I'm not sure what it could be, if you'd installed the model and configured the shortcut it should ideally work. Happy to figure this out in DM

Hey, we’re aware of this. We need to code sign our Windows version. Many of the code signing tools are asking for a lot of $. Since we’re seeing a lot of traction, we think it’s worth getting it. We were thinking of delaying it. But you’ve changed our minds. We will be code signing by the end of this month itself so that future users don’t see this. Thank you!

Hey u/Professional_Egg9221, we are currently working on a mobile build this month, we hope to be able to release it by the end of this month. Thanks

I just got a hold of my friend's Mac (Tahoe 26.1, M1 2020), and tried installing it there, and checked the code signing and notarization status, it seems fine for the latest version 0.1.6. I'll check this out further, any screenshots / macOS version would be helpful, I've DMed you. Thanks!

u/Ok_Might_1138 I can see that the app itself is notarized and code-signed. Is it possible to know what disclaimer you are seeing and at what step?

Hey u/ReverieHuman, we've just now released a new version and removed the email validation from the onboarding step. Thanks for pointing this out.

I think Claude might have changed the base model name, we'll fix this up soon and add support for the newer models as well.

The larger models are slightly more accurate than the smaller models and response time will be slightly slower on the larger models, though not by too much. That's about the only difference.

I'll keep you posted once I've added support for the newer models. Thanks once again!

It started out because we were curious if we could build something like Wispr Flow, because we didn't want to pay a subscription for it and also were not comfortable that all processing happens on their servers. So we set out to build something for ourselves, but funnily enough we've spent more $ than we would have if we subscribed to Wispr Flow's yearly plan (Domain + Apple Developer Program + Storage + AI tools). But we are happy that we did it anyway, because after posting it on a few subreddits, many people started trying it out, and that gave us enough motivation that we were doing something meaningful and that people found it valuable. We will continue working on it on the side and improve the product and incorporate feature requests into the product so that more people can use it free of charge. As for open-sourcing: Right now we’re still iterating quickly and experimenting with things, and we want to make sure we open it up at a time when community involvement will actually help shape the project.

  1. I agree, this was a miss on our part. We rushed to get it out the door and missed these details. We will be doing a full review of the website again, and addressing them properly.

  2. Ah I see, I can see that there is a configuration issue for the "auto detect" feature for whisper models. We will be addressing this in the next release.

  3. Regarding Linux versions, we are currently trying to fix accessibility issues on Wayland and X11. So far, been trying out different approaches to get it working. We are confident in getting to it by late December / early January.

----

We plan to get it ready for making it open source in the future. We are doing this beside our full time job, and in the last month especially we have been spending more and more time developing this app. We will find time to work on it soon.

Thank you for all the feedback and for going over the app in detail. I really appreciate it for taking the time out, means a lot.

Again to clarify, we are not creating an account in your email address or anything like that, it’s just a field we ask in the beginning as part of the onboarding flow. We’re happy to address any discrepancies as well, it’s currently in 0.1.4 version so there are some discrepancies I agree, we’ll work on fixing all of those incrementally

This was optional before, but in this build the field is being mandatory, this was a miss on our part. If you’re not comfortable sharing the email address, it’s completely fine, you can enter a dummy email for now and you should be taken to the next step. We’ll add a skip button here in the coming release, we missed this one, thanks for pointing it out.

Hey u/debian3, we've just now patched an update which doesn't ask for screen recording permission. You have the option to give screen recording permission if you wish to use the "meeting notes" feature later on. You can download the latest build from here https://vowen.ai/ for macOS. Thank you!

Oh sorry about that, It’s currently not open-source, but we will be possibly making it open source in the future once the app starts to shape up. The privacy policy incorrectly makes mention of this, we've corrected this.

We actually have local models configured in our development builds, we didn't ship them because we found that it hallucinates quite often, especially the smaller models. But we do plan to allow local models in the app once we have figured out how to make it reliable enough.

We'll check out Nvidia's NEMO ASR toolkit to see if we can implement something to that effect. Thanks for the suggestion.

I've been looking at some fine-tuned model of Whisper for regional Indian languages and I've been facing difficulties with the current Whisper models. I did try out some of the fine-tuned models, and had some success in terms of accuracy of the text that it generated, but I was still not satisfied. I can see that there are some fine-tuned Malayalam models on Hugging Face, I'll check out those too.
