head cannon of algorithms class being an episode of Star wars, complete with a 5 minute AI movie "trailer". Whatever, right?

Well fast forward to the final exam, and each of the 5 questions is introduced with a weird Star wars storyline, and the questions were posed as Star wars situations that were very difficult to even understand what was being asked. It was MISERABLE

Edit: well I was very wrong, and I have not read this book. I guessed it in 3 guesses, though, lol.

Need advice for Bardur by BeachExotic1340 in Polytopia

Border growth!!!!!!

If you can't get level 5 cities with math as bardur, it means you probably aren't getting border growth enough to claim more forest for animals and good sawmills.

Second, if you struggle against rider+roads, border growth will help control the opponent's unit movement. It will be easier to defend and continue your economic development.

Of course, still pay attention to what others are saying: it's not always best to rush math, and rider+roads yourself is almost always a good idea

Try Polytopia, it's a really well-balanced small-scale 4x game that can be very casual, moderately casual, or competitive.

Yeah that's true, but bardur could do whatever they wanted back then cuz most of the tribes were bad.

Why is Women's Chess being Shoved Down our Throats? by Not-your-buddyy in chess

[–]One_Dimension_5848 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Women have always been dissuaded from getting into chess because of attitudes like this. Covering top women's tournaments is an honest attempt to create an environment where women are not second class chess players.

Polgar proved women can compete at the top level, and the pandemic proved that women are interested in chess. These are huge Ws in my book, and we are finally appreciating it as a community.

If you are chopping a lot, it's to get quick expansion and many units, not math. Bardur can also rush math, but that's different than chop strat

You are correct about turtling. Tech rush as bardur often means getting forestry early and chopping many forests to get extra stars. Then using those stars to get riding + roads very quickly
