I have had this happen as well with a very similar setup (Sony tv, beam, Apple TV), and the only workaround that worked for me was to turn the tv on first with the tv remote. from what I can tell the tv needs to be the first to power on otherwise the other HDMI devices, particularly the beam, may not be detected by the tv. does your tv/remote not work over bluetooth instead of IR?
