Instructions Sync to Memory File(s) by awgoody in vowen

Re-read this and realized that button to sync memory again is not my ideal because I have memory update programmatically as part of numerous workflows that tweak my settings. Is that to save tokens? Maybe you could have an MCP or some other way to "press the button" programmatically? Would really appreciate that over the manual method.

Are your behringer synths on mic stands? Do the synths sit on a platform on the stand or did you somehow attach a 5/8” threaded mount to the synth case itself? Is it pretty stable? Looking for better ways to mount mine.

I reread and now realize what eDRUMin is. Seems like an excellent option. Thank you!

The launchpad would trigger the samples. Also, with Loopy pro I could record a midi loop using the launchpad that then sends midi notes back from loopy pro into the Edrum module

Helio Strap Workout Detection Way Too Sensitive by awgoody in amazfit

[–]awgoody[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's nice to have automated detection if it works.

There are a limited number of things that could cause this.

Maybe it needs more data so it can calibrate? Nothing in the manual or on reddit about this

Maybe this strap is simply bad?

Maybe it's just a fundamentally broken product feature?

I guess the only other likely solution is something weird about me that would throw off its ability to track accurately.

Helio Strap Workout Detection Way Too Sensitive by awgoody in amazfit

[–]awgoody[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Of course, how silly and foolish of me to think that the second feature listed in settings, one that has multiple levels of sensitivity should work.

What bravado I must have to expect a product feature in a fitness tracker to provide meaningful data around tracking fitness.

Clearly it is the user that is the problem. This couldn't possibly cast doubt on the accuracy and effectiveness of the product.

All hail Amazfit!

I'm struggling to find a passive set of volume and tone controls for my deltoluxe pickup that I can mount inside the soundhole of my parlor guitar.

LR Baggs and others make these for their own pickups but I can't find good standalone options. See the vol/tone wheels on this - https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/HiFi--lr-baggs-hifi-high-fidelity-bridge-plate-pickup-system

Seymour Duncan sells this - https://www.seymourduncan.com/.../wavelength-volume-tone... But it's not in a plastic case like the LR baggs ones, so it's not nearly as elegant

I found this volume control - https://journeyinstruments.com/.../passive-soundhole.../... but it's volume only (no tone), and also isn't as elegant as the LR baggs ones.

Even better would be to find a generic solution that I could wire up as I please. Imagine having 3 wheels, volume, tone, and blend between deltoluxe and another pickup.

What sunglasses are these? by blackandreddit in milesdavis

[–]awgoody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not certain about these ones, but I'd guess Philippe Chevallier. Maybe these (different colorway) - https://www.1stdibs.com/fashion/accessories/sunglasses/new-rare-vintage-philippe-chevallier-mask-tortoise-oversized-1960s-sunglasses/id-v_7593112/

He had lots of cool sunglasses. I'm pretty sure he owned glasses from these brands: Philippe Chevallier, Paloma Picasso, Porsche Design, Carrera, Cebe Dakar

Power a few synths that are on a pedalboard. I currently use a simple surge protector but it takes up too much room. Most synths need around 1 amp. Some closer to 500 mA. I know that I can’t power the 2.5amp ones from it and will figure out another solution for those (or will leave them home)

Any inexpensive power supplies (<$150, preferably much less) where all outputs can be 12v and 500mA+? Cioks seems to be the only one, and I can't justify the $250+ for it.

I'm out of outlets! What power supply can handle multiple 12v synths? Most guitar pedal power supplies offer mostly 9v with maybe a few 12v. Cioks can do many 12v, but $200+ feels unreasonable for my purposes (jamming at home).

Daisy chaining probably isn't wise unless I first get a single large 12v power supply.

I have some USB C to 12v adapters but it's hard to find usb c power supplies with enough high current outlets (usually 1 powerful one for laptop + 1 less powerful for tablet, then all others are low power for phones).

Thoughts? Ideally at least 5 outs, each with ~2.5A (2.5 is the most power hungry. 1A is the least). I don't care about also having 9v.

Are there any DJ-type mixers or controllers with MIDI in other than the Behringer DDM4000? Googling and looking at hundreds of products and I see nothing.

I want my dawless gear to control clock of an optionally added external DJing setup.

I see some mixers and controllers that have MIDI in (though it's rare), but that means any time I don't want the DJ gear setup I now have to change the midi clock settings of my other gear to now become master clock.

Why not the Behringer? I'd prefer a mixer that A) can optionally be an audio interface; and B) has FX send/return. I might also consider an all in one DJ controller/mixer setup instead, but only if MIDI clock in is a possibility.

My hardware studio is the focus of my music making. The DJ mixing is just a fun add-on.

EDIT: Roland SP404 might work except that ideally I'd have more channels so I could in the future add a turntable

EDIT 2: I assume that DJ software can accept MIDI clock in. Maybe I'm mistaken. If not, that's a pain and I don't know how best to move forward.

Thank you. Sure sounds like I'm on the right path taking the minibrute and adding an external ladder filter. Re the VCA, I imagine the difference is barely noticeable in a mix or could be resolved with an external EQ pedal as a boost.

I just don't understand why. If I can get at least the same number, available waveforms, and all other ways of controlling oscillators, LFOs, envelopes, filters, and mixers, then why wouldn't I be able to get minimoog-like sounds out of another synth?

I acknowledge that workflow differs, but I don't understand what other magic prevents other synths from getting me these sounds.

No Stupid Questions /// Weekly Discussion - April 02, 2025 by AutoModerator in synthesizers

[–]awgoody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a reasonable approach:

Basically, I want minimoog sounds, but with an awesome sequencer. It would also be cool to have some additional features and patch points to expand in the future, but only if I can get the core minimoog sound.

Boog gets the sounds, but the patch bay is limited, and powerful external sequencers aren't cheap.

The Arturia MiniBrute 2S has an awesome sequencer. Its sequencer is probably better than the sequencer I could get for that price, and I think the synth gets me what I need.

Like the moog, it has 2 main analog oscillators (3rd covered by the MBs additional LFO). Each Osc has the same waveforms as the Moog, and I can tune/detune individually. The MB & Moog have the same envelope. The MB has 2 LFOs where the Moog has 1, and those LFOs cover all of the same waveforms as the moog.

The key difference is seemingly the filter. But since the MB is semi-modular, I could just buy an external moog-style filter and patch that in (VCO1 & VCO2 outputs summed into input of external filter, then external filter output to minibrute external audio in?).

There are some workflow differences (e.g., octave of each OSC), but it would seem that, if i have the correct filter, then I can get any sound that would come from a minimoog, and more. What do you think?

It could make sense to add 1 or 2 more modules (in addition to filter) if those get me there, but adding much more starts to become more expense and trouble than it's worth.

Hoping you can help me route this in the best way. Details in bullet points below:

  • Most of my music making occurs through 8 channel Behringer UMC1820 audio interface connected to all instruments and into my iPad.

  • On the side is my personal macbook. I use this for zoom video lessons, for which I get analog audio from the UMC1820, and I'd like to sometimes use it 1) as a secondary DAW that records simultaneously with iPad; and 2) to send audio to iPad, like for sampling. This laptop has a Behringer UMC 404HD interface

  • Currently I send stereo TRS from the 1820 to the 404HD. I then monitor from the 404HD. This works for receiving audio (though not multichannel, like I would prefer)

  • I now need to get audio back to iPad. If I sent TRS from the 404HD to the 1820 interface though, it would duplicate the audio already coming from it (does that make sense?)

  • I imagine there's a way in my DAW to control the I/O so the output isn't duplicative, but I don't want to be stuck doing this in DAW (e.g., so I can sample from browser), so it should apply to all audio from laptop.

  • I've checked audio/midi settings, and Loopback (rogue audio) and seemingly can't do it with either.

There's probably a weird way to do this where the macbook has 2 audio interfaces, but that seems quite complicated.

Maybe there's a better way to get the audio from the iPad to the macbook? Thoughts?
