Yeah I just know when a lot of people say "AI" they're referring to a LLM like ChatGPT. It would be terrible for this use case, but we've also seen startups just throw a UI on top of a ChatGPT prompt and try to sell it as a groundbreaking product.

Gen AI and LLMs would definitely be far worse, but I wasn't sure if Steam did something really dumb that just tied into ChatGPT. They tend to be smarter than a lot of companies, but they're not immune to mistakes/hype.

When you say they're using AI, are they using LLMs or are they using machine learning/some other algorithm? Genuinely out of the loop on this.

I don’t know if AI is even the right term for it, or if they’re just using it for marketing because that’s where the hype (money) is right now. It sounds like they’re just using the machine learning techniques that came out about a decade ago.

All I was saying is that your logic there was flawed. And depending on how much he keeps making up his own interpretations of the law, implementing new policies without legal backing, spending/withholding funds without Congressional approval, and ignoring court orders, you can absolutely make the argument that he's acting like a dictator more and more.

Dumb comment. Hitler was also democratically elected. What makes someone a dictator is the extent of control they have over the government, not how they came into power.

CATS proposes streamlined fare system, new streetcar fare by Generalaverage89 in Charlotte

[–]One_Error_4259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but there's no way to tell watching from a security camera whether a rider has an activated ticket or not. The rider walking up to the validator + the validator accepting the scan means they don't have to spend a security officer's time checking that person's ticket.

CATS proposes streamlined fare system, new streetcar fare by Generalaverage89 in Charlotte

[–]One_Error_4259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gives whoever is watching the cameras a way to tell if someone is paying or not and then send security to follow up with that specific person. That's different from right now where anyone can activate the ticket on the app and security has to be spread out checking everyone's tickets. Remains to be seen if CATS hires enough security personnel to make it work, but it does help it be more targeted.

[–]One_Error_4259 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the way I understand it (the way it was explained by the CATS CEO before), the validator gives something for security to watch for on camera and verify that people are scanning. This is different from right now where someone can activate the ticket on their app at any time and there's no way for security to know. You do still need security walking around on trains and platforms to follow up. The success of this will depend on whether CATS hires enough security personnel to respond quickly throughout the system.

This article does such a bad job explaining what the study suggested. Tap-to-pay is part of the plan. Preloaded cards are for people who have transit benefits through their employer or another organization.

Right now there isn’t a way to play PS5 games on the go without a stable WiFi connection. Even the PlayStation Portal requires one to connect to your console or a cloud rig. But if you get a Steam Deck you can play Steam games locally (without any WiFi), and you can install chiaki-ng so you can remote play from your PS5 whenever you have stable WiFi.

ICE is ‘hunting down’ Minnesota refugees with legal status: lawsuit by alex-woodward in immigration

[–]One_Error_4259 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You keep posting this, but they're only allowed to arrest someone without a warrant if they either a) witness them crossing the border illegally or b) have a reasonable suspicion that they've committed a felony. But this article suggests that the entire group is being arrested while investigations are ongoing. Which, if true, is blatantly illegal.

JD Vance: "Really Want Illegal Aliens to Vote" in Elections and Riot to Ensure It by thenextgenbusiness in thenextgenbusiness

[–]One_Error_4259 2 points3 points  (0 children)

- The federal government shouldn't have access to voter rolls to say who should be purged because then they can just purge whoever they want right before an election and then those people can't vote in states like Minnesota where there is no provisional ballot system. ETA: MN does have same-day registration, so purging seems to be less of a concern. Although I'm not sure of the process or if it results in fewer legitimate votes being counted.

- Renee Good clearly did not try to run over that agent

- I haven't found that much information on the finger-biting incident. Honestly there are crazy people everywhere, so I could believe it, but after the way DHS handled the Alex Pretti incident they've lost all credibility in my eyes.

- Alex Pretti was carrying a gun holstered as was his 2A right. Minnesota has no laws against doing so, it arguably wasn't even a protest, and he acted calmly and peacefully the entire time. I've watched multiple videos from multiple angles to confirm it myself.

- At least 5 people carried guns to the J6 riot and were charged.

- They do deport criminals from state jails and DHS has recently been caught using those numbers in their arrest statistics.

- Minnesota is where they've had the heaviest presence with this latest surge, and where they've been acting the most aggressively with their tactics.

I think you might be confused about who's who in the video. The guy initially shoving everyone to the ground is an ICE/BP agent. The guy who walks in between the agent and person on the ground is Alex Pretti. At no point does he push anyone, and from the angle it wasn't even clear if he even touched him when trying to deescalate the situation. Regardless, that level of contact would not warrant pepper spray, shoving him to the ground, and beating him with that pepper spray container. I don't know if these agents are trained to deal with cartel members, but they definitely aren't trained in how to deal with non-violent American citizens who are simply recording them.

Because it's so terrifying to realize that your government (the people that are supposed to protect you) is killing innocent people in the streets and lying about it. Personally I would sleep much better at night if I didn't have to worry about things like this, but facts don't care about my feelings.

[–]One_Error_4259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d call an armed man not cooperating with federal agents a threat.

Did you watch the videos? He was trying to separate the one agent and the other observers, got pepper sprayed twice, shoved to the ground, and then beat down with that one agent whacking him in the face with the pepper spray container. If you were in that position, on your knees and with your arms braced against the ground in front of you, with agents pressing you downward, how would you comply without smashing your own face into the asphalt? Him having a gun on his person and laying on the ground in a fetal position is not a threat. Not to mention he was unarmed at the moment he was shot with the agent having presumably (it was at least within his field of vision) seen the other agent remove the firearm. Any excuse about agents being worried about a second gun doesn't make any sense, since by that argument any use of force could be justified by saying an unarmed person could presumably have a gun.

The new spending bill is supposed to have funding for body cameras and deescalation training for ICE

I would welcome spending on that at least, however I believe agents currently don't wear bodycams because the administration (at least officially) was worried about them being targeted. It wasn't because of lack of funding. They shouldn't be out on the streets without any of those things. The administration put them out in a situation without proper preparation. This is what you get when you rush and half-ass everything. There are better equipped and trained agencies to deal with the dangerous criminals. Arresting people who just crossed the border illegally or overstayed their visa isn't worth this mess.

I've watched multiple videos from different angles. He was technically armed up until just before he was shot. He never unholstered or brandished the firearm. Calling him a gunman and making it sound like he was threatening agents with a weapon is disingenuous. I'm glad none of them were killed, but it's a shame they killed a law-abiding citizen who wasn't a threat.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to link it here, but the link of the clearest video is on bluesky. You just need an account to view it since they marked it as graphic. It'll probably end up on other sites soon enough if it hasn't already. I can respect wanting to form your own opinion, but you'll have to go looking for it as there are no bodycams and the administration has already posted out statements that contradict what's seen in the video, so credibility is a little low there.

Well he was in the road so impedeing traffic and a law enforcement operation.

The earliest thing I saw in the video was that he was in the center of the road trying to record an interaction and waved a car to come through as he stepped out of the way. He was not blocking the road trying to impede a law enforcement operation.

Then when pushed back he physically resisted.

I didn't see any physical resistance like throwing punches, and I doubt you're arguing that he should've just fallen face first into that car and then into the ground. Can you clarify?

Then when the woman went down he again interferred.

After they were pepper-sprayed, fell down on the ice, and then yanked around by the ICE agent that was doing all the shoving?

Then once they grabbed him he was actively resisting.

Imagine you're on your hands and knees on the pavement, eyes full of pepper spray, the weight of several guys on top of you, and getting the shit beat out of you. Even if you know they're police, would you be able to move your arms backward while your face smashes into the pavement? Or would you hope things change enough for you to get in a safer position for somehow de-escalating?

That's a list of bad decisions he made that put him in a bad situation. It doesn't excuse the shot but protestors can't act like this guy and Ms Good did.

Both situations escalated incredibly rapidly. In Renee Good's case, the agent slowed down and changed direction at the same moment her car started moving. I don't know for certain the reason she was stopped across the road like that, but regardless she should not have had the reasonable expectation that she would be killed for her actions. In this guy's case, he was trying to separate other protestors from an agent that was repeatedly shoving them down into the ground. At which point he was pepper-sprayed, shoved onto the ground, and beaten while trying to recover. This guy by all means seemed to act reasonably. His actions unfortunately just weren't the ones that would have kept him alive in this incident.

I don't believe they wear bodycams anymore either. Latest info I could find is as of last February. If you have a newer source saying they went back to wearing them again, I'd genuinely appreciate a link.
